‘Saw On Wikipedia Too': Akansha Ranjan Reacts To ‘American Actress' Tag
Actress Akansha Ranjan, who is also Alia Bhatt's BFF, recently garnered much appreciation for her performance in the comedy-drama, Gram Chikitsalay. Previously, the actress has also appeared in multiple Hindi projects, including Guilty, Monica, O My Darling, Jigra and Decoded, among others. Despite this, she has been known as an American actress. The actress now cleared the air about the same in a recent interview.
In a candid conversation on a podcast for Digital Commentary, Akansha Ranjan was asked about her 'American actress' status. To this, the actress immediately responded in affirmation, mentioning, 'Haan haan maine bhi dekha hai Wikipedia pe American actress. Meri mom ki puri family America se hai (Yes, ye,s I have also seen American actress tag on Wikipedia. My mother's entire family is from America), so I am an American citizen."
In the same conversation, she then went on to explain how she ended up being part of the Hindi film industry. FYI: Akansha made her film debut in 2020 with the Kiara Advani-starrer movie Guilty, for which she even received a Filmfare OTT Awards nomination. Talking about the same, the actress discussed her actor father, Shashi Ranjan's roots and how he wished to see Akansha as an actress.
'Toh mere papa ko actor banana tha. Woh Haryana se hai. Young age se agar hum kuch bhi (So my father wanted to make me an actor. He is from Haryana. From a young age, if I said anything) like dhai lana, 'Dhai?? Dahi hota hai (It is yoghurt)," she shared.
She continued, 'Mtlb humko tok rahe hai. Toh humari diction, humari pronunciation bahut bahut achchi rahe chuki hai kyunki papa mtlb ghar se bahar bhej nhi rahe hai. Like it was very like 'Hindi actress kaise banogi? Hindi nhi aati.' (I mean, I was being interrupted. So my diction, my pronunciation, has remained very good because my father was not sending me out of the house. Like it was very like 'How will you become a Hindi actress? You don't know Hindi)."
The actress further talked about being roped into the film. She said, 'I signed the show very late. Just 3-4 weeks before the shoot. Agar thora bhi off huya, thora bhi prep jyada nhi huya ho aur off lage toh galiya toh hum sab khayenge. (If even a little bit of preparation is not done and it seems off, then we all will be abused)."
She added, 'Phir teen hafte, har roj agar main kahungi ki 'Rahul mujhe ye samaj nhi aa raha.' Woh bolega, 'Kya?' 'Rahul humein samaj nhi aaya. Please batayiye.' Mtlb woh bhi phir humara shuru ho gaya. Teen hafte aise prep karke. (Then for three weeks, every day, if I say that 'Rahul, I am not able to understand this.' He will say, 'What?' 'Rahul, I did not understand. Please tell me.' Meaning that it also started again for us. After preparing like this for three weeks)."
Directed by Rahul Pandey, the television series also stars Amol Parashar, Anandeshwar Dwivedi and Vinay Pathak in key roles. Created by Deepak Kumar Mishra and Arunabh Kumar and produced by TVF, Gram Chikitsalay premiered on May 9 on Prime Video.
Coming to her personal life, Akansha was born to Shashi Ranjan, an actor and director from FTII and Anu Ranjan, the Founder of The Indian Television Academy. Shashi has also appeared in several films.
Looking ahead, Akansha will next appear in the Telugu and Tamil bilingual science fiction action thriller film, MaayaOne, a sequel to the 2017 movie Maayavan.

‘Coolie' review: Rajinikanth survives Lokesh Kanagaraj's overloaded and tacky ‘Coolie'
Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie stars the ageless, tireless and boundless Rajinikanth as a former dock union leader with a messiah complex. Coolie, released in Tamil, Hindi and other languages, revolves around the conflict between Deva (Rajinikanth), the smuggler Simon (Nagarjuna) and Simon's savage enforcer Dayal (Soubin Shahir). Deva is minding his own business, being a killjoy at the chummery he runs by forcing the residents to abjure liquor. But Deva is no Gandhian, as is revealed when his friend Rajasekhar (Sathyaraj) is killed and Rajasekhar's daughter Preethi (Shruti Haasan) needs protection. Rajsekhar has invented a 'mobile cremator', an electric chair that instantly does the work, and is very useful to Dayal. Since he is apparently the only person on the planet who can operate the gewgaw, his death troubles Dayal a great deal. Deva calls Rajasekhar his best friend but Deva has somehow been kept out of this ash-strewn phase. After Rajasekhar's death, Deva returns to his brutal ways. Written by Kanagaraj and Chandra Anbhazhagan, the 168-minute film has an overdose of gory, nails-driven-into-flesh brand of violence to compensate for its cliche-ridden, contrived plot. Kanagaraj hopes that the brain that isn't yet jaded by visuals of gruesome torture won't start thinking about the holes in the plotting. For safety, Rajinikanth is surrounded by actors who represent each of the country's major film industries. Apart from Nagarjuna (Telugu) and Shahir (Malayalam), Bollywood's Aamir Khan plays Dahaa, a bulked-up gangster. Kannada star Upendra plays Kaleesha, Deva's old buddy. One of the film's themes is that people aren't who they claim to be. This barely works out for Deva, since Rajinikanth has played this kind of mystery man before, but it does for a couple hiding in plain sight. The twist concerning Dayal and the character played by Rachita Ram is the most novel idea in the film. Kanagaraj does badly by the female characters yet again, with Preethi constantly in danger of being raped and not too bright either. The attention is firmly on Rajinikanth, playing the same-old hero with flexible morals with unbridled enthusiasm. Shahir is the film's scene-stealer, memorably capturing Dayal's horridness and dancing skills. Play

‘If you put Shah Rukh Khan in Saiyaara, it will flop; Ahaan Panday doesn't have the personality to carry Jawan': Varun Badola
Actor Varun Badola, who appeared in the recent blockbuster Saiyaara, spoke about the film's two leads, the newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. He dismissed the suggestion that the era of stars is over, as many have been saying after the success of Saiyaara. Directed by Mohit Suri, the romantic drama has grossed over Rs 500 crore at the worldwide box office, ranking among the highest-grossing Hindi films of all time. It has also been compared to Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Maine Pyaar Kiya, and Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, all of which launched their respective stars – Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, and Hrithik Roshan. In an interview with Nayandeep Rakshit on YouTube, Varun said, 'People are saying that this film has proven that we don't need stars anymore. That's not true. Abhi tum Ahaan Panday ko utha ke Jawan mein daalo, Jawan flop ho jayegi. Shah Rukh ko Saiyaara mein daal do, Saiyaara flop ho jayegi (Try putting Ahaan Panday in Jawan, Jawan will flop. Put Shah Rukh in Saiyaara, and Saiyaara will flop). Shah Rukh will suddenly become too big for the film, and Ahaan will not have the personality to run Jawan.' Also read – War 2 Movie Review LIVE Updates: Climax of Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR film 'mind-boggling', say early reviews Refusing to predict how Ahaan's career might pan out, Varun said that it all depends on the choices the young actor makes going forward. Produced by Aditya Chopra, Saiyaara was offered to Ahaan as a launchpad after a separate project he was attached to fell through. Varun said that the young actor has a solid screen presence, and that he was impressed with Aneet's grasp over Hindi. He also admitted that the father-son storyline in the film was very 'Bhatt camp', but that's understandable because Mohit Suri started out under Mahesh Bhatt. This isn't the first time that Varun has expressed apathy towards the film's success. In an interview with SCREEN, the actor called out the publicity team, and suggested that videos of overzealous fans might not be authentic. 'I saw the euphoria on Instagram. Log jo chudiyaan tod rahe hai, chaatiyaan peet rahe hai (People were breaking their bangles, beating themselves). I think the promotions team went a little overboard there, where people are going to see the film, putting IV drips. Those people must have been told to give content in some way; thank god, people didn't get their legs broken and went crawling to see the film,' he said.
