Police in the Turks and Caicos Islands have discovered the body of a man while searching for a New York man who went missing while vacationing in the Caribbean late last month.
The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) said in a press release that it had discovered the body of a deceased man in a "state of decomposition" just after 9 a.m. on Saturday, in the Grace Bay Police District.
Additional partner agencies were notified, and the scene was secured, according to police.
But the RTCIPF made it clear that the identity of the body has not been established, adding that once the identification process is complete and next of kin is informed, officials will provide further updates.

"The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased," Acting Commissioner of Police Rodney Adams said while commenting on the discovery of the body. "We urge family members of the public to refrain from speculation and allow the investigative process to confirm the identity through official channels."

The investigation into the matter remains ongoing.
The news comes nearly a week and a half after 51-year-old Brian Tarrence, of Monroe, New York, went missing on June 25.

Tarrence was last seen leaving his condominium around 3:30 a.m. at the Paradise Inn in Grace Bay, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos, according to a missing persons flyer from the RTCIPF.
Tarrence, who recently moved from Monroe to Manhattan, arrived in Turks and Caicos with his wife of one year on June 22, and they planned to leave on June 29.
The Tarrence family's private investigator, Carl DeFazio, told Fox News Digital last week that the couple seemed to be having a normal couple of days, and he walked out of his condominium in a very safe place, and in the middle of Grace Bay Road.
DeFazio said Tarrence was on camera when he walked into town and disappeared.

"We haven't heard from him since," he said.
DeFazio said the Turks and Caicos police force is using every resource it has, including drone technology and CCTV to try and locate the 51-year-old man.
He left his rental with his phone and wallet. He was wearing a T-shirt, shorts and sneakers, DeFazio said.
The day before his disappearance, he and his wife had gone on a boat trip. That evening, his wife went to bed, and when she woke up, he was gone. She hadn't noticed he left, DeFazio said.
Turks and Caicos police are asking anyone with information about Tarrence's disappearance to contact 911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Female police officer dies after arrest for sending sensitive information

A female police officer has died suddenly in the wake of her arrest for allegedly sending sensitive information. Pc Claire Browne, 44, was found dead by colleagues after they responded to a 'concern for welfare' call at a house in Netley Abbey, Hampshire, at 11am on Monday July 7. Along with her arrest, she had also been served notice of a gross misconduct investigation into her honesty and integrity, and for allegedly using a police account for non-work purposes. She had worked for Hampshire Constabulary since 2006 and was based in Southampton. In a statement, her family said: 'It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our much-loved Claire. She was a dedicated officer who served the force and the community diligently and compassionately for 19 years. 'Claire will be sorely missed by her many friends and colleagues. Our family is devastated and we ask for understanding, kindness and privacy during this incredibly difficult time.' She was arrested as part of an investigation into the sending of sensitive police information from her work email to her personal account. It is understood that one issue surrounded claims that she had a campervan under her name to avoid any issues with child maintenance payments. PC Browne is the second serving police officer to die while under investigation by the force's Professional Standards Department, following the death of Pc Alex Hazlett-Beard, a response officer, in February. Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones has now ordered an independent review of the department. She said: 'Recent events have understandably raised questions and concerns among officers, staff, and the wider public about how the force handles internal investigations. 'While the force has appropriately referred this matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), I believe it is also necessary to examine more broadly how the Professional Standards Department operates, particularly in terms of support provided to officers under investigation and the culture of those investigations. 'To ensure transparency and fairness, I will be commissioning an independent review, led by a qualified individual from outside policing with relevant experience in assessing organisational practices and wellbeing.' In a statement, the force's acting Chief Constable Sam de Reya said: 'Everyone is extremely shocked and saddened by Claire's death, and our thoughts remain with her family, friends and colleagues. 'Claire was a well-loved and respected officer and colleague who had worked in many different departments and teams throughout her policing career. She will be missed by us all.' Hampshire Constabulary confirmed it had referred itself to the IOPC. A spokesman for the force added that Pc Browne's death was 'not being treated as suspicious, and a file is being prepared for the coroner'.

Sheriff seeks help finding assault rifle that may have fallen out of cruiser, retraces deputies' steps

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is investigating how an assault rifle went missing from — and potentially fell out of — the trunk of a squad car in South L.A. Deputies first noticed the Colt M4 assault rifle was missing from the trunk of their squad car on Saturday night sometime between 10:30 and 11 p.m., according to a statement issued by the Sheriff's Department. The weapon had been kept in "a black, hard-shelled storage case" inside the vehicle's trunk, along with five magazines, each loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition. The Sheriff's Department asked the public to help locate the assault rifle and identified the route that the deputies traveled Saturday night in the hopes of pinpointing the location of the weapon. The deputies traveled about four miles in total, heading north on Normandie Avenue near the Sheriff's Department South L.A. Station before turning westbound on Imperial Highway, northbound on Hawthorne Boulevard, then westbound on 104th Street to Inglewood Avenue. "Upon realizing the rifle was missing, personnel from the South Los Angeles Station immediately initiated a search of the station parking lot and retraced the deputies' route of travel," the Sheriff's Department said in the statement. "Surveillance footage from the area is currently being reviewed, and local law enforcement agencies have been notified of the incident." The department also said it was initiating an investigation to determine "whether processes and procedures were followed." The union representing L.A. County sheriff's deputies did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Anyone with information about the missing rifle or with footage along the deputies' route is asked to contact the Sheriff's South L.A. station at (323) 820-6700. Iconic Staten Island shop, Ralph's Famous Italian Ices, opens day after body found inside

A 41-year-old man was found dead inside Ralph's Famous Italian Ices on Staten Island — an iconic flagship store of summer-time treats, police said. Cops responded to a 911 call around 9:50 a.m. Saturday and found the man unconscious and unresponsive inside the Port Richmond shop, authorities said. EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene. The shop remained closed for the rest of Saturday before reopening at noon Sunday, according to a social media post by the shop. The man's body was found in a storage room, a police source said. His identity has not been released as family waits to be notified. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is investigating the cause of death. No criminality is suspected, according to police.
