La Liga Round Up: Athletic Club battle back vs Sevilla as Espanyol stun Atletico Madrid
The first Sunday of the 2025/26 La Liga season produced three cracking games including a fight back win for Athletic Club at home to Sevilla. Getafe cruised to a 2-0 win on the road and Atletico Madrid rounded off the day with xxx. Let's see how Sunday's action unfolded… Celta Vigo 0-2 Getafe Celta Vigo secured European qualification at the end of last season but they were caught cold by Getafe in Galicia. After a low key first half, the visitors edged in front just after the restart, as Christantus Uche powered clear to set up Adrian Liso for a debut goal. Uche then sealed the result for Getafe on 72 minutes, as he was once again too quick for the Celta backline, before slotting past Ionuț Radu. Athletic Club 3-2 Sevilla Athletic Club survived a late comeback to start the campaign with a win in Bilbao. Nico Williams got the ball rolling early on, as he slotted home from the penalty spot, and immediately dedicated it to the home fans following his decision to stay at the Estadio San Mames. Williams Jr then turned provider as his deflected cross was turned home by Maroan Sannadi from close range. However, they left the door open for Sevilla after the restart, as Dodi Lukebakio scored on the hour mark before Lucien Agoume netted an equaliser. That looked to turn the tide in the visitors favour, but the final twist belonged to the hosts, as Robert Navarro grabbed his chance for the winner. Espanyol 2-1 Atletico Madrid Diego Simeone's new-look Atletico Madrid were stunned by Espanyol's late rally in Barcelona. Chances flowed at both ends early on with Leandro Cabrera denied by Jan Oblak and Alvarez was kept out by Marko Dmitrovic. However, a moment of magic from Argentinian hauled Atletico Madrid in front before the break, as he curled home a magic free kick. That looked to set the visitors on course for victory, but Espanyol stayed in game, and Miguel Rubio stabbed the hosts level from close range. As Espanyol threw caution to the wind late on, it paid off in style, as Pere Milla header home a cracking winner. Images via Getty Images/OneFootball

LIV Golf Indianapolis: Jon Rahm Shoots 60, Claims Individual Championship
LIV Golf LIV Golf Indianapolis: Jon Rahm Shoots 60, Claims Individual Championship Published Aug. 17, 2025 5:12 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link WESTFIELD, Ind. – In the final round at LIV Golf Indianapolis, Legion XIII Captain Jon Rahm chased down Torque GC Captain Joaquin Niemann to become the 2025 season-long Individual Champion. Rahm's stellar 11-under 60, his lowest round of the season, got him into a playoff with Sebastián Muñoz for the event title, which Muñoz won on the first playoff hole. But it wasn't enough to keep Rahm from claiming the season-long Individual Championship. Rahm has now finished the season at the top of the standings in both of his seasons with LIV Golf. Muñoz, who on Friday shot the first 59 in professional golf history that included a double-bogey, shot a final round 6-under 65 before winning the playoff. Despite having five wins this season, Niemann came up short in the season-long race against Rahm. Niemann shot a 5-under 66, which wasn't quite enough to fend off Rahm's thunderous charge. Torque GC earned their first team victory since LIV Golf Greenbrier in 2023. The team shot a cumulative score of 64-under for the week, which was the lowest overall team score in LIV Golf history, beating the previous record of 53-under. ADVERTISEMENT Throughout the final round, Majesticks GC co-captains Lee Westwood, Henrik Stenson and Ian Poulter, as well as HyFlyers GC teammates Andy Ogletree and Brendan Steele, and Mito Pereira of Torque competed fiercely in the relegation race. Ultimately, Stenson, Ogletree, and Pereira could not climb out of the Drop Zone and now face relegation from the LIV Golf League for 2026. Poulter surged with birdies on four of his final five holes at LIV Golf Indianapolis, narrowly escaping the Drop Zone. His late charge, however, pushed his teammate Stenson into the dreaded relegation zone. TEAM SCORES LIV Golf's new scoring format this season now involves all four scores now counting in every round in the team competition. Here are the results and scores for each team after Sunday's Round 3 of LIV Golf Indianapolis. This piece is courtesy of Mike McAllister in partnership with LIV Golf . Rattler rallies Saints to a 17-all preseason tie with the Jaguars after Lawrence's productive start
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Spencer Rattler connected with Dante Pettis for a 20-yard touchdown with 21 seconds left and scrambled for a 2-point conversion to help the New Orleans Saints salvage a 17-17 tie with the Jacksonville Jaguars in a preseason game Sunday. With no overtime in the preseason, the Jaguars crossed midfield in the final seconds — one week after kicker Cam Little made a 70-yard field goal. But Seth Henigan's pass over the middle bounced off of Chandler Brayboy's hands and into the arms of Saints safety Jonas Sanker, whose 40-yard return ended when he was pushed out of bounds at the Jacksonville 24 as time expired. Had Sanker run out of bounds a bit earlier, New Orleans (0-1-1) could have set up for a game-winning kick. Rattler, who relieved rookie Tyler Shough in the second half, went 18 of 24 for 199 yards, one TD and one interception. Mason Tipton, a second-year pro out of Yale, caught six passes for 100 yards, one week after his 54-yard touchdown catch from Shough against the Los Angeles Chargers. Parker Washington caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Lawrence and Bayshul Tuten rushed for a 3-yard touchdown for Jacksonville (0-1-1). Lawrence played for two drives and had little trouble moving the offense while going 8 of 10 for 76 yards and a TD. However, his first drive ended with a turnover on the New Orleans 12 when Lawrence tripped as he turned to hand off to Tank Bigsby. The ball squirted loose and defensive lineman Vernon Broughton recovered. Shough, who started for the first time and played the whole first half, went 9 for 12 for 66 yards without a turnover. He led one scoring drive that concluded with Blake Grupe's 51-yard field goal after Chris Olave dropped a third-down pass that could have extended the series. Little converted from 53 yards as the first half ended to make it 17-3, making him 5 for 5 in the preseason, all on kicks longer than 39 yards. Rattler, a second-year pro competing with Shough for the starting spot, took over to start the second half and quickly led New Orleans into field goal range with the help of Christian Braswell's pass interference penalty on a deep pass intended for Tipton. That set up the first of Irishman Charlie Smyth's second-half field goals. The second kick, which made it 17-9, came after Rattler connected with Tipton for 45 yards down the right sideline. The Saints threatened to score one possession before the tying drive, but that series stalled when Rattler was intercepted by Keni-H Lovely at the Jacksonville 7. Jacksonville QB Nick Mullens, who took over for Lawrence in the second quarter, passed for 112 yards and led the Jags to 10 points. Mullens' 26-yard pass to tight end Hunter Long, who made a leaping grab in tight coverage, set up Tuten's TD. But Mullens saw a promising drive end in the third quarter when his pass over the middle was intercepted by Jaylan Ford at the Saints 15. Injuries Jaguars: Heisman Trophy winner and No. 2 overall draft choice Travis Hunter was scratched before the game with what the team has called an upper-body injury. Saints: Caesar Ruiz was examined in the injury tent in the second quarter after going down awkwardly as the pocket collapsed on Shough, who was sacked by Ventrell Miller and Jack Kiser. Up next Jaguars: Visit the Miami Dolphins on Saturday. Saints: Host the Denver Broncos on Saturday. ___ AP NFL:
