Known for its wealth of healthy fats and protein, among other beneficial nutrients, salmon is a staple on many health-conscious plates. However, healthy doesn't have to equate to bland. In fact, with the right seasoning, salmon can be transformed into an incredibly tasty dish.
The unique, rich flavour profile of salmon requires careful selection of spices and herbs that complement rather than overpower it. When cooked, its flaky, meaty texture paired with the right seasonings can create a truly spectacular meal, often served alongside a fresh salad or roast potatoes.
To elevate your salmon even further, consider adding cumin before popping it in the oven. Blue Glacier, expert salmon producers, endorse cumin as one of the best spices to pair with salmon. They explain: "There are few foods out there that feel as comforting as a warm plate of cumin-dusted salmon fillets,"
They add: "The best part is, if you cook the salmon on a skillet, it shouldn't take you more than 15 minutes to prepare! Just spray some olive oil on a preheated skillet, dust your fillets with the deliciously earthy ground cumin, and leave it for 5 minutes on each side, and voila. You've made yourself a healthy comfort food in no time."
Meanwhile, GF Chow suggests adding cumin to your salmon fillet for an extra kick of flavour. They even concoct a cumin oil, consisting of cumin, olive oil and paprika, which they then brush over the salmon fillet.
The salmon is then placed in a high-heat oven to crisp up. It's cooked for between 8 and 10 minutes, but you can leave it in longer if you prefer your fish more well done, reports the Express.
When it comes to seasoning salmon, the options are virtually limitless. Blue Glacier recommends pairing salmon with herbs such as rosemary, thyme and coriander.
They also suggest alternatives like curry powder, mustard seeds, salt and pepper with lemon juice, paprika, cayenne pepper and garam masala.
In a recent thread, Reddit users offered numerous suggestions, including combinations like soy sauce with honey and sriracha, sesame oil, garlic powder and Cajun seasoning.

NHS pays tribute to 'dedicated' doctor and family who died in plane crash
Dr Prateek Joshi was flying back to the UK with his wife Komi Vyas and their three children on the doomed Air India plane after they planned to settle down in the East Midlands In an emotional tribute University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB) and the NHS have shared their "deep sadness" following the tragic death of Dr Prateek Joshi and his family in the Air India plane crash this week. There were among the 242 passengers and crew on board, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 Brits, seven Portuguese nationals and one Canadian. Harrowing stories of the dead continued to emerge on Friday - including more tributes for Dr Joshi and his family who posted a selfie of them innocently smiling after boarding the Boeing 787 plane before it took off. Dr Joshi, 43, worked as a consultant radiologist at the Royal Derby Hospital and Queen's Hospital Burton for four years, after moving to Derby from India in 2021. He was flying back to the UK with his wife Komi Vyas – a fellow doctor - their daughter Miraya, eight, and twin sons, Pradyut and Nakul, five, who planned to settle down in the East Midlands. The NHS has released a new tribute to the doctor and his family on Friday. Dr Rajeev Singh, Consultant Radiologist and Clinical Director for Imaging at UHDB, who knew the family well has shared some words which truly capture the person Prateek was. Dr Singh said: "Prateek was full of joy, he was a wonderful man, friend, husband and father, and an exceptional Radiologist who was highly respected in his field. He approached everything with a smile, radiated positivity and had a great sense of humour. "He moved to Derby, from India, in 2021, quickly becoming a beloved colleague. He often entertained colleagues with stories about his passions outside of work, including his newly discovered love of fish and chips and enthusiasm for walking in the Peak District. "He touched the lives of so many people, both through his clinical work and as a colleague and friend to many. "It is hard to accept that a man with such a passion for life, and his beautiful young family, have been taken in this way. His passing has left a profound void, not only in his professional contributions but in the warmth and spirit that he gave to the world every day." Royal Derby Hospital described Dr Joshi as 'not only an excellent doctor for whom nothing was too much trouble, but also a warm, smiling and kind man who was a hugely liked and valued member of the team'. Stephen Posey, Chief Executive, added: "We are profoundly and deeply saddened at the loss of our dedicated and talented colleague, Dr Prateek Joshi and his family. Prateek was not only an excellent doctor for whom nothing was too much trouble, but also a warm, smiling and kind man who was a hugely liked and valued member of the team. "We are privileged that Prateek chose to give his skills, talent and knowledge to the NHS, and he will be sorely missed by everyone who had the pleasure of working with him." The NHS statement concluded: "Our thoughts are with Dr Joshi's family, friends and colleagues, and everyone who has been impacted by this tragedy, which is being felt across the world and within our local communities."

Experts are warning that storms and rising pollen levels could trigger the potentially lethal phemomenon known as "thunder fever". The connection between thunderstorms and a rapid rise in severe allergy responses is by now well-established. Scientists believe that during a thunderstorm, grains of pollen - the fine powder released by plants - absorb moisture and split into smaller fragments. While larger grains of pollen can be filtered out by hairs in the nose, the smaller fragments are able to pass through to the lungs - triggering the attack. An estimated 13 million people in the UK suffer from hayfever - an allergy to pollen. The Met Office has released an amber thunderstorm warning for southeast England and East Anglia from Friday evening into Saturday morning. According to their forecasts, the storms are set to send the pollen count soaring, with levels expected to be "high" across all of England - and as far north as central Scotland. However, they are due to spike to "very high" in Yorkshire & Humber, the East and West Midlands, London, and East and Southeast England. The pollen count is due to stay "high" over the weekend in central and southern England, before once again spiking in the south of England on Monday and Tuesday. While "thunder fever" may sound like a myth, its consequences are all too real for allergy sufferers. Emma Rubach, Head of Health Advice at Asthma + Lung UK, said: 'Thunderstorms can be risky for people with asthma if pollen and air pollution are triggers for their condition. "This is because high winds draw higher levels of pollen and pollution particles into the atmosphere. "Then, when the pollen comes into contact with water from rain, it breaks down into even smaller particles that, when breathed in, can get deeper into the airways and trigger asthma symptoms such as wheezing, coughing and chest tightness, leading to a potentially life-threatening asthma attack. 'The good news is there are steps people can take to reduce the impact of thunderstorms. "Firstly, they should take their preventer inhaler as prescribed and should also make sure they are taking antihistamines and steroid nasal sprays, if needed, if pollen is a trigger for them, to help control their pollen allergy. "They should also keep their reliever inhaler with them in case of emergencies, as this relaxes the muscles in the airways and helps to relieve sudden asthma symptoms. 'We'd also advise staying indoors during thunderstorms if possible, and on hot, stormy days keeping inhaler medications in cool, dry areas at home and in a dry cool bag when outdoors as they may not work as well when exposed to hot temperatures or damp environments.'
