News185 days ago
Suryavanshi's record-breaking run—30 sixes and a Youth Test half-century—has made him the headline act on India U19's England tour.
The 14-year-old Indian batting prodigy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, has taken the summer's Youth Test and ODI series by storm, smashing an incredible 30 sixes across just six matches. As the teams prepare for the decider at Chelmsford, all eyes are on Suryavanshi as he aims to turn his prolific numbers into a historic series victory for India U19.
Suryavanshi hammered 355 runs at an astonishing average of 71, clearing the ropes 29 times—more than any other player by a long shot and also tops the combined six tally of his nearest rivals.
A scintillating 143 from just 78 balls, earning him plaudits as the youngest centurion and fastest hundred-maker in U19 men's ODI history.
Suryavanshi made the seamless transition into the Youth Test Arena, as he continued his assault in the longest format of the game. Despite a modest first innings in the series opener at Beckenham, he stormed back in the second innings with a blistering 56 off 44 balls, including nine fours and a trademark six.
Vaibhav also picked up two wickets with his left-arm spin, making him the youngest player to ever score a half-century and take a wicket in the same Youth Test match—before even celebrating his 15th birthday.
Suryavanshi's presence has brought a rare buzz to England's youth cricket grounds, drawing fans from far and wide. Youngsters have flocked to catch a glimpse of the 'starboy" in action, while veteran analysts already liken his maturity and shot-making to some of India's greatest batting legends.
India's U19 captain, Ayush Mhatre, showcased his talent with a commanding 102 in the first Youth Test, followed by an additional 32 in the second innings.
Mhatre's celebratory moments made headlines as he marked his 18th birthday at Lord's, soaking in the iconic atmosphere of the ground.
As India U19 faces off against England U19 at the County Ground in Chelmsford for the second and final Youth Test starting today, anticipation is at its peak. With the series tied and the ODI trophy already secured, India's young players are eager to conclude their successful English summer with a Test series victory.
Suryavanshi, who has expressed his ambition to score a double century, could potentially make a significant impact in the second and final Youth Test.
Key Numbers This Tour:
355 runs in ODIs at 71 avg (5 matches), 29 sixes
70 runs and 2 wickets in 1st Youth Test, including a 44-ball 56

Star India cricketer reveals who asked Rishabh Pant to bat with injury, says ‘was having a discussion…

Star India cricketer reveals who asked Rishabh Pant to bat with injury, says 'was having a discussion… New Delhi: Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar praised vice-captain Rishabh Pant's decision to come out to bat despite a broken right leg on the second day of the fourth Test. Manjrekar called it a moment that the cricket world will remember for the next 50 years. How did Pant return to the field? On Thursday, Pant, who retired hurt due to injury on the first day, was greeted with a standing ovation by the spectators when he came out to bat limping on the second day. He played a courageous innings of 54 runs off 75 balls, which was his 18th half-century in Test cricket. Why was this decision taken? Manjrekar said, 'When we saw him talking to Gautam Gambhir and he was in his white dress, we thought he might come at the end of the innings. But he came on the field after the next wicket. He is injured, but never underestimate this player.' He further said, 'Even if he is told that he cannot move his feet, he can still control the game with his excellent eye and hand coordination. England should be worried that Rishabh Pant is back, even if he is clearly in pain.' What is the significance of this moment? Manjrekar compared this incident to Anil Kumble bowling with a bandage on his jaw. He said, 'Such moments are recorded in history, which are remembered for decades. This shows how eager he is to play for India.' He further said, 'Test cricket has a different charm in England. The amount of attention a cricketer gets here is not found anywhere else. Perhaps this is the reason why Pant has made up his mind to leave his mark in Test cricket as compared to white-ball cricket.' Who else contributed? Apart from Pant, Sai Sudarshan scored 61 and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 58 runs to help India post 358 in the first innings. Manjrekar said, 'This is a story that I will always carry with me. This Indian team is playing without two senior batsmen – experienced players like Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane are not in the team, yet they have batted almost 750 overs in this series.' He concluded, 'With almost no experience, this team has shown tremendous composure and discipline. It shows the hunger and maturity of this group.'

India And Pakistan In Same Group For Asia Cup 2025: Report

Last Updated: The clouds of uncertainty over this year's Asia Cup have been lifted with the continental tournament expected to start in the first week of September. The biennial Asia Cup tournament is expected to be played at the neutral venue due to the geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan with UAE the likely destination. The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in India but now will reportedly be played across two venues in the UAE with BCCI keeping the hosting rights. Following the dastardly terrorist attack in Pahalgam and the resulting India-Pakistan skirmishes at the border, various media reports claimed that Indian cricket team may withdraw from the Asia Cup. However, BCCI refuted any such development. Now, according to news agency PTI, during a meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in Dhaka which the BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla attended virtually, the decision to play the competition in UAE was taken. However, a final decision over the scheduling is still pending. 'The BCCI will host the Asia Cup in the UAE. India is likely to play all its matches in Dubai. There are still deliberations on scheduling," an ACC source told PTI. India And Pakistan In Same Group? The tournament will be held in T20I format this time around and as per reports, India and Pakistan will be kept in the same group meaning they could clash at least twice – once in the group stage and then Super Six with a possibility of a third match should both qualify for the final. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia says an official announcement regarding Asia Cup will be made in the coming days. 'Our vice-president Rajeev Shukla attended the ACC meeting. He will brief the members. I don't believe in speculations so you will get to know officially in a few days time," BCCI secretary Saikia said. When Was The Last Time India-Pakistan Clashed? India and Pakistan recently played against each other at the Champions Trophy in Dubai during a group stage match. The tournament was originally toz be hosted in Pakistan but BCCI's refusal to send its team resulted in it being held in Hybrid Model with India playing all their matches in Dubai including the semifinal and the final. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
