Summer McIntosh

400m freestyle
world record at the

with a timing of 3min 54.18sec in Montreal on Saturday.

Ariarne Titmus
.

World Championships
in Singapore.

McIntosh shattered the existing world record of 3:55.38, which was established by Titmus during the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, surpassing it by more than a full second.
"Going into tonight I knew that my training has been really good these past few months, and I knew that I could do something special," the 18-year-old star said. "I mean, I didn't think my training would be 54.1, but I'm really happy with that overall."

McIntosh's performance was remarkable as she achieved unprecedented success by completing each lap under 30 seconds, becoming the first woman to accomplish this feat. The Canadian's impressive split timings were: 27.22, 29.73, 29.61, 29.86, 29.62, 29.61, 29.47, 29.06.
Taking a break following her successful defence of the 400 metres freestyle title at the Paris Olympics last year, Titmus is unable to respond immediately to McIntosh's remarkable performance that shattered her previous world record.
Titmus maintains an undefeated record against McIntosh in head-to-head 400m competitions, securing victories with gold medals in Paris last year and Tokyo in 2021. However, the Canadian swimmer stands as her most significant challenger in the quest for a third consecutive Olympic triumph at Los Angeles in 2028.
McIntosh was just 17 when she secured victories in three events at the 2024 Paris Games, clinching gold medals in the 200m butterfly, 200m medley and 400m medley. She is now preparing to compete in Singapore with the aim of expanding her impressive collection of four world championship titles.

USA Cricket declares bold new era, sets sight on full ICC membership, game-changing expansion plans around LA Olympics

From being the CEO of Cricket West Indies for seven years to now leading Major League Cricket (MLC), Johnny Grave's new mission could redefine the global cricketing order. And in less than half a year into his new role, the Englishman has hit the ground running. Grave has already overseen MLC's expansion to three active venues for 2025, pulling off a coup by securing the Oakland Coliseum as a host ground. 'We've got to be ready with cricket in America to capitalize on that, both in terms of the greater enthusiasm it will generate at the grassroots level, in the schools and the colleges, and also in terms of the fan base, and not making it just a one-off,' he told Cricbuzz. As MLC gears up for a pivotal few years with the LA28 Olympics on the horizon, Grave believes America is sitting on an untapped goldmine. But transforming that promise into permanence will take more than showpiece events. 'How do we take those fans from the Olympics and move them through into becoming really sticky and engaged cricket fans, and actually getting them to actively support our MLC teams and the US national teams, because we need those teams to build their own fan bases,' said Grave. Grave is also looking to reshape the grassroots structure and revenue model for Minor League Cricket (MiLC), which currently runs on personal investment from private owners. 'We have had really positive talks with the owners about redefining the business model for Minor League to help ensure it becomes more sustainable, both from a league perspective and the individual teams,' he said. 'There is definitely value within Minor League and we've seen that in the last few months, with ownership changing, different investors coming into the individual teams.' Player development is also at the heart of Grave's blueprint. With full-time earnings for the majority of American cricketers still meagre, his aim is to establish a structure where pursuing cricket professionally is financially viable. 'We've had really good discussions with the US players' union. We're probably going to be the first league in the US to sign an agreement with the players' union… what USA-based cricketers are earning now compared to their Associate Member counterparts would be significantly ahead of any other team,' he said. Grave believes USA Cricket could soon make a strong case for full ICC membership, if it fixes its governance flaws. 'I think USA Cricket already has a very compelling case to become an ICC full member… The one concern I think the game of cricket might have would be the ongoing governance challenges that the board has faced over pretty much all of its recent history,' he noted. His understanding of ICC systems, gained through his years at the helm of a full-member board, could be key in lobbying for a unique pathway. 'Certainly everything that we're planning to do with Minor League Cricket and expanding the academy network, and with MLC already a premier domestic T20 tournament on the global stage… it is only going to assist the case.' Grave isn't just building a league. He's helping awaken a sleeping giant. And if the plans take shape, American cricket may soon do more than just catch up—it might well start leading the conversation.

UFC 316: Merab Dvalishvili beats Sean O'Malley with north-south choke in Round 3

Merab Dvalishvili delivered a relentless performance at UFC 316 , submitting Sean O'Malley with a north-south choke at 4:42 of the third round to retain his bantamweight title on Saturday at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. It marked Dvalishvili's first win by choke — and only his second submission finish. Kayla Harrison , the newly-crowned champion in the 135-pound division, received $50,000 for securing a submission victory in her title fight. The Olympic champion, with two gold medals to her name, systematically dominated Julianna Pena with superior grappling skills before securing a kimura submission at 4:55 of Round 2 in the UFC 316 co-main event. Kevin Holland delivered an impressive performance in the UFC 316 main card opener, finishing Vicente Luque with a D'Arce choke at 1:03 of the second round. Holland (28-13 MMA) has demonstrated his competitive edge by winning three out of his recent five bouts, coming out as a significant welterweight contender. Row over Bengaluru stampede intensifies after complaint against CM Siddaramaiah filed with governor

Bengaluru: A formal complaint was submitted to Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Saturday against chief minister Siddaramaiah over alleged negligence leading to the June 4 stampede near the Chinnaswamy stadium that claimed 11 lives, even as the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) intensified its attack on the Congress leadership in the state. In his complaint to the governor, Girish Kumar, a resident of Kottigepalya in Bengaluru, alleged that the chief minister had personally invited the public to participate in the celebrations of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) IPL victory without ensuring adequate safety arrangements. The complaint also questioned the state government's decision to host a grand reception for a private cricket franchise like RCB, claiming that IPL is a commercial venture driven by profit motives rather than national pride. 'Players are bought by franchises and play for money, not for the country or the state,' the letter alleged, pointing out that such celebrations were not extended to national heroes such as soldiers or Olympic athletes. The complainant also criticised deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar for receiving the RCB team at the airport, calling it excessive and unwarranted. He alleged that the government failed in its duty to protect citizens and demanded that those responsible for the mismanagement be held accountable. The stampede on June 4 evening occurred in front of the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru, where a large number of people thronged to participate in the RCB team's maiden IPL victory celebrations. At least 11 people died and 56 were injured in the incident. Meanwhile, the one-man inquiry commission constituted by the state government under retired high court judge John Michael Cunha to inquire into the stampede, has been asked to identify the persons responsible for the omissions or deficiencies that led to this incident. A political slugfest over the incident continued, with senior BJP leader and Union minister of state Shobha Karandlaje alleging that CM Siddaramiah and his deputy Shivakumar have 'blood on their hands', holding them directly responsible for the stampede and demanded their resignation. 'The parents who have lost their children are cursing. They (CM and DCM) are trying to wash the blood on their hands and wipe it on police officers,' Karandlaje alleged. Taking to social media, CM Siddaramaiah on Saturday said, 'I have ordered an increase in the compensation announced for the families of those who died in the stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium from ₹10 lakh each to ₹25 lakh.' The increased compensation announcement comes even as victims' family alleged that no one has visited them so far. 'We are a very poor family... It has been three days since my son died, but not a single official has visited our home. We have received no help from the government either,' Mariyamma, mother of Shiva Linga, who died in the stampede, told reporters. Separately, Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA)president Raghuram Bhat on Saturday said the resignation of A Shankar and ES Jairam, secretary and treasurer of the governing body, was accepted in an emergency meeting but ruled out dissolving the rest of the managing committee. The emergency meeting was convened after the two senior officials stepped down from their respective roles through a letter to the KSCA president, taking moral responsibility for the stampede .
