EXCLUSIVE Moment yobs terrorise shopkeeper amid 'campaign of vandalism': Deflated owner opens up about daily attacks 'by drunken, drug-fuelled' youngsters
A shopkeeper has shared the horrors of a relentless campaign of vandalism caused by drunken, drug-fuelled youngsters, with some as young as just 12 years old. Usman Munir, 38, has revealed that two of the shops he owns on Rutherglen Main Street, Glasgow, have become the target of unprecedented violent attacks caused by masked teenagers. Having opened Ruggie Boozers off-licence in 2021, followed by ice cream shop Cheeky Moos across the road in 2023, he now fears for the future of his businesses as a result of the terrifying daily attacks caused by the yobs, who have taken to TikTok to showcase their sordid crimes. Speaking to MailOnline he said that had previously become used to large groups of 'rowdy' youngsters frequenting his shops, demanding food, juice or to use the bathroom. But, on Saturday, May 3, a gang of up to 10 masked teenagers entered his shop, all allegedly under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and became increasingly 'out of control', 'fighting his staff' before being forcibly removed from the premises. Reflecting on the horrific ordeal, Mr Munir added: 'It started getting beyond a joke as a new and younger generation started coming in. 'The younger they get, the tougher they get, and the more ruthless. They were out of control.' Just one day later, another gang of violent youths, some, he believes, as young as 12 years old, entered the store and smashed up numerous pieces of equipment and glass bottles. They then proceeded to throw alcohol bottles at his fearful staff and even broke his lottery machine. Terrifying CCTV footage from outside the shop shows young teenagers throwing eggs at the building and stealing signs, while in another damning clip, two youngsters appear to grab food items before quickly running out of the door without paying. Outlining the extent of the 'appalling' violence, Mr Munir said: 'They threw white paint everywhere and so we cleaned it up the next day. But then, they just did it again. 'In the end, we realised they were watching our movements and so stopped cleaning it.' Alongside 'fiddling' with the locks to the shop in an attempt to gain entry, Mr Munir said that a storage van in a car park adjacent to his shop was also 'broken into' by the drunken youths who he believes 'get together for a few hours, cause trouble and then disappear'. On another occasion, the shopkeeper also alleged that the older brother of one of the young teenagers 'got up in his face' and asked him for a £20,000 ransom to end the ongoing violence. Mr Munir, who said he has 'never experienced anything like this before', estimates that it should cost an eye-watering £10,000 to £12,000 to repair the extent of damage caused, with the shopkeeper currently in the process of looking into installing shutters on the inside of his windows for 'extra protection'. Having contacted the police an estimated 15 times within the last week alone, he added: 'It got to a climax point with it all happening but we are getting there now. A lot of my staff were left very shaken up, shocked and appalled. They are not used to this sort of violence. 'I've had trouble before, but nothing like this. I've never experienced it so many days in a row.' Police Scotland have confirmed that they have arrested and charged a 15-year-old boy in connection with vandalism at Ruggie Boozers, with a spokesperson for the force stating: 'We have received several reports of vandalism at a premises in Main Street, Rutherglen in May 2025. 'A 15-year-old male youth has been arrested and charged in connection.

Gang of young yobs terrorise Scots off-license with campaign of vandalism
Usman Munir's off-license has been vandalised by a group of teenager A shopkeeper says his business is being terrorised by a feral gang of drunken, drug-fuelled yobs in a relentless campaign of vandalism. Usman Munir has run Ruggie Boozers off-license on Rutherglen Main Street since 2021, and opened Cheeky Moos ice-cream parlour just across the street in 2023. But now, his shops have become targets from kids as young as 12. The 38-year-old told how his business has become earmarked for terrifying daily attacks by a masked mob of teens who wreak havoc and showcase their crimes on TikTok. Mr Munir said: 'I have an ice cream shop across the road called Cheeky Moos. I have seating booths in there and we are open late. The young team always come in drunk and make a mess. 'I have been trying to control that for 18-months now but on Saturday, May 3, they have started fighting my staff. I had to remove them from the shop. 'Since then, they have started attacking my off-license across the road, Ruggie Boozers." On the night of Sunday, May 4, a gang of youths stormed into the store, smashing glass bottles and destroying equipment. 'They came behind the counter and grabbed glass bottles of alcohol and smashed them, while chucking others at my staff. They even broke my lottery machine,' he added. 'When they are vandalising my shop, they run in with masks and balaclavas on while another takes a video for TikTok. "They threw white paint all over my shop and every day when we clean it up, they come back and do it again. "They have vandalised my shop five times with white paint. Since Wednesday, May 7, I have just left it up as I know they will come back and do it again. I see them checking that it is still there. 'We have had problems before but nothing like this. It is ridiculous.' The ongoing rampage has left Mr Munir staring down a £6,000 repair bill – and fearing for the future of his businesses. He said: 'This is affecting my business. The police are fed up with them as well but they are limited in what they can do because they are underage. They usually just chase them away. 'The main culprits are under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Half of them probably have no clue what they are doing because they are that out of it. I have had to have the police come out about 15 times in the past week. 'It's not just me that is having trouble with it. Businesses on this Main Street have had to move premises because of the hassle they are receiving from them.' Police Scotland have confirmed that they have arrested and charged a 15-year-old boy in connection with vandalism at Ruggie Boozers. A spokesperson for the force said: "We have received several reports of vandalism at a premises in Main Street, Rutherglen in May 2025. "A 15-year-old male youth has been arrested and charged in connection. "Enquiries are ongoing and there will be increased patrols in the area." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Couple dies in Shangla fire as Punjab on heatwave alert
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a province-wide high alert in anticipation of a sharp rise in temperatures and a possible heatwave expected to grip cities and plains from May 15 to 19. According to a statement issued on Wednesday, PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Khan has directed all commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab to remain vigilant. He instructed that all concerned departments, including district administrations, be placed on high alert to mitigate the potential impact of extreme weather. A PDMA spokesperson stated that an unusual temperature rise is forecast over the coming days, with temperatures expected to remain 4 to 7 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average until May 20. The advisory further noted the possibility of a shift in weather patterns toward the end of the forecast period. Westerly winds are expected to enter Punjab from the evening of May 19, potentially bringing rainfall to most districts between May 19 and 20. The PDMA's alert emphasises the need for preventive measures by both the public and authorities to minimise risks associated with the heatwave. Citizens have been advised to stay hydrated, limit exposure to direct sunlight and adopt necessary precautions against heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses. In anticipation of emergencies, district administrations have been instructed to ensure adequate preparedness to respond swiftly to any developments during the high-temperature spell. Couple dies in wildfire As mercury soars and forests become more vulnerable to fires, a couple was burnt to death late Tuesday night as raging wildfires engulfed the forests of Hasham Khel Dab mountains in Martung tehsil of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's Shangla district, according to police. Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Usman Munir said the victims, a man and his wife, were trying to save the firewood stacked near their home when the flames reached their vicinity. In the process, they were trapped and fatally burned. According to Sub-divisional Forest Officer (SDFO) Zahid Hussain of the forest department in Alpuri, the fire originated from bushes set ablaze by the couple themselves near their residence. However, the fire spiralled out of control due to intense and gusty winds, eventually spreading to the surrounding forest and turning into a full-scale wildfire. The deceased were identified as Hakim Zada and his wife, Hajiroon. According to officials, the blaze has since been completely extinguished, and the bodies of the victims have been recovered from the site. Officials confirmed that compensation would be provided to the next of kin of the deceased couple. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a heatwave advisory for the province, forecasting a significant rise in temperatures across the province from May 15 to 19. According to the advisory, daytime temperatures are expected to remain 5 to 7°C above the seasonal average due to persistent hot and dry weather. A western weather system is anticipated to enter upper parts of the province between May 19 and 20, possibly bringing rainfall and hailstorms.
