Gregor Brown called up to Lions tour over concerns of the fitness of lock Joe McCarthy
MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Scotland second rower Gregor Brown has been called up to the British and Irish Lions' tour of Australia because of concerns over the fitness of lock Joe McCarthy.
Brown was to join Andy Farrell's squad in Melbourne on Sunday to provide cover for Tuesday's final midweek match against a First Nations and Pasifika XV.
McCarthy left the field in the 44th minute of Saturday's 27-19 victory over the Wallabies because of a foot issue that makes him in doubt for the Lions' attempt at clinching the three-test series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday.
'It was niggling away at Joe. We got him off. Hopefully we got him off in time,' said head coach Farrell, who revealed that the Ireland player also has heel pain due to plantar fasciitis.
Brown joins Rory Sutherland and Ewan Ashman in leaving Scotland's tour of New Zealand to link up with the Lions. All three of them started Friday's 41-12 victory over Samoa in Auckland.
The Lions are now 6-0 in their Australian tour after wins over Super Rugby franchises Western Force,Queensland Reds, Waratahs and Brumbies and an Australia-New Zealand invitational XV.

Veteran Australia prop Allan Alaalatoa was ruled out of the third British and Irish Lions Test Tuesday, the Wallabies' second injury blow in as many days. Lock Nick Frost said the team were hungry for another shot at Andy Farrell's men after their disappointment at losing in Melbourne to Hugo Keenan's controversial late try. "There's a bit of fire in the belly from the last couple of games, and you're playing in Sydney, for a lot of the boys, that's (their) hometown," he said. BASSETERRE, St. Kitts — Australia completed a sweep of the Twenty20 international cricket series with a three-wicket victory over West Indies on Monday to finish its Caribbean tour with an 8-0 record. Australia went into the last game on a 7-match winning streak following the 3-0 test series sweep and victories in the first four of the T20 internationals. It was Australia's first sweep of a five-game T20 series and only the second at the most elite level after India's in New Zealand in 2019-20.

Adam Zampa has made Aussie cricket history after becoming the first bowler to reach 100 T20 games for the nation as Australia completed the 8-0 clean sweep of the West Indies. Australia chased down the West Indies' modest total of 170 in the fifth and final T20 clash with Tim David and Cameron Green once again starring for their side. While the Aussie batters found runs hard to come by in the Test series, which the visitors won 3-0, there were no issues against the white ball. While Australia's top order struggled in game five, big-hitter Tim David entered the crease and blasted 30 runs off 12 balls to give the Aussies a huge boost. Mitch Owen (37 off 16) once again showed why he could be a permanent fixture in the side (37 off 16), before Green continued his excellent white-ball form having hit 32 off 17 balls. And while the batters managed to get the total with three over to spare, the bowlers were the stars. Ben Dwarshius and Nathan Ellis ripped through the West Indies batting line-up combining for five wickets. And Zampa managed to mark his record-breaking milestone with a wicket. Zampa became the fourth Australian to reach 100 games in the T20 arena, but is the first Aussie bowler to do so. He joins greats such as Glenn Maxwell, David Warner and Aaron Finch to record 100 international games. The Australian bowler has been one of the best white-ball spinners in recent years and deserves the milestone. Zampa will have another chance to add to this tally when Australia host South Africa for three T20s and then three ODIs before the Ashes series gets underway.
