KUUMAR SHYAM (ABU DHABI)Indian film star Hrithik Roshan has issued a direct appeal to audiences in Abu Dhabi and across the UAE to watch his new film, 'War 2,' as it opens in cinemas nationwide on Friday. The message comes via a short promotional video shared by Miral, the developers of Yas Island, where some parts of the film were shot, thus underscoring the UAE's role as a prominent filming hub for the production.The sequel to the 2019 hit 'War' is directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Aditya Chopra for Yash Raj Films as part of the YRF Spy Universe. Roshan reprises his role as Kabir Dhaliwal, set here on a rogue path, while NT Rama Rao Jr. (better known as Jr NTR) makes his Hindi-language debut as Vikram, the agent tasked with bringing Kabir to justice. Kiara Advani joins the principal cast, with Anil Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana also featuring. Their statements in the trailer outline a narrative framework – a continuation of the spy saga with Kabir pursued by Vikram – and reflect Abu Dhabi's continued strategy of supporting large international productions. The first part had proved to be a success when it was released in 2019.Beyond Abu Dhabi, trade and industry reports indicate an international shoot spanning multiple countries, with principal photography running across real locations during production from early 2024 through to mid-year of 2025. Dubai: For modern Indian cuisine, head to Punjab Grill
Good Indian food is not hard to come by in Dubai — from two Michelin-starred gastronomic journeys to traditional, low-key curry spots, both are available aplenty. Punjab Grill, however, sits comfortably between these two disparate concepts. Located within Anantara Downtown, the restaurant immediately made us feel welcome and at home while still offering an elevated environment — reminiscent of some of my favourite London curry houses, where my family would go for special occasions or when my dad wanted to treat me and my siblings if my mum was out of town. The delightful waiter recommended we opt for their tasting menu, which features a series of dishes celebrating the colourful cuisines of India's vast and varied regions, each interpreted through Punjab Grill's modern lens. We began our seven-course gastronomic journey with a light amuse bouche, consisting of a cheese kulcha with chili, walnut, and dates. The meal quickly progressed to appetisers, including a decadent stuffed aloo, chili and peanut thecha and meaty dakshin shrimps served with fried idli and curry leaf podi. After this flavourful start, we moved on to the larger dishes, with highlights including lemongrass and chili tikka kebabs, raunakeen lamb seekhan, and jimikand ka seekh — each dish brighter in spices, citrus, and overall character than the last. Following this parade of meaty dishes, we enjoyed saucier curries. The paneer roulade, served on a bed of creamy butter sauce, was my favourite dish of the evening (though it wasn't an easy choice to make). This was paired with makhani saag, parsi salli chicken, roomali roti, and brun pav. By this point, we were understandably full, but there's always room for dessert. We were presented with an array of Indian sweet treats, including kulfi, saffron falooda, and a rose and khus granita. This dining experience was hard to fault, with an array of decadent yet fresh flavours and bright interpretations of classic regional dishes. Emirati thriller ‘HOBA' to make global debut at Fantastic Fest 2025
Following its Fantastic Fest premiere, psychological horror-thriller 'HOBA' will hit UAE cinemas on October 30, 2025. Image Nation Abu Dhabi and Spooky Pictures have revealed that HOBA, a gripping psychological horror-thriller from acclaimed Emirati filmmaker Majid Al Ansari, will celebrate its world premiere at this year's Fantastic Fest this September. The festival hosted in Austin, Texas is one of the world's leading showcases for bold, boundary-pushing cinema. Marking the first Arabic-language Emirati feature on the Image Nation and Spooky Pictures slate, HOBA delivers a haunting, atmospheric story steeped in tension and emotional depth. It follows Amani (Emirati actress Bdoor Mohammed), a devoted wife whose world unravels when her husband returns home with a second wife, Zahra (Sarah Taibah, Saudi filmmaker and artist). But with Zahra comes something far more sinister, an unseen darkness that begins to consume their home, testing the limits of loyalty, love and survival. The cast also features Eman Tarik as Noor, Amani's daughter, and Jasem AlKharraz as her father Khalid. Behind the camera, Majid Al Ansari is joined by powerhouse producers Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Derek Dauchy and Rami Yasin, with Mohamed Hefzy and Yasir Al Yasiri as executive producers.
