Josh Heupel details Boo Carter's status with Tennessee football
Fifth-year Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel met with media on Tuesday ahead of the Vols' first practice. He discussed sophomore defensive back Boo Carter and his status with Tennessee's football program.
"Boo is a part of our team here," Heupel said. "There's some things that he's got to accomplish to get back on the field with us. Don't have a set timeline on that. Our leadership council has been part of those things, those discussions, with me and with Boo."
The 5-foot-11, 220-pound defensive back appeared in al 13 games for the Vols as a freshman in 2024. He recorded 38 tackles, three tackles for a loss, one sack, one interception, one pass deflection and 12 punt return attempts for 198 yards.
Carter earned 2024 SEC All-Freshman Team honors and was named to the 2024 Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll.
Following the College Football Playoff, he announced a return to Tennessee as a sophomore in 2025. He went to the Vols from Bradley Central High School in Cleveland, Tennessee.

Ohio State vs Texas will be first season-opening No. 1 vs No. 2 game in history
Ohio State and Texas will face off in a historic season opener as the first time in college football history the top two teams will meet in Week 1. Ohio State's upcoming season-opening game against Texas was always going to be a blockbuster affair. It's two College Football Playoff contenders meeting each other right out of the gate. It's the place to be in Week 1, and the whole college football world knows it. ESPN's College GameDay will be there. So will FOX's Big Noon Kickoff. And the game that everyone is looking forward to just got more historic. With the release of the preseason USA TODAY US LBM Coaches Poll, the game will also be a battle between the top two teams in the country. Those games are rare, certainly, but not unheard of. While the BCS all-but guaranteed them occurring at least once a year in the postseason, they happen an average of once every few years in the regular season. Perhaps the more common occurrences in the postseason will make them less special (though with the College Football Playoff now at 12 teams and possibly expanding further, the likelihood of such games has decreased), but they're still rare and monumental occurrences in the regular season. What makes the upcoming Ohio State vs Texas game so special, though, is that it will be the first time in history that such a game will open the season. That's right. Since college football polls started in 1936 (AP Poll; the Coaches Poll started in 1950), there has never been a No. 1 vs No. 2 game in Week 1. It remains to be seen if the AP Poll will agree with the top two (those rankings debut next Monday), but with the US LBM Coaches Poll out, it's guaranteed. Of course, late-season No. 1 vs No. 2 games mean more, because we know a lot more about the teams when those rankings are given. Preseason rankings are an educated guess, and can end up wrong--due to injuries, other issues, or just being wrong. Still, it's very cool to be part of history. Another interesting part of history? There has only been Week 2 game in college football history between the top two teams in the rankings. That game came back in 2006. The teams competing? Ohio State and Texas. (The Buckeyes won that one 24-7.)

Where Alabama ranks in 2025 preseason US LBM Coaches Poll
Only weeks away from the start of the 2025 college football season, we now know just where the Alabama Crimson Tide are ranked to begin the year. Released on Monday afternoon, Alabama was ranked as the nation's No. 8 overall team in the 2025 preseason US LBM Coaches Poll, which was the third-highest ranking of any SEC team. The Crimson Tide trailed only Texas and Georgia, who were ranked at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively. In addition to their ranking, four opponents on Alabama's 2025 regular season schedule were also ranked in the preseason Top 25, which were Georgia (4), LSU (9), South Carolina (13), and Tennessee (18). Alabama's Week 1 opponent, Florida State, was not ranked. The Crimson Tide are coming off a down 2024 season in which Alabama ended with a 9-4 overall record in year one of the Kalen DeBoer era to miss the College Football Playoff. Alabama also went 5-3 in SEC play. Where does Clemson rank in preseason US LBM Coaches Poll for 2025? Full top 25 unveiled
Only three Saturdays remain without Clemson football, and while there's plenty of hype surrounding the Tigers entering the 2025 college football season, we now have a glimpse of how high the expectations are for Dabo Swinney's team. Monday saw release of the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll. Clemson debuted just outside the top five at No. 6, one spot below No. 5 Notre Dame and one spot ahead of the Oregon Ducks at No. 7. The LSU Tigers, Clemson's opponent in the season opener on Aug. 30 at Memorial Stadium, were ranked No. 9. The Texas Longhorns were ranked No. 1 in the preseason Coaches Poll, followed by the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes at No. 2. Within the ACC, only two other teams besides Clemson were ranked: the Miami Hurricanes at No. 10 and the SMU Mustangs at No. 15. The Tigers were ranked No. 14 in last year's preseason poll. With Cade Klubnik having a stellar junior season at quarterback (3,639 passing yards, 36 touchdowns), Clemson went 10-4 overall and won their record 22nd ACC championship in school history to earn a trip to the first 12-team College Football Playoff. The Tigers were ranked No. 11 in the final Coaches Poll last season. Dabo Swinney enters his 17th full season as Clemson's head coach in 2025. The Tigers were the runaway favorite to win the ACC in the preseason conference media poll, released last week following the conclusion of ACC Kickoff.
