Stabbing at Arizona high school leaves one student dead as campus placed on lockdown
Police and paramedics raced to Maryvale High School just before 11 a.m. after reports of a violent altercation inside a classroom.
According to investigators, the fight broke out between two male students. Both were rushed to hospital - one with life-threatening stab wounds who later died, and the other with less serious injuries.
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne called the death 'a terrible tragedy,' adding: 'Schools must be safe places.'
The Phoenix Union High School District confirmed there was an 'incident' and placed the campus on lockdown as officers secured the area.
Officials stressed that there is no ongoing threat and all other students and staff are safe.
Parents have been notified and instructed to follow the school's guidance on releasing students from campus.
In a statement, the Arizona Department of Education confirmed the student's death, while Phoenix police said detectives are investigating what led up to the stabbing.
Horne praised the school safety officer for rushing in to help: 'The on-campus school safety officer responded immediately, rendered aid to the student and did his job well. This terrible incident reinforces my commitment to doing everything possible to make schools safe.'
Phoenix City Councilwoman Betty Guardado also issued a statement Tuesday afternoon, calling the stabbing heartbreaking and urging the community to come together in support of students and families.

Ice cream man stabbed to death in north-west London named by police
An ice cream seller who was stabbed to death in north-west London has been named by the Metropolitan Police as 41-year-old Shazad Khan. Mr Khan was pronounced dead at the scene after officers responded to reports of an altercation in Monks Park in Wembley at 6.10pm on Tuesday. His family have been informed and a murder investigation was launched, the Met said. A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in the early hours of Wednesday, while a 31-year-old woman was also arrested at the scene for conspiracy to murder, the force said. Both individuals remain in custody. Local residents told the PA news agency that Mr Khan was well known in the area for selling ice creams in a van. Asim Mahmood Butt, 39, who lives in nearby Tokyngton Avenue, said he was childhood friends with the victim. Speaking at the scene, he said: 'I got a call from one of my cousins. 'This guy, we know him – he's a famous ice cream guy. He got stabbed yesterday. 'I came here and his body was still here, and police had cordoned off the area. 'We don't know the reason why, but all that we know is that a guy with a grey hoodie stabbed him eight times. That's what I've been told. 'I know his brothers as well – they're all local. We all used to play cricket and football here in Monks Park. 'He started (selling) ice cream about a year ago.' Mr Butt said the victim was married and had a young daughter. The victim's ice cream van, which had been parked on the road at the time of the incident, was well known locally for having a large teddy bear, the witness added. A second witness, who did not want to be named, said the ice cream van was towed away from the scene in the early hours of Wednesday morning. A blue forensics tent and a number of Met officers could be seen inside a police cordon in Monks Park on Wednesday afternoon. Removal vehicles also took away a separate white van and blue car. Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams, local policing commander for north-west London, said: 'Our thoughts remain with Shazad's family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time. 'This incident will rightly cause concern across the community, but intelligence at this stage leads us to believe there is no wider threat to the public. 'Detectives are conducting a thorough and fast-paced investigation, and locals can expect to see an uptick in police presence in the area. 'Anyone with any information – particularly dashcam or doorbell footage from the time of the incident – is urged to speak to us as a matter of urgency.'

Man charged with killing an 'American Idol' exec and husband will undergo mental evaluation
A man charged with fatally shooting an 'American Idol' music supervisor and her husband in their Los Angeles home will undergo mental evaluation to determine whether he's fit to stand trial, a judge ruled Wednesday. Raymond Boodarian, 22, was set to be arraigned in a courthouse in Los Angeles but did not enter a plea. A judge suspended the criminal proceedings against him while a psychiatrist examines him to determine his competency. He's charged with two counts of murder in the killing of longtime 'American Idol' producer Robin Kaye and her husband Thomas Deluca, both 70, who were shot when they came home unexpectedly during a burglary on July 10. A judge at a court that specializes in mental health will consider the evaluation and decide whether Boodarian will proceed toward trial or be placed in a state hospital. Boodarian stood behind a window in a custody area of the courtroom, and appeared to try to remain out of sight. His attorney declined comment, and the district attorney's office had no immediate comment. Boodarian will undergo the same evaluation in the same small courthouse on Hollywood Boulevard where a man charged with stalking Jennifer Aniston and driving into the front gate of her home was recently found to be not competent to go to trial. Police said they responded to a 911 call about a burglary at the home of Kaye and Deluca in the Encino neighborhood of Los Angeles. Police said they found no sign of forced entry or other trouble and left. Four days later the couple's bodies were found, shot to death, when officers carried out a welfare check at the home. Boodarian was arrested the following day. District Attorney Nathan Hochman later said in a community meeting that investigators believe the couple arrived home unexpectedly while Boodarian was burglarizing it. He shot them with their own gun and later called 911 himself, Hochman said. Kaye had been with 'American Idol' for more than 15 years and was working on the upcoming season of the hit singing competition TV series at the time of her death. She had also worked in the music departments of several other productions, including 'The Singing Bee,' 'Hollywood Game Night,' 'Lip Sync Battle,' and several Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants.

I do not know why. 'Do I question his general physician signing off on his death certificate, given his background which is available for anyone to see via a simple Google search? You can answer that one for yourself. 'I have to trust that my brother is doing his best to get answers. At the end of the day, answers would be great, but none of it brings my dad back.
