Gareth Bale emphatically rules out professional golf career
The former Real Madrid and Wales star is well known for his love of golf and has cut his handicap from "three or four" to just 0.1 since retiring from football in January 2023.
That has led to suggestions that Bale - who has played on the PGA Tour at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am where footage of him making a brilliant chip from a cart path went viral - could try and make it as a professional golfer, despite having turned 36 earlier this month.
"I'm fully, 100% sure, I can not make it professionally," Bale told BBC Wales ahead of this week's AIG Women's Open at Royal Porthcawl.
"When you are in golf and you see professional golfers play, compared to even your best stuff, it is nowhere near.
"When I've played with those players and watched them, you really appreciate how good they actually are.
"Never mind just playing with your friends, they are doing it under the most severe pressure, in tournament conditions, in hard weather.
"So there won't be any professional (golf) for me.

Ireland Boys' Captain John Carroll says the future is bright as his players were resolute in defeat to England on the second day of the R&A Boys' & Girls' Home Internationals in Cork. A youthful looking Irish outfit battled hard against their more experienced opponents with Isaac Oliver (5&4), William O'Riordan (3&1) and Caelan Coleman (3&2) grabbing three precious victories in the afternoon singles. It was a tough day for the combined Irish side, with England claiming a 14.5-6.5 win and while they turn their attentions to Scotland and a winner-takes-all clash tomorrow, Ireland will face Wales looking for more positives. 'It was always going to be tough. We came here knowing that England are probably the strongest of the four home nations but we gave it a good go,' said Carroll. 'We have picked a very young team with a view to giving them experience for next year, we had a disappointing European Championships in Czech Republic where we got relegated to Division 2. 'Hopefully these 16-year-olds, and in one case a 15-year-old, will get the experience to get us back up next year to Division 1. Fantastic group, there is never an issue with them, travelling around France, Scotland, England, Spain, all over Europe. 'A great crew, they have built up a great bond and they are a young team. 'Our girls will go out first (against Wales), our girls have been flying, they came third in the European Championships getting a bronze medal, doing the country proud. However, they fell 4.5-2.5 behind and England took control early in the afternoon singles. Scotland also secured their second straight win on Wednesday after a comprehensive 15-6 defeat of Wales. The Scots were 5.5-1.5 ahead following the morning foursomes and won nine of the singles matches to keep their campaign on track. 'Delighted with that, I thought today would be a really tough game and it was but the troops have come through again. Some great golf out there from both teams and very happy to win,' said Scotland Captain Stuart Johnston. 'That (England) will be tough obviously, they are a good team. They have got a lot of great players so we will just go out and do our best, take it match by match. 'If we prevail then that is fantastic, if we don't then we will give it our best shot.'

Justin Thomas looking to earn automatic Ryder Cup spot with PGA Tour run-in
The reformatting of the FedEx Cup playoffs has brought a new dynamic to the PGA Tour 's run-in, with Justin Thomas admitting the final three tournaments – starting with the FedEx St Jude Championship in Memphis – will determine how he will look back on his season. Thomas, a winner of the RBC Heritage earlier in the year, has improved from 25th at the end of 2024 up to his current fourth position on the official world rankings, but is keen to add further wins in the coming weeks, and to book his US Ryder Cup spot for the match in Bethpage next month. 'I'm definitely not going to make any judgments or assess anything for the time being. With three big events left and three tournaments, I feel like I could have a good chance to go out and try to win and put myself in contention. 'That's the goal, just to try to do that each week. I'm teeing it up these next three, and hopefully we can try to get a couple of them and ultimately the FedExCup,' said Thomas of the run-in that takes in the St Jude, next week's BMW and finally the Tour Championship where, unlike in recent years, each of the 30 players who make it to East Lake will start off level. READ MORE Thomas is currently seventh in the US Ryder Cup standings and is aiming to get into the top six to earn an automatic place in Keegan Bradley's team: 'I want to be in that top six. Ireland star has Lions teammates in stitches after brutal putdown
The British and Lions tours are famous for behind the scenes access to players and coaches. Quite often, some of the most memorable moments of Lions tours comes from the documentary episodes as players from four different nations come together as one squad. The 2025 Lions tour, under the leadership of Irish boss Andy Farrell, featured 11 Irish players including Leinster's Josh van der Flier. The 2022 world player of the year failed to make a test appearance but he has absolutely nailed Welsh captain Jac Morgan in the final part of the Ultimate Test' docu-series. That YouTube series has taken fans behind the curtain on the 2025 tour. As part of the final episode, viewers were able to see what was happening on the team coach to the stadium ahead of the last game. Reading out suggestions for the 'Barry Crocker' (shocker) award, Van der Flier read out Morgan's message. The Wales captain and Lions teammate's text read: "Alright Josh, boy? You should do yourself for Barry Crocker for being the only Leinster player in the original squad not to get named in the Test team!" As Van der Flier mouthed "Ooo", the players laughed in response, with Jamie George and James Lowe lapping up the sledging. However, the Irish flanker had a very sharp and witty retort. "That's very rich from a man who's won more games for the Lions than he has for club and country this year!" he hit back. There was a massive roar from the players, with Ellis Genge's fist flying in the air, exchanging a smile with buddy Morgan, who was sat right next to Van der Flier. However, this wasn't the only bit of banter dished out by Morgan, who quipped via text: "Alright Josh, boy? Any ideas for the Barry Crocker? I was thinking we do Bundee Aki for being 37 years old and his highest academic achievement is the World Rugby Anti-Doping module." The Lions wrapped up the series against Australia after the second Test, winning with a game to spare for the first time since 1997 against South Africa. The docu-series has given fans a number of other highlights and insights. Ireland's Dan Sheehan revealed that he has struck up a surprising bromance with England's Ellis Genge, with the Leinster man admitting he was surprised to learn that the prop was 'not a d******d'.
