Thomas Frank offers 'bad' James Maddison update as Spurs star leaves stadium on crutches
Thomas Frank has revealed that James Maddison looks to have suffered a 'bad' knee injury once again after he was stretchered off in Seoul. The Spurs midfielder was injured late on in South Korea, and was later seen leaving the stadium on crutches.
Medical staff had rushed on to treat the former Leicester man, who was clearly in agony. Maddison was then stretchered off, with Frank revealing that he has aggravated the knee injury that saw his season end prematurely last term.
Speaking after his side's 1-1 draw with Newcastle, he said: 'We're pretty sure it was the same knee he injured before.'
Maddison's injury was not the only headline from Spurs' most recent pre-season outing. The game also likely represented Son Heung-min's final match with the North London side.
He confirmed his desire to leave the club this summer in an emotional press conference before Sunday's game. On that announcement and Maddison's injury, Frank added: 'Yeah, it's like in life and football, I think sometimes life and football can be brutal, but also sometimes very beautiful.
'So I think it was brutal in what happened to to Madders. It looks like a bad injury. Of course we don't know exactly the status on it. It didn't look good.
'And then on the other side, unbelievable, beautiful scenes with Sonny and his teammates, the big respect from Newcastle, can't praise that highly enough from the players on the pitch.
'The scenes after, first when we walk around [the pitch] and then when his team-mates gathered around him and you could see he's highly emotional. Then in the changing room as well I just said a few things, very shortly because it's about Sonny and then he said a few things, of course very emotional, so very, very beautiful scenes about Sonny.'
Spurs will certainly be hoping that Maddison's injury isn't as bad as first feared. If so, it could force them back into the transfer market for recruits.
The North London side previously activated a release clause written into Morgan Gibbs-White's Nottingham Forest contract. But he eventually opted to sign a new contract at the City Ground.
Frank's side are in action once again next weekend as they take on Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in their final pre-season game. They then take on reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup. Spurs get their new campaign against newly-promoted Burnley on home soil in just under a fortnight's time.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy fears 'abuse' of multi-club ownership
The Eagles, whose FA Cup victory earned their place in the Europa League, were instead demoted to the Conference League by European football's governing body UEFA on July 11 after it determined that as of March 1, American businessman John Textor had control or influence at Palace and French club Lyon. UEFA rules state that one or more clubs deemed to have common ownership cannot play in the same competition, with Lyon edging out Palace for the sole Europa League place because of their comparatively higher league finish last season.

5 transfers Man Utd could complete next after Bruno Fernandes makes feelings clear
Manchester United have been told by Bruno Fernandes to complete more transfer business this summer after signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for Ruben Amorim's frontline Bruno Fernandes has called on Manchester United to make more new signings following the final match of their United States tour. The Red Devils captain called out his side's performance as 'lazy' before making a plea for more new additions. United have already added Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to Ruben Amorim's frontline this summer, and young defender Diego Leon has also joined the Portuguese coach's squad. But after finishing 15th in the Premier League last season, the 13-times champions need to find a great deal of improvement to transform into a competitive side for 2025/26. And while Fernandes believes they have started to improve thanks to their preparations, he wants to see more competition for places in the first team. The 30-year-old wants to see one or two more signings to help United on their way. 'It's been positive [the US tour] and it's good to create a bond with the players," said Fernandes. "We looked a bit lazy today and we need to change that. 'I don't want to have a dig at anyone, but I think the club is doing the best they can in terms of all the financial situations they talk about. I don't know about it, I'm not involved in that. But obviously it was crystal clear we needed more competition for the players that were here. READ MORE: Ruben Amorim reveals what Bryan Mbeumo must do for Man Utd after promising first start 'We needed more quality to get everyone to step up a bit more and to have more to do to get into the starting line-up. I think that's what the club and the manager are trying to do and hopefully we can get one or two players more to help with that.' Mirror Football takes a look at who United could add to satisfy Fernandes' demands. Benjamin Sesko The RB Leipzig striker is the focus of attention from Manchester United and Newcastle and will likely cost in excess of £70million. The forward, who scored 13 goals last season, has not indicated his preference though United are said to have the advantage as they first talk to the player before making a bid to the Bundesliga side. Sesko has long been linked to United and and a new striker remains on the agenda with United willing to let Rasmus Hojlund go for £30m. Ollie Watkins Aston Villa's asking price may have put United off making a move for Ollie Watkins for the moment, but the forward has proved of interest. The Midlands club want £60m for the 29-year-old and are reluctant to sell Watkins would be in keeping with United's transfer tactics this summer: of relying on players who have been successful in Premier League already. It may require United to become more desperate to part ways with a fee that Villa deem acceptable however. Gianluigi Donnarumma There has been talk of a new goalkeeper on Manchester United's agenda this summer and few additions could be as significant as Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Paris Saint-Germain star's contract is set to expire next year with little sign of an extension. Reports have indicated the former AC Milan shotstopper would be interested in making the move, but the MEN report there is not a set budget for a new first choice currently. The Italy international could be available for free in less than 12 months. A more affordable option could be Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor. Last month, it was reported the Red Devils were ready to trigger his release clause. United have already been linked to a whole host of goalkeepers including Aston Villa 's Emi Martinez, Porto ace Diogo Costa and Cruz Azul number one Kevin Mier. Reports in Brazil claimed United were now ready to move for Victor and told the South American side they were willing to trigger the player's R$44.5 million (£6m) release clause. A move has yet to be forthcoming however. Christopher Nkunku Earlier this summer it was reported Christopher Nkunku would be available for £35m if United wanted to make a move. The Frenchman has failed to shine at Chelsea after seeing his time at the club disrupted by injury. With United looking to sell Alejandro Garnacho, and Chelsea a prime candidate for his signature, there remains the chance Nkunku could be utilised in a makeweight for any deal. The Red Devils will likely prefer a full transfer fee to boost their standing in profit and sustainability rules.

Newcastle eye Champions League winner in fresh Alexander Isak transfer twist
Newcastle are looking to sign a new striker with Alexander Isak wanting to leave the club and Paris Saint-Germain star Goncalo Ramos has now emerged as a potential target Newcastle are reportedly interested in Champions League winning striker Goncalo Ramos as a potential replacement for Alexander Isak. Isak has expressed a desire to leave this summer and Liverpool have had a big-money offer rejected for the Swede. Newcastle are looking for replacements for Isak and Benjamin Sesko has emerged as their top target. However, Manchester United are also interested in the 22-year-old and Newcastle are now weighing up their options. According to a report from the Daily Mail, Newcastle are prepared to move on to other targets if it emerges that Sesko would prefer to join United. The report adds that Paris Saint-Germain star Ramos has emerged as an alternative option. Ramos scored 19 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions last season and helped PSG win the Champions League, Ligue 1 and Coupe de France. It is claimed that Newcastle first considered signing Ramos three years ago before Isak joined and PSG are said to be open to letting him leave this summer. It comes as Newcastle boss Eddie Howe spoke out about Isak's future, with the striker expected to report for training ahead of their Premier League opener later this month. "You have to earn the right to train with us," Howe said. "We are Newcastle United. The player has a responsibility here to be part of a team and part of a squad - you have to act in the right way. So that is also at play here. "We will make sure that any player does that to earn the right to train with the group. No player can expect to act poorly and train with the group as normal. Of course I'd like him to be (there), but whether he will I don't know at this moment in time. "We have been here with the time difference, preparing for training and for games. Other people have been dealing with that situation back at home." Newcastle value Isak at £150m and Howe has admitted the situation is "far from ideal", stating: "I think from my situation, I am very much removed from everything that is happening back home. I was made aware there was a bid. "That bid was turned down before I heard about it. There are people back in England dealing with the situation. I really don't know what is going to happen next, but from our perspective, we still support Alex in every way, and my wish is still that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again. "I know where he is through the media, so I think from that perspective it's difficult for me to go into any detail. The situation is far from ideal. It is quite complex. I think that is all I have got to say."
