Stone Temple Pilots Have Been Racking Up Wins On One Chart For Three Decades Now
It's been more than five years since Stone Temple Pilots last shared a brand new studio album, but the band hasn't stayed silent during that time. As part of this year's Record Store Day, the rock group issued a live set that fans rushed to buy in locations all around the world, and, based on the charts, especially in the United Kingdom.
The newly-shared set, titled Live in New Haven 1994, only manages to find a home on one genre-specific list as it arrives. The set opens at No. 25 on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. That particular roster is reserved for the top-performing rock-related releases of the week in the country, with that label including general rock, hard rock, and metal.
With Live in New Haven 1994, Stone Temple Pilots collects an eighth placement on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. This latest appearance is the band's first in just over five years. The last time the group launched a set onto the list was back in February 2020, when Perdida debuted at No. 8 before vanishing just one week later.
Stone Temple Pilots have now been sending projects to the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart for more than 30 years. The first time the band broke onto the ranking was in the fall of 1994 with Purple — the color-themed project that remains one of the outfit's defining releases. That effort climbed to No. 10 and lingered on the tally for 10 weeks.
Since then, nearly every major effort from the group has found its way to the list. Two standouts — Tiny Music… and the band's 2010 self-titled collection — both peaked at No. 2, which is the closest the group has come to ruling the ranking.
Live in New Haven 1994 was issued exclusively as a double LP for Record Store Day, and it was only available in brick-and-mortar locations. The concert that was recorded took place at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in August 1994, just weeks after Purple was released. In a nod to that full-length and the era it represents, the new live set was pressed on purple wax.

Billie Eilish Charts Multiple Bestsellers Thanks To The Vinyl Surge
Billie Eilish is one of several musicians fueling the continued surge in vinyl sales around the world, a trend that has now been growing for years. The young singer-songwriter's fans have demonstrated time and time again that they love purchasing her music, especially on wax. This week in the U.K., Eilish once again showcases her popularity on the format, as multiple projects return to the same tally simultaneously, giving her several bestselling vinyl titles. Eilish fills two spots on the Official Vinyl Albums chart in the U.K. this week. Both of her current wins didn't appear on the tally — which ranks the bestselling full-lengths and EPs on wax in the country — just days ago, but both have previously spent time on this roster. The highest of Eilish's two wins is Hit Me Hard and Soft (Isolated Vocals), an a cappella version of her full-length Hit Me Hard and Soft. The project reenters the tally at No. 13. Originally shared for Record Store Day 2024, the album recently became widely available and now appears on this ranking for just the second time ever. As it reappears, it reaches a new all-time high. Eilish's sophomore full-length Happier Than Ever is also a vinyl bestseller once more. This frame, in its seventeenth turn on the list, the rock-leaning project breaks back in at No. 37. Thanks to its widespread availability, Hit Me Hard and Soft (Isolated Vocals) returns to multiple tallies this week, not just the Official Vinyl Albums chart. The set earns a second stay on both the Official Albums Sales and Official Physical Albums lists as well, reappearing inside the top 40 and missing its previously set high point by just a space or two. Happier Than Ever, meanwhile, can be found on four other rosters, gaining ground on each of them. The singer's second full-length not only pushes north on multiple sales rankings, but also rises on the Official Albums Streaming chart, which shows that consumption of the music is growing via both purchases and streaming. Eilish's other two full-length projects — When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? and Hit Me Hard and Soft — both find space on four U.K.-based rosters. However, they experience different trajectories than the pair of vinyl bestsellers. Hit Me Hard and Soft declines on all four charts, while her debut is gaining ground on the same quartet of lists.

Tony Iommi Charts His First Solo Top 40 Hit Thanks To An Unlikely Feature
Tony Iommi joins Robbie Williams on 'Rocket,' earning his first solo top 40 hit in the United ... More Kingdom on multiple sales charts. Guitarist Tony Iommi is shown performing on stage during a live concert appearance with Black Sabbath on August 8, 2013. (Photo by)"n Tony Iommi is regarded as a god in the rock world, and has been for decades. He first rose to prominence as one of the founding members of Black Sabbath and, for years, he helped bring heavy metal to the masses with his signature guitar sound. While he's primarily known for his work with that group, Iommi does occasionally release music under his own name. The superstar scores a hit song in his home country of the United Kingdom this week by teaming up with a somewhat surprising figure. Iommi earns a top 40 hit on both the Official Singles Downloads and Official Singles Sales charts this frame. He joins Robbie Williams on the track "Rocket," which opens at Nos. 34 and 36, respectively, on those tallies, becoming a top 40 bestseller in the nation. It appears that "Rocket" is Iommi's first solo hit on both of those rankings. As a member of Black Sabbath, he's only reached the lists once, as "Paranoid" spent one frame on the rosters in August 2022. Of course, it's worth mentioning that these tallies didn't exist during the heyday of the heavy metal act. Iommi has landed more than one solo placement on the Official Rock & Metal Albums roster with his solo collections, but those titles didn't produce any hit songs across the Atlantic. "Rocket" serves as the lead single from Williams's upcoming album Britpop. It's interesting that the first taste of a full-length named after a style of pop music from the U.K. wouldn't typically be classified under that genre, and would feature one of the most recognizable figures in metal — but that's Williams, playing another one of his jokes. While Iommi may be new to these rankings, Williams has already scored a number of hits. The pop icon has racked up a dozen smashes on the Official Singles Sales chart and well over two dozen on the Official Singles Downloads list. A top 40 start is impressive for Iommi but rather low for Williams, one of the most successful pop stars in U.K. history. The tune doesn't reach the main list of the most consumed songs — the Official Singles chart — at least not yet, which is a bit disappointing.

Green Day Rocks Back To No. 1
Green Day's Saviors returns to No. 1 on the U.K.'s Official Rock & Metal Albums chart after the ... More deluxe edition drops, giving fans new music. (Photo by Frederic J. Brown / AFP) (Photo by FREDERIC J. BROWN/AFP via Getty Images) It's been almost a year and a half since Green Day released its most recent album Saviors, but fans are clearly still excited about the project. The pop-punk legends recently dropped the highly-anticipated deluxe edition of the set, which they'd been promoting for months with new tunes. Sales of the title grew dramatically, and this week the Grammy winner's latest full-length returns to multiple rankings and even brings the band back to the top spot on one tally in the United Kingdom. Saviors reappears at No. 1 on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart this week. The full-length hadn't been seen on this list since January, when it spent two frames in the lower reaches of the top 40 before disappearing. Last week's champion, Will You Haunt Me, with That Same Patience by Bury Tomorrow, descends dramatically, dipping from No. 1 to No. 26 in just its second frame on the tally. Now that it's back at No. 1, Saviors earns just its second stay in the penthouse on the list of the top-selling rock and metal releases in the U.K. Green Day debuted the project atop the tally in early February 2024. The set attempted to earn more time on the throne, living in the runner-up space for the next month, but it was unable to lead again until the release of its deluxe edition. Saviors only manages to reenter the top 10 on one of the five U.K.-based rankings where it finds a home at the moment. It returns this frame to each of them, after not appearing on any of the rosters just days ago. The set breaks back into the top 20 on the Official Physical Albums, Official Albums Sales, and Official Vinyl Albums charts, appearing at Nos. 13, 14, and 19, respectively. The title doesn't perform nearly as well when it comes to purchases on platforms like iTunes, as Saviors finds its way back to the Official Album Downloads roster, but only at No. 45. In the past, Saviors has reached No. 1 on each and every one of the charts on which it appears in the United Kingdom. It has understandably spent the most time on the Official Rock & Metal Albums list, racking up 39 frames. It has yet to manage 20 appearances on any of the other rosters.
