olkata: Passengers booked on a late-night IndiGo flight to Delhi on Tuesday were left waiting at the airport for four and a half hours, before they could fly out a little after 3 am.
While the airline didn't issue any clear clarification either to passengers or to TOI, despite the newspaper reaching out to them multiple times, airport sources said the delay was due to a conglomeration of issues ranging from bad weather in Delhi, which led to the delayed arrival of a flight from there, to a crew change in Kolkata.
This was the fourth consecutive day when flyers at Kolkata had to wait for hours, either due to technical glitches or operational reasons.
IndiGo flight 6E 2415 was scheduled to fly to Delhi at 10.30 pm with nearly full capacity. However, as passengers waited near gate 103, there was no sign of the flight, and ground staff were clueless about the time of departure. As it went past midnight, passengers lost their cool, and many started arguments with the ground staff, demanding an explanation. According to airport sources, the ground staff at the gate had to call for help from other staffers, as well as CISF personnel, to ensure the situation didn't go out of control.

"Indigo 'On time Scheme' terribly failed today i.e., July 18, 2025. Flight scheduled to take off at 10.30 pm, from Kolkata to Delhi on July 17, 2025, 6E 2415 is still stationed at 1.31 am in Kolkata airport. No proper information given when aircraft will take off to Delhi from Kolkata," wrote passenger Paul Kalai, an advocate.
Airport sources said the flight left Kolkata at 3.01 am on Wednesday and reached Delhi at 5.18 am, four hours and 18 minutes behind schedule.
Ajeet Singh, a flyer travelling from Delhi to Kolkata, earlier posted on X: "Indigo 6E 6517 Delhi to Kolkata delayed by 1.30 hrs due to technical fault. Flight was scheduled at 7.40 pm and now it's 9 pm, but still no final departure time. No facilities or drinking water, no announcement, no information. It's like a train." IndiGo replied to Singh's post with: "We sincerely regret the delay and all the inconvenience caused.
As checked, the flight is delayed due to operational reasons. We understand that delays can be concerning and bothersome. Further, for any real-time assistance, please reach out to our airport team. We look forward to your kind understanding."
The flight left Delhi at 10.12 pm and reached Kolkata at 12.25 am on Wednesday.

J-K students evacuated from Iran flag poor bus conditions during journey back home; CM Omar Abdullah responds; promises deluxe coaches

NEW DELHI: Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah has assured students evacuated from Iran that deluxe buses will be arranged for their travel from Delhi to J&K following complaints about the poor quality of buses initially provided. Around 110 Indian nationals, including 90 students from Jammu and Kashmir, were evacuated from conflict-affected Iran on Wednesday. The group was first taken to Armenia, then flown to Doha, before arriving in Delhi early on Thursday. Several students expressed their gratitude to the Indian government for the evacuation, but criticised the buses arranged by the Jammu and Kashmir administration for the final leg of their journey. Some described the transport as uncomfortable and ill-suited after days of travel. In a post on social media platform X, the chief minister's office said: 'The Chief Minister has taken note of the request of the students evacuated from Iran regarding the quality of buses arranged to transport them from Delhi to J&K.' The statement added that the Resident Commissioner had been tasked with coordinating with the Jammu & Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) to ensure 'proper deluxe buses' are provided. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 임플란트 29만원 이벤트 임플란트 더 알아보기 Undo Abdullah also shared the post from his official handle, signalling a personal commitment to addressing the concerns. The evacuation was carried out as part of India's broader efforts to bring back citizens stranded in Iran due to the escalating conflict.

US resumes visas for foreign students but demands access to social media accounts

The U.S. State Department said Wednesday it is restarting the suspended process for foreigners applying for student visas but all applicants will now be required to unlock their social media accounts for government review. The department said consular officers will be on the lookout for posts and messages that could be deemed hostile to the United States, its government, culture, institutions or founding principles. In a notice made public Wednesday, the department said it had rescinded its May suspension of student visa processing but said new applicants who refuse to set their social media accounts to "public" and allow them to be reviewed may be rejected. It said a refusal to do so could be a sign they are trying to evade the requirement or hide their online activity. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like IELTS Cheat Sheet: Grab Your Free Tips! (Join our ETNRI WhatsApp channel for all the latest updates) Students around the world have been waiting anxiously for U.S. consulates to reopen appointments for visa interviews, as the window left to book their travel and make housing arrangements narrows ahead of the start of the school year. Live Events On Wednesday afternoon, a 27-year-old Ph.D. student in Toronto was able to secure an appointment for a visa interview next week. The student, a Chinese national, hopes to travel to the U.S. for a research internship that would start in late July. "I'm really relieved," said the student, who spoke on condition of being identified only by his surname, Chen, because he was concerned about being targeted. "I've been refreshing the website couple of times every day." Students from China, India, Mexico and the Philippines have posted on social media sites that they have been monitoring visa booking websites and closely watching press briefings of the State Department to get any indication of when appointment scheduling might resume. In reopening the visa process, the State Department also told consulates to prioritize students hoping to enroll at colleges where foreigners make up less than 15% of the student body, a U.S. official familiar with the matter said. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to detail information that has not been made public. Foreign students make up more than 15% of the total student body at almost 200 U.S. universities, according to an Associated Press analysis of federal education data from 2023. Most are private universities, including all eight Ivy League schools. But that criteria also includes 26 public universities, including the University of Illinois and Pennsylvania State University. Looking only at undergraduate students, foreign students make up more than 15% of the population at about 100 universities, almost all of them private. International students in the U.S. have been facing increased scrutiny on several fronts. In the spring, the Trump administration revoked permission to study in the U.S. for thousands of students, including some involved only in traffic offenses, before abruptly reversing course. The government also expanded the grounds on which foreign students can have their legal status terminated. As part of a pressure campaign targeting Harvard University , the Trump administration has moved to block foreign students from attending the Ivy League school, which counts on international students for tuition dollars and a quarter of its enrollment. Trump has said Harvard should cap its foreign enrollment at 15%. This latest move to vet students' social media, the State Department said Wednesday, "will ensure we are properly screening every single person attempting to visit our country." In internal guidance sent to consular officers, the department said they should be looking for "any indications of hostility toward the citizens, culture, government, institutions, or founding principles of the United States." Jameel Jaffer, executive director at the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University, said the new policy evokes the ideological vetting of the Cold War, when prominent artists and intellectuals were excluded from the U.S. "This policy makes a censor of every consular officer, and it will inevitably chill legitimate political speech both inside and outside the United States," Jaffer said. The Trump administration also has called for 36 countries to commit to improving vetting of travelers or face a ban on their citizens visiting the United States. A weekend diplomatic cable sent by the State Department says the countries have 60 days to address U.S. concerns or risk being added to a travel ban that now includes 12 nations.
