FC Barcelona Negotiates Another New Signing

FC Barcelona is negotiating another possible new signing according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources. The Blaugrana was expected to have completed Joan Garcia's transfer by now, and no later than Wednesday according to Catalunya Radio. Inter Milan failed to score a single goal against Paris Saint-Germain in Munich as Luis Enrique's men thumped the Italians 5-0 in the Champions League final last month. Yet Barca leaking seven strikes to Inter across two legs of a 7-6 aggregate loss in the elite European competition's last four prompted a search for a long-term goalkeeper. The Catalans didn't have to look far, and merely across the city to Espanyol's Garcia. The 24-year-old was one of last season's breakout stars in La Liga as Barca sealed a domestic treble, and triggering his $29 million (€25 million) is believed to be a mere familiarity after he reportedly agreed to cross the divide. With Garcia's arrival expected to push Marc-Andre ter Stegen out of the exit door, Barca will then move on to trying to sign a left winger once those boxes have been ticked. Mundo Deportivo reported that head coach Hansi Flick fancies a reunion with Ivan Perisic, but that won't clash with anticipated pursuits of either Manchester United's Marcus Rashford or Liverpool's Luis Diaz were a potential free transfer involving the Croatian to take place. Barca is interested in boosting personnel in its youth ranks and the reserve team as well according to SPORT, which is why there have been negotiations surrounding Cardoso Varela after his agent Andy Bara went to the Joan Gamper CT to discuss his client Garcia and the Portuguese youngster. Bara and Barca have worked together in transfers such as the sale of Mika Faye to Rennes last summer, meaning there is rapport between the two parties. While Diaz, Rashford and even Nico Williams are the top candidates for the left wing berth, Varela also plays the position at Dinamo Zagreb. That's the Croatian club where Dani Olmo decided to turn professional after leaving La Masia a decade ago, and it won't be a surprise to learn that Nico and Lamine Yamal's Euro 2024-winning teammate is also on Bara's books. Clearly not counted on by Flick, Ansu Fati appears to be living his last days as an FC Barcelona player after previously being given Lionel Messi's number 10 shirt and being talked up as the future of the club. He's expected to join AS Monaco soon, whether that's through a loan deal with an obligation or option to buy.

Utrecht pull off stunt to sign Bayern Munich prospect, medical examination already completed

Utrecht will strengthen their selection with Emirhan Demircan, as reported by Fabrizio Romano on Thursday afternoon (via VoetbalPrimeur). The Turkish talent is swapping Bayern Munich, where he was the second team's top scorer last season, for the Domstad on a free transfer. He has even undergone a medical examination. Advertisement The 20-year-old Demircan is considered a great talent at Bayern. The German-born left winger has played at youth international level for Turkey and was the top performer for Der Rekordmeister's second team in the German fourth tier last term, with six goals and five assists. These figures (in 20 games) earned him the interest of Besiktas, Rangers, Hoffenheim and, of course, Utrecht. Romano understands that Demircan's free transfer is complete. The attacker has even undergone a medical examination at De Galgenwaard, where he will sign a contract until the summer of 2028. With Utrecht, Demircan will play European football. The Domstedelingen finished fourth last season, which qualified them for the second preliminary round of the Europa League. Advertisement Although a great bit of business, Demircan is far from Utrecht's last summer signing. The club previously acquired Gjivai Zechiël, Mike Eerdhuijzen, Derry Murkin, Dani de Wit and Davy van den Berg. They are also working on a longer stay for Sébastien Haller, as was recently reported. Alexander-Arnold speaks Spanish at Real unveiling

England right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold addressed his audience in Spanish when he was presented as a Real Madrid player on Thursday. The former Liverpool player called signing for Real "a dream come true" and said it was a "huge responsibility" to play for the 15-time European champions. Advertisement Alexander-Arnold, 26, would have been able to leave Liverpool on a free transfer at the end of his contract on 30 June but Real Madrid paid the Reds a fee to release him early so that he could play for them at this month's Club World Cup. A highlights video showing Alexander-Arnold as a young player plus his goals, assists and defending for Liverpool and England was played prior to Real president Florentino Perez welcoming the right-back to the club. Alexander-Arnold, who was sat with his girlfriend, Estelle Behnke, his parents and brothers, then took to the stage and addressed the audience - which included former Real Madrid left-back Roberto Carlos - in Spanish. "Thank you so much to President Florentino Perez and Real Madrid for this opportunity," he said. Advertisement "Signing for a club like Real Madrid doesn't happen every day. It's a dream come true. I'm very happy and proud to be here. I'm eager to show the club and the fans what I can do." Alexander-Arnold said he is "ready to give everything for the team and for the Real Madrid fans", adding: "I want to show them what I can do, I want to win many titles, be champions, and continue to grow and enjoy football with the best in the world." The two-time Premier League champion was then pictured with Perez holding the Real Madrid jersey, with the shirt showing Trent instead of Alexander-Arnold and the number 12 rather than the 66 he wore at Liverpool. Real Madrid's opening Club World Cup group game is against Saudi side Al-Hilal on 18 June in Miami. Advertisement The England international has agreed a six-year deal with the La Liga side and his contract includes a 1bn euro (£840m) buy-out clause. Alexander-Arnold made 354 appearances for Liverpool - who he was with from the age of six - scoring 23 goals and providing 86 assists for the club since making his debut in 2016. He joins fellow England international Jude Bellingham at Real Madrid.
