UN chief welcomes new Libyan security committee
The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has welcomed the formation of a new security and human rights committee in Libya, calling it a 'promising sign' of progress toward long-term stability.
Speaking at a meeting withe Libya's Presidential Council's Head Mohamed Menfi in the French city of Nice, on the sidelines of the UN Ocean Conference, Guterres expressed strong support for the initiative, which aims to lay the groundwork for renewed electoral efforts.
The Secretary-General emphasised the importance of continued coordination between the UN and the Presidential Council, and highlighted the need for a 'constructive and unified environment' to enable Libyans to move toward a democratic future.
Earlier, Menfi issued a decree forming the temporary security and military arrangements committee in the capital. The move followed an agreement with Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah on joint security and military arrangements for Tripoli.

EU condemns truce violations in Tripoli over Eid holiday
The European Union delegation and the diplomatic missions of EU member states in Libya have condemned recent violations of the ceasefire in Tripoli during the Eid al-Adha holiday.
