I tried The Titanic Breakfast at the Harbour Hub Café

Rhyl Journal3 days ago
I was walking along the promenade in Rhyl recently looking for somewhere for a spot of breakfast.
On approaching the pedestrian swing bridge I spotted the Harbour Hub Cafe, perched on the dock with the sea beyond.

It's a place I had wanted to try so I crossed the bridge and went inside.
The Harbour Hub Cafe
The Harbour Hub Cafe, technically in Kinmel Bay I believe, is a welcoming place, with a timeless quality. It was easy to reminisce about childhood visits to the seaside.
Most of the breakfast menu items all have a maritime theme, although the most popular mode of transport in evidence at the cafe was definitely the bicycle.
Options include the Harbour Master's, Captain's and Fisherman's breakfast. The Captain's Breakfast is the vegetarian options, which, with a few tweaks on request, I'm sure could be made vegan.
The Harbour Hub Cafe - outside seating
I, however, had to embark on The Titanic Breakfast - two bacon, two sausages, two fried eggs, two hash browns, black pudding, baked beans. It also comes with two slices of toast and choice of tea or coffee. But not an iceberg lettuce in sight.
The Harbour Hub Cafe - Cup of tea
It was a pleasant surprise that the breakfast came with a hot drink. The price was £11.50, which I felt was reasonable. The smaller Fisherman's Breakfast is a more budget-friendly £5.50.
ROOM FOR MORE?
Lunch at Tu Mundo on Prestatyn's High Street
This might be my favourite restaurant in North Wales!
I enjoyed breakfast at what might be Rhyl's friendliest cafe
The breakfast was in a word Titanic, too big to fail even. Unlike the door that kept Kate Winslett afloat at the end of the eponymous movie, there was no spare room at all on the square plate that barely contained the large fry up.
The Harbour Hub Cafe - The Titnanic Breakfast
All of the items were well-cooked. The sausages were thin, but there was plenty of meat on the plate.
I prefer my eggs over easy to sunny side up, but I imagine the friendly staff would have done this if I'd thought to ask.
The Harbour Hub Cafe - Cheeky breakfast sandwich
The toast was a great addition, and I couldn't resist making a breakfast sandwich.
There are plenty of outside tables if you want to take your chances with the seagulls.
It is clearly a popular spot with cyclists, located as it is on the Coastal Path, and there were several groups stopping off to refuel themselves when I visited.
The Harbour Hub Cafe - Ice cream for dogs is available
It is also dog friendly, inside and out, with treats and water bowls available - or you can even buy your pooch an ice cream!
The Harbour Hub Cafe has a food hygiene rating of five, the maximum, and was last inspected in June this year.
On Tripadvisor, it has an average rating of 4.2 out of five based on 255 reviews.
Myra W: "Lovely little place. Perfect setting. Food was lovely. Staff were friendly. I hope to visit again very soon. Thank you so much."
The Harbour Hub Cafe
Kate D: "Great little cafe and only a short walk from our site. Our boys love scootering up along the coastal path for an ice cream here.
"The staff here are lovely, and you are always greeted with a smile. Great views of the harbour."
The Harbour Hub Cafe - menus
Paul M: "The Hub is a firm favourite of ours for Sunday breakfast.
"The staff are friendly and helpful; the food is freshly cooked and hot when served. The staff are extremely efficient, and tables are cleared and cleaned immediately.
"The views of the sea and hills make it a pleasant place to sit and enjoy the food."
I would concur with the above reviews. I will definitely consider visiting again, and, I think, due to its location, it would be a great place to take friends with children.

Scotland's best tourist experiences named by TripAdvisor including iconic castle and stadium tours

Scotland has earned multiple spots in TripAdvisor's 2025 Best of the Best list, which highlights top-rated tours and attractions worldwide Scotland is a popular destination for tourists across the globe. There is lots for visitors to do, from taking in our bustling cities to heading to see some of our beautiful landscapes. And the country has punched above its weight in a list of the best things to do in the UK, securing eight places in the TripAdvisor top 20. The tourism site's Travellers' Choice Awards named its top experiences in the UK as part of its Best of the Best Things to Do. The annual accolades celebrate the highest-rated experiences, excursions, and tours based on millions of reviews collected over the past 12 months. Fewer than 1 per cent of the platform's eight million listings earn the coveted Best of the Best title, which is reserved for those consistently delivering above-and-beyond experiences. This year's list spans everything from castles and chocolate tours to football stadiums and whisky cruises, with Scotland earning several coveted spots with its varied offerings. Leading the Scottish entries was the Edinburgh Castle: Guided Walking Tour, which came in at number two in the UK. TripAdvisor described it as a must for anyone visiting the capital, offering the chance to follow a guide through the historic grounds and learn about royal residents including Mary Queen of Scots. Visitors also have time to explore the site's many features, including three museums, two prisons, the Chapel of Saint Margaret, and the Great Hall. Ranked fifth was the Original Harry Potter Locations Tour in Edinburgh, which treats fans of the wizarding world to a guided walk through the places that inspired JK Rowling and featured in the films. As TripAdvisor noted, it's an ideal way to explore the Royal Mile while uncovering lesser-known stories behind the books and movies. Also in Edinburgh, the Chocolatarium Chocolate Tour Experience placed eighth. The immersive chocolate-making workshop allows guests to craft their own themed chocolates and sample a wide variety, including haggis, chilli, and gin-infused flavours. TripAdvisor said the experience is perfect for families or groups, especially on a rainy day. In tenth place, and the first Scottish excursion outside of Edinburgh was the Full-Day Trip: Loch Ness, Glencoe & The Highlands, which does actually leave from the capital. It takes travellers on a scenic coach tour through the Highlands, visiting sites such as Glencoe, Pitlochry and the Commando Monument, with plenty of photo opportunities along the way. Tennent's Brewery Tours in Glasgow secured the 11th spot, with our biggest city making its first appearance on the list. The tour offers a deep dive into the story of Scotland's most iconic beer. TripAdvisor praised the tour for giving unique insight into the brewing process and sharing rare artefacts from as far back as the 1500s. The experience ends with a pour of unpasteurised Tennent's straight from the tank. At number 12, the Isle of Skye and Eilean Donan Castle Day Tour from Inverness gave travellers the chance to visit the famous castle and explore Skye's coastline, including Kilt Rock and the Old Man of Storr. The Guided Celtic Park Stadium Tour came in at number 14, offering football fans behind-the-scenes access to one of Scotland's most historic grounds. TripAdvisor praised the experience for its chance to explore dressing rooms, the players' tunnel and interactive exhibits. Finally, the Loch Ness Cruise, Outlander & Urquhart Castle Tour from Inverness ranked 17th, combining a cruise on the famous loch with a visit to the castle ruins and several Outlander filming locations, plus the chance to sample Highland whisky. In a separate category, Edinburgh's Royal Yacht Britannia was named the best attraction in the UK. Permanently docked in Leith, the former royal vessel offers access to five decks, including the Engine Room and Queen Elizabeth II's favourite, the Sun Lounge. Visitors can also enjoy the Royal Deck Tearoom. The full list of winners is available on TripAdvisor's website.

The UK beach that's 'better than the Maldives' revealed

Boasting pristine white sands and turquoise waters, Porthcurno Beach could be easily mistaken for a dreamy coastal destination in the Maldives. Located in West Cornwall, it ranked first for the best seaside area with warmer waters, in a study. Porthcurno Beach is a National Trust site backed by granite cliffs and is known for its sands being made of crushed sea shells, with larger pieces often washing up along the shore. Iglu Cruise's study analysed TripAdvisor 's top ten beaches in England alongside the average ocean temperatures in July, the Mirror reported. Porthcurno placed first, and has been praised on the review site for being 'better than the Maldives' by one visitor. They wrote: 'One of the best beaches in Cornwall, just returned from a week and visited Praa Sands, Carbis Bay and Porthcurno and this was our favourite. 'Spend the morning at the Minack Theatre soaking up the history and amazing views and then head to the beach for white sand and great surf.' Another called it a 'gorgeous beach', gushing over the 'unbelievable views' and adding, 'the sea was clear like as if you were abroad'. Someone else compared it to another tropical destination and said 'can you believe this is not the Caribbean!' Fistral Beach, also in Cornwall, followed Porthcurno in second place. Renowned as a perfect spot for surfing, the sandy beach boasts a backdrop of dunes and cliffs. While another Cornwall destination, Perranporth Beach, ranked third in the study. The seaside spot is three-miles long and is a popular choice for swimmers and surfers. Woolacombe Beach, in Devon, placed fourth with its golden sands and consistent waves. Tunnels Beaches ranked fifth. Visitors have to trek through a hand-carved historical tunnel to access its pebbled shore. In sixth place, Frinton-on-Sea Beach features and is located in Essex, followed by nearby Clacton-on-Sea Beach. Woolacombe Beach, in Devon, placed fourth with its golden sands and consistent waves Crosby Beach in Merseyside ranked eighth, while Brighton Beach in East Sussex came ninth, with Camber Sands placing tenth. In another study, Barafundle Bay in Pembrokeshire, Wales, was named the most-loved beach. The location is often described as having 'views reminiscent of the Caribbean'. With a beautiful green backdrop, the remote beach has turquoise waters and a golden sandy shore that mirrors what one might find on a tropical island.

According to a TripAdvisor viewer: "A remarkable view into these 4000 year old mines. Take your time and follow the self-guided tour – don't just look ahead, especially when underground in the mines. Pause and look up, down and back the way you came. ‌ They added: "The sheer extent of this ancient industry powered only by human muscle is eye opening and very well presented." If you want to travel there, you can always get the Great Orme tram: the only cable-hauled tramway on a public road in Great Britain. It takes visitors all the way to the base of the Great Orme headland. ‌ Of course, if you're more of a beach-goer, there's always West Shore Beach. The curving expansive sand gives way to the breathtaking ruggedness of the Irish Sea and offers a chance to sit back and relax. For those who prefer a slower pace, it also opens up onto many gorgeous coastal paths. Of course, with all the exploring to be done, you'll likely want to fill up on some delicious British classics.
