Dodgers' Freddie Freeman dishes truth on quad injury concern

The post Dodgers' Freddie Freeman dishes truth on quad injury concern appeared first on ClutchPoints.
As the Los Angeles Dodgers attempt to successfully defend their World Series Trophy in 2025, one of the latest concerns in an ever-growing list of issues presented to LA's finest has been the health of Freddie Freeman.

That's right, as the team still deals with double-digit pitchers on IL, with position players coming and going with all sorts of issues, and a slew of pre-game bullpen sessions, Freeman has been quietly dealing with a quad injury he suffered against the San Diego Padres earlier in the month.
While Freeman has been able to largely operate as usual, as he's been a force at the plate all season long, his inability to play unencumbered has some fans wondering if his status could take a turn for the worse as he plays through the issues instead of taking a concerted step back.
Discussing the injury with David Vassegh of Dodger Talk, Freeman noted that he's feeling okay now, but is managing the issue.
'Freddie Freeman told me he contiunes to manage his quad issue and said it's looser today than in recent games,' Vassegh said of Freeman. ''It's in a spot that I can play thru it and doesn't effect anything right now…Just trying to manage it.''

Just under a year removed from Freeman's shower fall last fall, which cost him time and left him limited on the run to the World Series, learning that the former MVP may again be managing a soft tissue injury during the punishing heat of a summer filled with consequential MLB baseball is yet another tough break for Dave Roberts' club.
While Freeman has appeared in all 12 games of the Dodgers so far this month, missing just a few innings due to defensive replacements and in games that were out of reach, he has moved a little slower than most would hope as he attempts to remain an active player at less than 100 percent. For LA's sake, Dodgers fans hope to see Freeman return to full strength before too long, as losing his bat from the lineup could be detrimental in maintaining the first seed in the NL West.

Angels manager Ron Washington to miss rest of season with unspecified medical issue

Eligible to return from the 10-day injured list on Saturday, James Schiano shares what fantasy managers should expect from Lance McCullers Jr. as the season rolls into July. ANAHEIM, Calif. — Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington will miss the rest of the season because of an unspecified medical issue, the team said Friday. Washington, the oldest manager in the major leagues at 73, has been sidelined for the past week. He experienced shortness of breath and appeared fatigued toward the end of a four-game series at the New York Yankees that ended on June 19. Washington flew back to Southern California, underwent a series of tests and was placed on medical leave. Angels bench coach Ray Montgomery, who has filled in for Washington for the past week, was named interim manager. Infield coach Ryan Goins was promoted to bench coach. Washington is 664-611 in 10 seasons as a major league manager, eight with Texas and two with Los Angeles. He led the Rangers to back-to-back World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011 before stepping down abruptly in September 2014. Washington returned to the sport as a coach with the Athletics and the Atlanta Braves, who won the World Series in 2021, before landing a second managerial job in Orange County. The Angels were 40-40 entering Friday night's game against the visiting Washington Nationals, winning three straight under Montgomery and seven of 10 overall. Los Angeles has played better than most expected from a team with major league-worst streaks of nine straight losing seasons and 10 straight non-playoff seasons. The 55-year-old Montgomery is getting his first job as a major league manager. The native of New York's Westchester County is a former Houston Astros outfielder who served as the scouting director for Arizona and Milwaukee before joining the Angels as their director of player personnel for the 2020 season. Montgomery became Los Angeles' bench coach in 2021 after general manager Perry Minasian took over the front office, and he stayed with the Angels while Joe Maddon, Phil Nevin and Washington managed the club. Goins played eight seasons in the major leagues before Washington hired him as the Angels' infield coach before the 2024 season.

Adou Thiero on two NBA players he's trying to learn from

As the Los Angeles Lakers look to restock their roster with more complementary talent nearly five months after the Luka Doncic trade, they're hoping that incoming rookie Adou Thiero will be part of their core for years to come. They acquired his rights on Thursday after he was the No. 36 pick in the draft, and he seems to have the natural tools to become a legitimate rotation player, if not a starter, someday. While he cannot shoot straight from the perimeter, he's very athletic and attacks the basket relentlessly, and he has the ability to disrupt things on the defensive end. If he pans out, the 6-foot-8 forward could be the type of two-way wing the Lakers need more of. He joined Los Angeles-based Spectrum SportsNet for an interview and said he's studying two of the better perimeter defenders in the NBA to model his game after them. 'I watch a lot of defenders, trying to pick up on what they do in the league, that's a different level. It's a lot of different stuff offensive players do in the league, so just trying to pick up off of OG Anunoby, Jrue Holiday, he's a great defender. Just picking up on what they do, watching how they play defense.' Anunoby, who plays for the New York Knicks and helped transform them into contenders when they traded for him midway through last season, is an excellent perimeter defender who also averaged 18.0 points a game this season and is a dependable 3-point shooter. Holiday is one of the best defenders at the point guard position, and he absolutely covers opponents like a straitjacket. He helped the Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics win the NBA championship in 2021 and 2024, respectively. The Lakers are hoping for similar results as Thiero gets acclimated to his new surroundings.
