‘Real criminals are…': Netizens clash as #ArrestKohli trends on X after outrage over Bengaluru stampede
'#ArrestKohli' has been trending on social media platform X following the stampede outside Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed 11 lives on June 4. However, some other netizens lashed out at Karnataka government officials, and organisers, calling them 'the real criminals.'
'***pid people trending #ArrestKohli. While the real criminals are organisers and government officials. And of course such fans who are climbing over others,' one user posted on X, along with a clip showing massive crowds who gathered outside the stadium to catch a glimpse of Virat Kohli and the IPL trophy — the team's first in 18 years.
After the stampede, cricket icon, Kohli — who was unarguably the most adored on Tuesday night, and for whom cricketer Suresh Raina had earlier demanded the Bharat Ratna — was someone who the social media wanted behind bars.
Angry netizens took to X to express their outrage, demanding Virat Kohli's arrest, adding to the hashtag's trend, with the social media platform clocking over 45,000 posts.
While some netizens argued that the Bengaluru stampede was due to management's failure, other users were not convinced, and demanded the cricket icon's arrest.
'#ArrestKohli? For what — showing up and leaving after the event? He didn't organize the crowd. Blame the system, not the players. We stand with you, King,' wrote one user.
Meanwhile, other fans were quick to refer to Pushpa 2 star Allu Arjun's arrest, who was nabbed by the police in December last year — after a stampede at Hyderabad's Sandhya Theatre — that killed a woman, and severely injured her child.
Netizens' demand for Virat Kohli's arrest comes hours after RCB officials were taken into custody.
Earlier in the day, the Head of Marketing and Revenue of the IPL team Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Nikhil Sosale, was among other official taken into custody by police in connection with the stampede outside Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru, police sources said on Friday.
Nikhil Sosale, Head of Marketing and Revenue of RCB, Sunil Mathew and Kiran Kumar from DNA entertainment private limited are among those being questioned, sources told news agency PTI.
Not just Virat Kohli, and RCB officials, but several government officials, including Karnataka CM's political secretary, others bore the brunt of the stampede that shocked the nation.
K Govindaraj was relieved from the post of political secretary to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah with immediate effect, said a state government notification.
Apart from this, Hemanth Nimbalkar, Karnataka's Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence), was also transferred without a new posting amid the outrage over the stampede.
Confusion over the victory parade, free passes, overcrowding and limited seats at the Chinnaswamy Stadium are said to be some of the major reasons that led to the brutal stampede.
According to police sources cited by PTI, what satrted as a confusion soon spiraled into a stampede when a large number of cricket fans—many without entry tickets—attempted to force their way into the stadium alongside those with valid passes.
The chaos was further fueled by conflicting announcements. At 11:56 am on Wednesday, the Bengaluru Traffic Police stated there would be no victory parade, only a felicitation ceremony at the stadium. But at 3:14 pm, the RCB team's management declared that a victory parade would take place at 5 pm. This left fans in a frenzy, unsure of what to expect.

4 Players Who Could Replace Virat Kohli At No. 4 Spot In Tests For India Against England: Karun Nair, Shubman Gill And...
photoDetails english 2912590 The Shubman Gill-led India will play a five-match Test series in England, starting June 20, 2025. During the all-important series, India will have to find an ideal batter for No. 4 spot as a replacement of batting stalwart Virat Kohli, who retired from Test cricket on May 12. Based on recent performances, domestic records, and suitability to English conditions, India have many talented batters, who could replace Kohli at No. 4 spot in the playing XI. Here are four players who could replace Kohli at No. 4 spot in the Indian Test team: Updated:Jun 07, 2025, 08:03 PM IST 1. Karun Nair 1 / 7 Karun Nair was rewarded for his prolific run in domestic cricket with a call-up in the India Test squad for the upcoming series against England. Karun, who is India's second triple-centurion after Virender Sehwag, has experience of batting in the middle order and he can be a strong contender to replace Virat Kohli at No. 4 spot in the Indian cricket team. The 33-year-old Nair recently hit a double hundred while playing for India A against England Lions in a four-day practice game in Canterbury. Karun Nair's Record In Test Cricket 2 / 7 Karun Nair has played just 6 Test matches for India so far, scoring 374 runs with an impressive average of 62.33 and strike rate of 73.91 so far. He has only one century to his name in Test cricket. However, it was the big one as he scored (303 not out) against England in 2016. 2. Shubman Gill 3 / 7 Shubman Gill has been named India's new captain in Test cricket ahead of the upcoming series against England. The 25-year-old Gill mostly batted at the top of the order or at number three in his Test career so far but he could take the big responsibility of replacing Virat Kohli at No. 4 spot in the Indian cricket team. Him moving to No. 4 spot could be a game changer moment for Gill and might elevate his Test career. Shubman Gill's Record In Test Cricket 4 / 7 Shubman Gill has scored 1893 runs in 32 Test matches with an average of 35.05 and strike rate of 59.92 so far. He has 5 centuries and 7 fifties to his name in Test cricket so far. 3. Sai Sudharsan 5 / 7 Sai Sudharsan has got his maiden call-up in India's Test squad for the upcoming series against England after his strong performances during the India A tour of Australia late last year and back to back impressive IPL seasons. Sudharsan, who made his international debut in the ODI format against South Africa in 2023, has a compact technique and strong temperament, which prompted selectors to give up a Test call-up. He can be a good contender to replace Virat Kohli at No. 4 spot in the Indian cricket team. The 23-year-old Sudharsan won the Orange Cap in the recently-concluded IPL 2025 after scoring 759 runs for Gujarat Titans in 15 matches. 4. Dhruv Jurel 6 / 7 Young wicket-keeper batter Dhruv Jurel has played only a few matches for India in Test cricket so far. However, he has impressed everyone with his remarkable temperament under pressure, particularly in his ability to stabilise innings and bat with the tail. The likes of Ravi Shastri and Ravichandran Ashwin have praised Jurel for his composure, shot selection, and ability to adapt to tough situations. Jurel is also very technically solid as a batter, which makes him a good candidate to replace Virat Kohli at No. 4 spot in the Indian cricket team. Dhruv Jurel's Record In Test Cricket 7 / 7 Dhruv Jurel has scored 202 runs in 54 Test matches with an average of 40.40 and strike rate of 53.15 so far. He has one half-century to his name in Test cricket so far.

Indore couple was accompanied by three men on day they went missing, claims guide
SHILLONG: A tourist guide on Saturday claimed that the honeymoon couple from Indore, Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam, was accompanied by three men on the day they went missing from Meghalaya's Sohra area. An official confirmed that the guide had provided this information to the police. While the couple went missing on May 23, Raja's body was found in a gorge on June 2 while a search for his wife was underway. Speaking to PTI, Albert Pde, a guide at Mawlakhiat, said he had seen the couple accompanied by three male tourists as they were climbing over 3,000 steps from Nongriat to Mawlakhiat around 10 am on May 23. He said he recognised the couple as he had offered his services to them on the previous day to climb down to Nongriat but they had politely refused and hired another guide. "The four men were walking ahead while the woman was behind. The four men were conversing in Hindi but I could not understand what they were speaking as I know only Khasi and English," Pde said. He said that he had offered his services to take them to Nongriat on May 22 but they had hired another guide, named Bha Wansai, and spent the night at Shipara homestay and returned the next day without a guide. "By the time I reached Mawlakhiat, their scooter was not there," the guide claimed. He has also given his statement to the police.

Haragobindo and Chandan, of Betbona village in Zafarabad, were among three people killed in the communal violence that broke out during protests over the Waqf (Amendment) Act in the Muslim-majority district in April. Thirteen people were named in the charge sheet, which was submitted before the Jangipur court on Friday, an officer said. Kolkata, Jun 7 (PTI) Haragobindo Das and his son Chandan were dragged out of their home and killed with an axe in front of their family during the communal violence in Murshidabad, police said in its 900-page charge sheet. These 13 people were charged with house-trespass, house-breaking, rioting, and murder committed by a group under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, besides various sections of the Arms Act, the officer said. The charge sheet also detailed how the accused persons managed to flee following the murder, and the efforts made to arrest them, he said. The trial in the case is expected to start soon, he added. The communal unrest, which lasted from April 8 to 12, caused widespread damage to properties, prompting the Calcutta High Court to order the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces. Police arrested over 300 people after more than 60 FIRs were lodged at various police stations of the district in connection with the violence.
