Weather, crew change lead to 4.5-hour wait at airport

olkata: Passengers booked on a late-night IndiGo flight to Delhi on Tuesday were left waiting at the airport for four and a half hours, before they could fly out a little after 3 am.
While the airline didn't issue any clear clarification either to passengers or to TOI, despite the newspaper reaching out to them multiple times, airport sources said the delay was due to a conglomeration of issues ranging from bad weather in Delhi, which led to the delayed arrival of a flight from there, to a crew change in Kolkata.
This was the fourth consecutive day when flyers at Kolkata had to wait for hours, either due to technical glitches or operational reasons.
IndiGo flight 6E 2415 was scheduled to fly to Delhi at 10.30 pm with nearly full capacity. However, as passengers waited near gate 103, there was no sign of the flight, and ground staff were clueless about the time of departure. As it went past midnight, passengers lost their cool, and many started arguments with the ground staff, demanding an explanation. According to airport sources, the ground staff at the gate had to call for help from other staffers, as well as CISF personnel, to ensure the situation didn't go out of control.

"Indigo 'On time Scheme' terribly failed today i.e., July 18, 2025. Flight scheduled to take off at 10.30 pm, from Kolkata to Delhi on July 17, 2025, 6E 2415 is still stationed at 1.31 am in Kolkata airport. No proper information given when aircraft will take off to Delhi from Kolkata," wrote passenger Paul Kalai, an advocate.
Airport sources said the flight left Kolkata at 3.01 am on Wednesday and reached Delhi at 5.18 am, four hours and 18 minutes behind schedule.
Ajeet Singh, a flyer travelling from Delhi to Kolkata, earlier posted on X: "Indigo 6E 6517 Delhi to Kolkata delayed by 1.30 hrs due to technical fault. Flight was scheduled at 7.40 pm and now it's 9 pm, but still no final departure time. No facilities or drinking water, no announcement, no information. It's like a train." IndiGo replied to Singh's post with: "We sincerely regret the delay and all the inconvenience caused.
As checked, the flight is delayed due to operational reasons. We understand that delays can be concerning and bothersome. Further, for any real-time assistance, please reach out to our airport team. We look forward to your kind understanding."
The flight left Delhi at 10.12 pm and reached Kolkata at 12.25 am on Wednesday.
