Today marks Liverpool's 25th appearance in the Community Shield.
The current Premier League champions have won 11 outright, shared the trophy five times and lost eight.
Only one club – Manchester United (31) – have played in the fixture more. August 10, 2025 1:15 pm Oliver Glasner: No-one likes to play against us
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner said ahead of the match: 'We asked to play the Community Shield at Anfield – because we are unbeaten there! But also we are unbeaten at Wembley, so that's why we accepted it in the end!
'I'm always entering the games with the confidence and the belief that we can win it. We showed it here [in South London], we showed it against Arsenal, we showed it against City, against Villa, the last game against Liverpool…
'Yes, we know they are a great team, but we know we are a great team as well. We had made a meeting with the players, and we know if we perform at our top level, I think no-one really likes to play against us.' August 10, 2025 1:00 pm Arne Slot wary of 'very good' Crystal Palace side
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of today's Community Shield match, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot said: 'We have a chance to win something [at] the beginning of the season.
'Unfortunately, we face a very good Crystal Palace that have been very difficult to win against for us, because we played 1-1 against them in the last game of the season.
'They showed in the last final – and even in the semi-final, by the way, as well – how difficult it is to win a one-off game [against] them. I think most of the players that they have are still there, so even more reason to know what a difficult team it is to play against.' August 10, 2025 12:31 pm Is the Community Shield on TV?

Gianluigi Donnarumma's three Premier League transfer options as 'terms agreed' after PSG exit

Gianluigi Donnarumma is leaving Paris Saint-Germain and has already held talks over joining one Premier League side in the summer transfer window, with two others interested Gianluigi Donnarumma has put Premier League sides on red alert after announcing his departure from Paris Saint-Germain. ‌ Donnarumma has been told he doesn't have a future at PSG by manager Luis Enrique and has said goodbye in a fiery statement on Instagram. "Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the team's success,' he said. "I am disappointed and disheartened.' ‌ Earlier in the day, Enrique had confirmed that Donnarumma had been dropped from the squad for the Super Cup against Tottenham on Wednesday night. 'Donnarumma is out of the squad as it's my own decision. I am 100 per cent responsible," said Enrique. ‌ 'I want a different kind of goalkeeper and I made this decision. Gigio is one of the best goalkeepers in the whole world. The life of a top-level footballer, and the same goes for us coaches, is this: it wasn't an easy decision but I take full responsibility for it.' Donnarumma is still only 26 years old and, as a European champion with Italy in 2021 and a Champions League winner with PSG in May, the goalkeeper shouldn't be short of suitors. There is still ample time until the summer transfer window closes on September 1, but where could he end up? Here Mirror Football takes a look over the Premier League options. Manchester City The most recent noises have been coming out of the Etihad, where Pep Guardiola is said to have a soft spot for Donnarumma. There has been a lot of movement in the goalkeeping department at City this summer, with rumours of a possible departure for Ederson to Galatasaray followed by the club re-signing James Trafford for £31m from Burnley. Late on Tuesday night came news, via L'Equipe, that Donnarumma had agreed personal terms with City. The Italy international is understood to be very keen on a move to City, who will now have to negotiate a fee with PSG. ‌ By making their desire to offload Donnarumma public and promote new keeper Lucas Chevalier, PSG have backed themselves into a corner, yet reportedly value him at £43million. Donnarumma's contract expires in less than a year so City will surely try to negotiate that fee downwards. His arrival would surely mean the end to Ederson's eight-year stay at the club and would mean Trafford once again taking a backseat at his boyhood club. Manchester United Question marks over the form of Andre Onana at United have been a constant almost ever since his arrival from Ajax – and things came to a head last season. Ruben Amorim was forced to take Onana out of the firing line after a mistake-filled performance against Lyon in the Europa League, but his replacement Altay Bayindir was no better. ‌ United reportedly contacted Aston Villa to enquire about the availability of Emi Martinez earlier this summer, while they have also been linked with Royal Antwerp's Senne Lammens. Donnarumma has always appeared to be an ambitious target, given United's lack of European football and 15th-placed finish last season. The club have distanced themselves from a move for him, which would seem unlikely anyway. One problem is United's lack of available funds. Donnarumma fell out with PSG after demanding a bumper new contract and United would need to offload some of their unwanted players before adding to their £200m summer spending spree. Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho are their most valuable assets in that regard. ‌ Chelsea Robert Sanchez has never convinced as Chelsea goalkeeper, who made an attempt to sign Mike Maignan earlier this summer. The Blues have sold Djordje Petrovic to Bournemouth for £25m, sent Kepa Arrizabalaga to Arsenal for £5m and let Marcus Bettinelli go to City. They still have Filip Jorgensen and Mike Penders on their books, with the latter highly-rated and currently on loan at Strasbourg for the season. Chelsea are reportedly content with their options – and the move for Maignan was an opportunistic one, rather than a planned one. But the chance to sign Donnarumma, who would clearly be an upgrade on the error-prone Sanchez, might change their minds. Sanchez improved at the end of last season and fits Enzo Maresca's ethos of playing out from the back, yet will always have a blunder in him. Man Utd ‘hand Antony ultimatum to accept transfer offer this week or rot in stands as Real Betis hold out for loan deal'

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly handed Antony an ultimatum as they try and move the Brazilian on this summer. Antony is no longer part of the plans at Old Trafford after failing to impress following his £86million move from Ajax in 2022. 3 3 His failings in Manchester saw him shipped out on loan to Real Betis for the second half of last season, where he returned to form as one of their star players. Since then, Betis have been keen to re-sign the tricky winger, but don't appear to have the funds to make a permanent transfer happen at United's asking price. Reports in Spain claim that Antony is keen to move back to Betis too, but that the La Liga club have only discussed the idea of a loan switch rather than a permanent transfer. According to Spanish outlet Al Final de la Palmera, that has led Man Utd to hand Antony an ultimatum in order to prevent him waiting until the end of the window to force through a loan. The Red Devils, who would prefer a permanent sale, are said to have told Antony he must accept one of the permanent offers they have received from elsewhere before the Premier League starts this weekend or face sitting on the bench until January. Antony has been linked with a host of clubs this summer, including a switch to reunite with Erik ten Hag at Bayer Leverkusen in Germany. The situation appears to be similar to that surrounding fellow wantaway winger Alejandro Garnacho. The 21-year-old has been frozen out by Ruben Amorim as he tries to force through a move to Prem rivals Chelsea. And Fabrizio Romano has revealed Garnacho is prepared to stay at Old Trafford and not play if he does not get his desired move. 'Bring him back' - Antony needs another chance at Man Utd under Ruben Amorim, says club legend He told DAZN: "The message coming from the player is, Chelsea or nothing. "Chelsea or I stay here and I don't play football for the next six or 12 months." He adds Chelsea have stepped up talks for Garnacho, having already agreed personal terms. United initially set an asking price of £70million for the Argentina international. But despite interest from Chelsea and Napoli no bid has been forthcoming, leading the Red Devils to drop their price to £50m. 3
