Taylor Swift Curates Spotify Playlist Ahead of New LP ‘The Life of a Showgirl'

Yahoo4 days ago
Shortly after Taylor Swift confirmed her 12th album, The Life of a Showgirl, fans began to spot mysterious billboards in New York City and Nashville. The billboards directed listeners to a brand new Spotify playlist titled 'And, baby, that's show business for you.'
Curated by Swift herself, the playlist features 22 of Swift's songs from prior releases, opening with '22' and concluding with 'Wonderland.' Curiously, all the songs featured were produced by Max Martin and Shellback, who worked on Red, 1989, and Reputation. Although Swift has not confirmed many details about The Life of a Showgirl, many Swifties are predicting that the production duo is back on board this time around.

Martin and Shellback have been responsible some of Swift's biggest hits, including 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,' 'Bad Blood,' and 'Shake It Off.' The producers notably helped Swift to transition from country to pop music on Red, her fourth album, which was released in 2012. More recently, Swift has been collaborating with Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner, including on last year's The Tortured Poets Department.
Early this morning, Swift announced her upcoming 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, officially entering her next musical era. The singer made the announcement in a teaser for the New Heights podcast. In the short clip, Swift sits next to her boyfriend and podcast host Travis Kelce as she opens up a mint green case with her initials on it in orange lettering. 'I wanted to show you something,' she says to his brother, Jason Kelce. 'This is my brand new album, The Life of a Showgirl.' The album cover is blurred out in the clip and is set to be unveiled during the actual podcast.
While an official release date for the album hasn't been announced, signs point to a fall release date. On Swift's website, fans preordering the vinyl are assured it will 'ship before 10/13/25,' while noting, 'this is not the release date.'
Swift's episode of the New Heights podcast will debut on Wednesday. Swifties kicked into investigation mode on Monday morning when New Heights first began teasing the special guest appearance, which turned out to be the singer herself.

Culture Digest: The best things to do, hear, see or watch in Europe this week

Last week, Taylor Swift announced her upcoming album 'The Life of a Showgirl', because she's nothing if not prolific! The news has (of course) consumed online discourse, with fans excited - but also a little sceptical. As Euronews Culture writer (and dedicated Swifty) Sarah Miansoni writes: "I had barely had any time to recover from Swift's last album, the gargantuan 'The Tortured Poets Department', and from the equally massive Eras Tour, and it was already time to dive into a new era? What if I wasn't ready for it?" We've still got a while to wait for its release on 3 October, and in the meantime - before more companies get in on the Swift marketing action and August slips away without an official Song of the Summer - there's plenty else to look forward to. From a fascinating exhibition exploring patient's dreams and nightmares at England's oldest psychiatric hospital, to Julia Ducournau's highly-anticipated new body horror 'Alpha', and a second season of James Gunn's Peacemaker - here are this week's highlights. Exhibitions Between Sleeping and Waking: Hospital Dreams and Visions Where: Bethlem Museum of the Mind (London, UK) When: Until 22 November 2025 England's oldest psychiatric hospital is exhibiting never-before-displayed creations by its patients. First opened in 1403, Bethlem Royal Hospital has become a site of enduring fascination, famously inspiring the 1946 horror film Bedlam starring Boris Karloff. Its dark history has become a lens through which people continue to examine societal perceptions of mental health - and the blurred lines between reality and illusions. It's this idea of a psychological limbo state that dominates 'Sleeping and Waking', with an immersive installation by artist Kate McDonnell at its heart; capturing visions of a disconnected mind. Haunting and captivating, visitors will find themselves transported to other worlds that feel both far removed, and resonant. Anne Geddes: Until Now Where: Art 28, Neues Kunstmuseum Tübingen (Tübingen, Germany) When: Until 21 September With her sweet and whimsical images of babies dressed as sunflowers and bumblebees, Australian photographer Anne Geddes' work became a hallmark of the '90s and early '00s. Used in cards, books and calendars, they're instantly recognisable to those that grew up with them. It's about time, then, that she had her first retrospective. Titled after her book of the same name, Until Now showcases 150 of Geddes images at the New Art Museum in Tübingen, including the identical triplets slumbering in a man's hands - still one of her most iconic. Saved Treasures of Gaza Where: The Institut du Monde Arabe (Paris, France) When: Until 2 November 2025 Documenting over 5,000 years of Gaza's cultural and archeological history, 'Saved Treasures of Gaza' is a powerful reminder of what has been and what's at stake for a country currently facing war and famine. From the small marble statue of a goddess, to the astonishing Abu Baraqeh mosaic, most of the 130 masterpieces on show have been kept in storage at the Geneva Museum of Art and History until now, unable to be returned to Gaza due to the unsafe conditions. Safely preserved, they now act as vessels for Palestine's richly storied identity - a way to connect people to the past, and reinforce hope for the future. Bonus highlight: To celebrate the 250th birthday of the celebrated 'Pride and Prejudice' author, Jane Austen's House is hosting 'Austenmania!' until 4 January 2026 (Hampshire, UK). Related Euronews Culture's Film of the Week: 'Together' - The ultimate date movie? Movies Alpha Where: French cinemas When: 20 August After winning the Palme d'or in 2021 for her body horror triumph Titane, anticipation has been - excuse the pun - revving up for Julia Ducournau's third feature. Having premiered at this year's Cannes Film Festival, Alpha is set amidst the '80s AIDS epidemic, following a young girl (Alia Bhatt) who is feared to have contracted the disease after getting a tattoo. Infused with the gnawing paranoia and anxiety that's become a trademark of Ducournau's works, it's proven divisive with critics so far - but is guaranteed to get under your skin. Stay tuned for our full review on Friday. Bonus highlight: Ari Aster's neo-Western satire Eddington arrives in UK cinemas on the 22 August, with a staggered release across other European countries to follow. Read our review here. And if you haven't caught up on two of this summer's biggest horror hits, Weapons and Together are still in cinemas. Don't miss out. TV series Peacemaker Season 2 Where: Sky Max and NOW When: 22 August Is this a James Gunn summer? Fresh off his box office success with Superman, the filmmaker and co-CEO of DC Studios has gifted us a second series of his hit show Peacemaker. Part of Gunn's wider vision for rebooting the DC Universe, it's a continuation of the story of Christopher Smith (John Cena), a special-trained operative who will do anything - and kill anyone - in his quest for peace. We can expect cameos from other DC characters, including Superman and Hawkgirl, as the new era of DC ramps up its expansion. Bonus highlight: The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, a miniseries based on the story of Knox's wrongful conviction in 2007, streams from 20 August (Disney+). Music Wolf Alice: The Clearing When: 22 August Four long years since their last album, 'Blue Weekend', British alt-rock band Wolf Alice are returning with a highly-anticipated fourth studio release. From the psychedelic shimmers of 'White Horses' to the soothing melodrama of 'The Sofa', its singles so far suggest we're in for a collection that's soulful and nostalgic, textured with 70s influences like George Harrison, while still grounded in contemporary reflections. Bonus highlight: Canadian folk musician Kathleen Edwards returns with her sixth studio album, 'Billionaire', on 22 August.

Ex-Nashville cop enters new plea after being arrested for groping OnlyFans star's breasts during mock traffic stop

The ex-Tennessee cop arrested for groping an OnlyFans model's breast during a mock traffic stop for a raunchy x-rated promotional video while on duty entered a new plea to escape jail time. Former Nashville police officer Sean Herman pleaded no contest to felony official misconduct in Nashville's criminal court on Thursday, following his arrest in 2024. As a result of his new plea, Herman, 35, was sentenced to a year of supervised probation. MNPD He was also granted judicial diversion, meaning that if eligible defendants successfully complete probation as ordered, their cases may be dismissed and the charges cleared from their record. The 35-year-old was fired from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department in May 2024 after detectives with the Specialized Investigations Division discovered that Herman was the officer wearing his uniform in the X-rated video produced by local OnlyFans star Jordin. She is then seen grabbing his crotch as the officer touches her breasts. While the officer cannot be seen from the shoulders up, part of his police patch on his arm was briefly exposed as he reached for the OnlyFans creator's breast, revealing that he worked for the Nashville department. The investigation determined the video was created on April 26 in a warehouse parking lot while Herman was on duty as a patrol officer. He was later released on a $3,000 bond. He was with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department for three years before he was canned. 'That was one of the most outrageous, disrespectful acts that a person here could do and, by disrespectful, I mean to all the MNPD employees and this agency,' the department said at the time. Advertisement A state board indefinitely suspended Herman's certification to be a law enforcement officer in Tennessee in August 2024, meaning he could argue for reinstatement once the criminal case is closed. Jordin told Law & Crime in March that the video wasn't shot for her content on OnlyFans, but rather for promotional purposes to share on X and increase 'clicks.' The content creator, who appeared alongside her husband, identified as 'hubs,' stated that she did not know Herman before the video and that he had responded to a post on a Reddit page about potentially filming a full video in the future. 3 The scandalous skit shows Jordin after she is 'pulled over,' exposing her breast and then inviting the officer to grope her in a bid to avoid a ticket. via Levi Ismail/NewsChannel5 The online interaction evolved into the couple hatching the idea for a fake traffic stop promotional clip. They said they ran the idea by Herman, who agreed to participate, and shot the video before his shift started. Jordin said that after Herman was charged for his role in the x-rated skit, she tried to 'stay out of it,' since by then she was no longer in communication with the ex-officer. However, she did say she took the video down once she realized the backlash Herman was facing. Advertisement While Herman was fired and arrested, Jordin said her subscription numbers skyrocketed on her OnlyFans account following the coverage the story received. In another interview with OutKick back in May 2024, Jordin blamed local media for bringing the clip to the attention of law enforcement. 'I'm under the impression that the local media turned it in to the department. I do believe that it was from my Twitter. The video was sitting at 2 million views at that point and had been retweeted 5,500 times, so it's safe to assume that was the culprit,' she said. As for Herman, she added that he was 'a very respectful guy, very polite, and wasn't an officer that would've fit a profile that many are lumping him into.' with Post wires.

Conservatives mock Comey over Taylor Swift video

Conservatives are mocking former FBI Director James Comey over a post he made on his Substack on Sunday in which he discussed his admiration for pop superstar Taylor Swift. The post features a video of Comey calling Swift 'a truly inspirational public figure' and noting her recent appearance on NFL stars' Jason and Travis Kelce's podcast 'New Heights.' 'Taylor Swift and I go way back. I went to my first concert of hers 15 years ago. I've been to a second and I have helped financially support the attendance of a lot of family members and others. I'm in a family's Swiftie group chat. I know all her music, and I listen to it in my headphones when I cut the grass,' Comey said in the video. In response to Comey's video, conservative personality Benny Johnson said that 'A new James Comey hostage video just dropped.' 'This time he calls himself a 'Swiftie' and says Taylor Swift helps him cope with Donald Trump. You really can't make this up,' Johnson added in a Sunday post on the social platform X. In the Comey video, the former FBI director also states that 'we need to stand up to jerks and defend what matters, but I think we have to try to do that without becoming like them, which is what makes me think about Taylor Swift.' 'She's made clear that she sees Donald Trump for what he is, and last year, she urged Americans not to make the serious mistake of electing him,' Comey added. 'Of course, we're now living with the consequences of that mistake, but while our elderly makeup- covered president is posting about whether Taylor Swift is still hot and declaring that he can't stand her, what's she doing? Living her best life.' Conservative commentator Dinesh D'Souza also said on X Sunday that Comey was attempting 'now to come across as a normal guy, a Taylor Swift fan, and a champion of civility and decorum' in the wake of 'using his power for years to entrap Trump, Flynn and others.' The Hill has reached out to a representative for Comey and the White House for comment. Comey was fired as FBI director by Trump during his first term, and the two have feuded for years. Earlier this year, Comey made waves when he posted an image of shells on a seashore spelling out '86 47.' He deleted the post after criticism, saying he did not recognize it as something that could be seen as promoting violence toward the president. Comey's daughter, Maureen Comey, was fired in July from her job as a prosecutor for the U.S. attorney's office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY). The firing was largely seen as politically motivated given Trump's feelings for Comey and his desire for loyalists throughout his administration. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
