Gang of young yobs terrorise Scots off-license with campaign of vandalism

A shopkeeper says his business is being terrorised by a feral gang of drunken, drug-fuelled yobs in a relentless campaign of vandalism.
Usman Munir has run Ruggie Boozers off-license on Rutherglen Main Street since 2021, and opened Cheeky Moos ice-cream parlour just across the street in 2023. But now, his shops have become targets from kids as young as 12.
The 38-year-old told how his business has become earmarked for terrifying daily attacks by a masked mob of teens who wreak havoc and showcase their crimes on TikTok.
Mr Munir said: 'I have an ice cream shop across the road called Cheeky Moos. I have seating booths in there and we are open late. The young team always come in drunk and make a mess.
'I have been trying to control that for 18-months now but on Saturday, May 3, they have started fighting my staff. I had to remove them from the shop.
'Since then, they have started attacking my off-license across the road, Ruggie Boozers."
On the night of Sunday, May 4, a gang of youths stormed into the store, smashing glass bottles and destroying equipment.
'They came behind the counter and grabbed glass bottles of alcohol and smashed them, while chucking others at my staff. They even broke my lottery machine,' he added.
'When they are vandalising my shop, they run in with masks and balaclavas on while another takes a video for TikTok.
"They threw white paint all over my shop and every day when we clean it up, they come back and do it again.
"They have vandalised my shop five times with white paint. Since Wednesday, May 7, I have just left it up as I know they will come back and do it again. I see them checking that it is still there.
'We have had problems before but nothing like this. It is ridiculous.'
The ongoing rampage has left Mr Munir staring down a £6,000 repair bill – and fearing for the future of his businesses.
He said: 'This is affecting my business. The police are fed up with them as well but they are limited in what they can do because they are underage. They usually just chase them away.
'The main culprits are under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Half of them probably have no clue what they are doing because they are that out of it. I have had to have the police come out about 15 times in the past week.
'It's not just me that is having trouble with it. Businesses on this Main Street have had to move premises because of the hassle they are receiving from them.'
Police Scotland have confirmed that they have arrested and charged a 15-year-old boy in connection with vandalism at Ruggie Boozers.
A spokesperson for the force said: "We have received several reports of vandalism at a premises in Main Street, Rutherglen in May 2025.
"A 15-year-old male youth has been arrested and charged in connection.
"Enquiries are ongoing and there will be increased patrols in the area."

Smyth is suspected of involvement in the killing of 36-year-old Belfast man John George, whose body was discovered in a remote orchard in southern Spain earlier this year. Mr George disappeared in December 2024 while visiting Spain for what was reportedly a short holiday. His body was found on January 7, dumped in an isolated orchard near the town of Rojales, close to Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca. He had been stabbed and shot multiple times, including wounds to his chest and face. Soon after Mr George's disappearance, Smyth left Spain along with Allen, a model from Newtownabbey, County Antrim. They were traced to an Airbnb in Portugal, booked under Allen's name, where Smyth had been living for about a month. He was arrested there in March 2025 under a European Arrest Warrant and subsequently extradited back to Spain. Despite being the subject of an active Interpol red notice, Smyth was somehow able to travel to Gibraltar in February with Allen, where the couple were married in a civil ceremony, she said. According to Allen, the wedding took place at The Convent, the official residence of the Governor of Gibraltar - a venue often used for high-profile ceremonies, including royal receptions. Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, Allen confirmed the marriage but defended their decision to keep it quiet. '[No-one] public needs to know anything about me, hence why it wasn't uploaded in February,' she said. 'And my partner's case or a murder has nothing to do with a marriage. "I've already done my bit in court. I was the one who suggested getting married.' Though she claims to have kept the wedding private, Allen has shared glimpses of her married life on TikTok, including photos of her wedding ring and a screenshot of a virtual prison visit with Smyth. She continues to post regularly from Spain. Allen is not a suspect in the murder investigation and is not being sought by Spanish authorities. However, the fact that the reported marriage occurred during an international manhunt has raised questions about how Smyth was able to legally marry without alerting authorities - particularly given that he was named in international arrest warrants at the time. Under Spanish law, marriage between a suspect and their partner could potentially offer legal benefits. Spousal privilege protects certain communications between married couples from being used as evidence in court. However, such privileges are limited and not absolute. Following his arrest, Smyth was returned to Spain in March and is currently being held in a remand facility in Badajoz, a city in the Extremadura region near the Portuguese border. Court proceedings remain closed to the public in accordance with Spanish judicial norms, and details of the case remain limited. A second man, Michal Maly, a Czech national, was also arrested in connection with the killing. He was taken into custody on January 10, shortly after Mr George's body was found, and remains on bail while under investigation for being an alleged accomplice. Mr George's family had reported him missing after he failed to board a scheduled flight back to Belfast on December 18, four days after he was last seen. Bodies of two hillwalkers found on the same day as death toll on Scotland's peaks rises to four in a week
The bodies of another two hillwalkers have been found in the Highlands as the number of people who have died in Scotland's mountains this week rose to four. The tragic incidents happened in a week that saw blizzards hit some of the country's highest peaks just weeks after a spring heatwave had created perfect climbing conditions. The latest tragedy took place on a 2,920ft hill in Wester Ross. A Police Scotland spokesman said: 'Around 1.20am on Saturday, June 7, the body of a 70-year-old man was recovered by mountain rescue teams from An Ruadh-stac. 'There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.' The climber has not yet been named. The police statement came just hours after officers announced that a body had been found in the search for a hillwalker who went missing on the Isle of Skye. Roddy MacPherson was last seen walking towards Sligachan Bridge. The 67-year-old had not been heard from since, sparking a major search. Police have said a body was found at Harta Quarry in the Cuillins on Friday. It was spotted by a mountain rescue team and extracted by the Stornoway Coastguard helicopter. Neil Urquhart, leader of Skye MRT, said it appeared the hillwalker had fallen. His team had searched for three days in what was their seventh call-out in six days. A Police Scotland spokesman said: 'There would appear to be no suspicious circumstances. Formal identification has yet to be made. 'The family of Roddy MacPherson, 67, who had been reported missing from Skye on Wednesday, June 4 have been informed.' It comes after the death of two other hillwalkers this week. On Thursday a 46-year-old climber plunged 650 feet to his death on Ben Nevis. His female companion was rescued by visiting members of Cockermouth MRT who were on the UK's highest mountain at the time. Members of Lochaber MRT and a Coastguard helicopter from Prestwick extracted the body of the climber who was on the Great Tower of Tower Ridge – about 600 feet below the 4,413ft summit. Astie Cameron, deputy leader of Lochaber MRT, said. 'It was very difficult conditions – a return to winter. It was a full-on blizzard. 'The chap must have fallen 200 metres [656 feet]. Fortunately, there were mountain rescue team members from Cockermouth nearby and they were able to get the other climber to safety. 'But because of the conditions we had to get the man's body round to Observatory Gully so the helicopter could get in. It was very difficult.' Police Scotland said it was made aware of a hillwalker having fallen from Tower Ridge around 1.45pm on Thursday, June 6. It said the Coastguard attended and located the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. A body was also found on Monday in the search for a missing Swiss hiker who was on a long distance trek through the Highlands. Bernard Trottet was last known to be at Corryhully Bothy near Glenfinnan on May 27. The 65-year-old had been heading north towards Kinloch Hourn in Knoydart on the Cape Wrath trail. Police discovered a man's body in the water of the Kinloch Hourn area. Again, there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances. While formal identification is yet to take place, Mr Trottet's family has been informed. It is believed Mr Trottet may have been trying to cross a river when he was swept away.
