On June 4, Pornhub and its sister sites Redtube and YouPorn got blocked for users in France. Instead of the normal site, French users were shown a message protesting new French rules about age checks to stop minors from watching porn, as per reports. These rules were supposed to be followed by June 7, and France asked all adult sites to start age verification before that. Just 30 minutes after the block, ProtonVPN said their signups shot up by 1,000%. They said this was an even bigger spike than when the US tried to ban TikTok earlier, according to the report by POLITICO.France was actually Pornhub's second-biggest audience in 2024, after the US. Another VPN company, NordVPN, said their usage went up by 170% in France since the ban. The NordVPN rep added that these jumps usually happen when people feel their online freedom is being blocked, as mentioned in the reports.A site that tracks VPN trends, Top10VPN, said that on June 4, overall VPN demand rose by 334% compared to the average of the last 28 days. The company behind Pornhub, Aylo, said it's not totally against age verification, but they don't support France's way of doing it, according to the reports.Aylo believes France's method won't really stop minors and also puts user privacy at risk. Instead, Aylo wants any age checks to happen on the user's device, not through external methods, as stated by POLITICO.Pornhub blocked itself in protest of France's strict age verification rules for adult sites.People used VPNs like ProtonVPN to bypass the Pornhub block after the site went offline.

Israeli Navy intercepts yacht carrying Greta Thunberg, other activists, on way to Gaza

Tel Aviv, June 9 (UNI) Israeli authorities said they have intercepted at sea the Madleen, a boat that had on board 12 international activists including Swedish campaigner Greta Thunberg, and was headed for the war-torn Gaza Strip carrying humanitarian aid. The other activists on board the yacht included Brazilian activist Thiago Avila, and French-Palestinian European Parliament Member Rima Hassan. All parties on board will be handed over to police for deportation upon arrival at Ashdod Port, The Times of Israel reported. The Israeli Foreign Ministry, justifying its actions, said on X that the navy had "instructed the boat to change its course due to its approach toward a restricted area." After defying the given instructions, the vessel was intercepted 3am (local time) by the Navy's Shayetet 13 commando unit and the Snapir harbour border security unit. It released video footage showing the activists being taken to Israel, and said they were unharmed. The international Freedom Flotilla Coalition, upon being boarded, said on its Telegram channel that Israeli forces boarded the aid vessel. It accused Israel of violating international law by preventing the delivery of aid, and accused the IDF of 'kidnapping' them. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz released a statement, saying he instructed the military to show the activists a video, widely known in Israel as "the gruesome video", which compiles graphic scenes from the Hamas-led deadly attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023. Katz praised the military for the "swift and safe takeover of the Madleen flotilla to prevent them from breaching the blockade and reaching the shores of Gaza." Calling the vessel a 'selfie yacht', the Ministry said "While Greta and others attempted to stage a media provocation whose sole purpose was to gain publicity - and which included less than a single truckload of aid - more than 1,200 aid trucks have entered Gaza from Israel within the past two weeks. "There are ways to deliver aid to the Gaza Strip - they do not involve Instagram selfies." Israel has imposed a strict blockade on the Gaza Strip since 2007, when the Islamic terror group Hamas took control of the territory. The blockade was significantly tightened after Hamas' October 2023 attack and has become even stronger now, with the blockade aimed specifically to prevent any possible Iranian vessels from entering the area. Gaza-bound aid boat Madleen spotted off southern Israel

Israeli forces seized a Gaza-bound aid boat and detained Greta Thunberg and other activists who were on board early Monday (June 9, 2025), enforcing a longstanding blockade of the Palestinian territory that has been tightened during the Israel-Hamas war. The boat, accompanied by the Israeli navy, was spotted off southern Israel's coast on Monday (June 9, 2025) evening on its way to the Ashdod port, according to an Associated Press journalist at the scene. The activists were expected to be held at a detention facility in the Israeli city of Ramle before being deported, according to Adalah, a legal rights group representing the activists. The activists had set out to protest Israel's ongoing military campaign in the Gaza Strip, which is among the deadliest and most destructive since World War II, and its restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid, both of which have put the territory of around two million Palestinians at risk of famine. The Freedom Flotilla Coalition, which had organised the voyage, said that the activists were 'kidnapped by Israeli forces' while trying to deliver desperately needed aid to the territory. 'The ship was unlawfully boarded, its unarmed civilian crew abducted, and its life-saving cargo — including baby formula, food and medical supplies — confiscated,' it said in a statement. It said the ship was seized in international waters about 200 km from Gaza. Israel's Foreign Ministry portrayed the voyage as a public relations stunt, saying in an X post that 'the 'selfie yacht' of the 'celebrities' is safely making its way to the shores of Israel.' It said the activists would return to their home countries and the aid would be sent to Gaza through established channels. It circulated footage of what appeared to be Israeli military personnel handing out sandwiches and water to the activists, who were wearing orange life vests. Ms Thunberg, a climate campaigner, was among 12 activists aboard the Madleen, which set sail from Sicily a week ago. Along the way, it had stopped on Thursday (June 5, 2025) to rescue four migrants who had jumped overboard to avoid being detained by the Libyan coast guard. 'I urge all my friends, family and comrades to put pressure on the Swedish government to release me and the others as soon as possible,' Ms Thunberg said in a prerecorded message released after the ship was halted. Rima Hassan, a French member of the European Parliament, who is of Palestinian descent, was also among the volunteers on board. She has been barred from entering Israel because of her opposition to Israeli policies toward the Palestinians. She was among six French citizens aboard the boat. French President Emmanuel Macron asked Israel to allow them to return to France as soon as possible, his office said in a statement. Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard said in Stockholm that the crew and passengers of the Madleen were aware of the risks of the campaign, and that her Ministry has advised against travel to Gaza for a decade and people who disregard that advice have a clear personal responsibility, Swedish news agency TT reported. She said the Ministry's current assessment is that no one onboard is in danger and there is no need for consular support at present. Adalah, the rights group, said that Israel had 'no legal authority' to take over the ship, because it was in international waters and it was headed not to Israel but to the 'territorial waters of the state of Palestine.' 'The arrest of the unarmed activists, who operated in a civilian manner to provide humanitarian aid, amounts to a serious breach of international law,' Adalah said in a statement. Israeli officials said that the flotilla amounted to less than a truckload of aid. 'This wasn't humanitarian aid. It's Instagram activism,' Israeli government spokesperson David Mencer said. 'Meanwhile, Israel has delivered over 1,200 truckloads in the last two weeks. So who's really feeding Gaza and who's really feeding their own ego? Greta was not bringing aid, she was bringing herself. And she's not here for Gaza, let's be blunt about it. She's here for Greta.' After a two-and-a-half-month total blockade aimed at pressuring Hamas, Israel started allowing some basic aid into Gaza last month, but humanitarian workers and experts have warned of famine unless the blockade is lifted and Israel ends its military offensive. An attempt last month by Freedom Flotilla to reach Gaza by sea failed after another of the group's vessels was attacked by two drones while sailing in international waters off Malta, organisers said. The group blamed Israel for the attack, which damaged the front section of the ship. Israel and Egypt have imposed varying degrees of a blockade on Gaza since Hamas seized power from rival Palestinian forces in 2007. Israel says the blockade is needed to prevent Hamas from importing arms, while critics say it amounts to collective punishment of Gaza's Palestinian population. Israel sealed off Gaza from all aid in the early days of the war ignited by the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, but later relented under U.S. pressure. In early March, shortly before Israel ended a ceasefire with Hamas, the country again blocked all imports, including food, fuel and medicine. Hamas-led militants killed around 1,200 people, mostly civilians, in the October 7 attack and abducted 251 hostages, most of whom have since been released in ceasefire agreements or other deals. Hamas is still holding 55 hostages, more than half of them believed to be dead. Israel's military campaign has killed more than 54,000 Palestinians, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which doesn't distinguish between civilians and combatants, but has said that women and children make up most of the dead. The war has destroyed vast areas of Gaza and displaced around 90% of the territory's population, leaving people there almost completely dependent on international aid. Efforts to broker another truce have been deadlocked for months. Hamas says it will only release the remaining hostages in exchange for a lasting ceasefire and an Israeli withdrawal, while Israel has vowed to continue the war until all the captives are returned and Hamas is defeated, or disarmed and exiled.

Apple brings this Google's Android-like feature in iOS 26 – powered by Apple Intelligence

Apple has unveiled significant enhancements to the iPhone's core Phone application – powered by Apple Intelligence . The company has introduced a unified layout and innovative features designed to streamline communication and minimise unwanted interruptions for users. The update is similar to Android's call screening feature that Google announced three years ago. Apple launches Call Screening and Hold Assist According to Apple, these updates aim to make the fundamental iPhone experience more intuitive and efficient. Building on the existing Live Voicemail capability, a new feature called Call Screening will now allow users to handle incoming calls more easily. This 'intelligent' function will gather information from the caller in real-time, providing users with crucial details to help them decide whether to answer or disregard the call. This aims to significantly reduce interruptions from unwanted or unknown callers. Furthermore, for those often left waiting on hold, Apple is introducing Hold Assist. This feature will notify users when a live agent becomes available, eliminating the need to constantly monitor the call while on hold. Call Screening supports Cantonese (China mainland, Hong Kong, Macao), English (US, Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, South Africa, UK), French (Canada, France), German (Germany), Japanese (Japan), Korean (Korea), Mandarin Chinese (China mainland, Taiwan, Macao), Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish (US, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Spain). Hold Assist supports English (US, Australia, Canada, India, Singapore, UK), French (France), Spanish (US, Mexico, Spain), German (Germany), Portuguese (Brazil), Japanese (Japan), and Mandarin Chinese (mainland China). Phone App gets a complete revamp Apple has also revamped its Phone app. Central to the revamped Phone app is a consolidated interface that brings together Favorites, Recents, and Voicemails into a single, easily navigable location. This streamlined design will offer users convenience and accessibility for managing calls and contacts.
