South Africa should be charging, not charfing, war criminal Zelensky

While it made for endearing, virtue-signalling, political theatre, Volodymyr Zelensky's meeting with President Cyril Ramaphosa last week was a well-intentioned waste of time, money and state resources and a lost opportunity.
Know what we should've done instead..?
Rather than welcome him, with open Rainbow Nation arms, our government should've arrested the illegitimate, self-appointed, de facto Ukrainian 'president' Zelensky the moment his corrupt, c*kehead, Banderite Nazi a** touched down on beloved, sacred, S'African soil.
Then, instead of entertaining and treating him to Zulu sushi and koeksisters, we should've charged him with corruption, treason, Nazism and genocidal war crimes against humanity – particularly his own people – and threatening the planet with a third (possibly nuclear) world war.
Once charged, he should then be dragged off to the Hague, ICJ or ICC for prosecution. Or at least handed over to the Russian Embassy.
Could we legally do any of that…?
While the SA government's mediation attempts to consider 'both sides' are laudable, they should be politically and legally consistent.
The ANC bravely brought charges of genocide against the Zionist, psychopathic, apartheid regime of Israel – and for good reason.
But, if you're going to hold Israel to account, the same should apply to Zelensky and his corrupt, drug-addled, suicidal Nazis in Kyiv for provoking and prolonging this conflict.
Here are just a few reasons to arrest, charge and prosecute Zelensky and his regime for war crimes…
Lest we forget, soon after the Ukraine conflict broke out in late February 2022 (when Russia launched its SMO to de-Nazify and demilitarise Ukraine), a peace deal was on the table, negotiated in Turkey between Russia and Ukraine in April. It was called the Istanbul Accords. That treaty officially ended the Ukraine conflict, and Zelensky initialled it. All that remained was for it to be signed and ratified by both parties.
But that never happened.
Instead, at the behest of US/NATO, the mass-murdering, warmongering, war criminal, ex-British PM Boris Johnson made a surprise visit to Kyiv in late April and pressured President Volodymyr Zelensky to cut off peace negotiations with Russia.
Johnson convinced Zelensky to renege on the treaty – with the promise of support, funding and weapons from the West – and NATO membership (which, so far, has not happened and probably never will).
Boris Johnson scuttled peace, right there, and Zelensky went along with it.
That decision…between those two men…would end up unnecessarily costing more than a million Russian and Ukrainian people their lives.
Zelensky later denied that any such agreement had been reached in Istanbul and stated no deal had been signed.
But then…in June 2023, at a meeting with African leaders in St Petersburg, that pesky, pedantic, nitpicking Putin went and did a contrary thing. In a room full of the press and African delegates – including Cyril Ramaphosa, he pulled out a signed draft of the Istanbul agreement and held it up for the world to see. He accused Kyiv of throwing the peace deal into the 'garbage of history'.
Proving, right there, that Zelensky, NATO's patsy…is a warmongering liar.
Remember, Zelensky ran for office on the campaign promise he would end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Instead, he ramped it all the way up to a full-blown war.
On 18 March, President Putin shocked the world and stunned his critics when, after a phone call with President Donald Trump, he made an extraordinary and totally unexpected decision. He agreed to Trump's proposal of a 30-day ceasefire on Ukrainian energy infrastructure and immediately instructed his military to implement that directive.
Kyiv agreed to reciprocate.
Practically the same day the ceasefire was agreed to, 19 March, Ukraine began violating it, and repeatedly violated it dozens of times over the next month.
According to Russia's Ministry of Defence, since the truce was agreed upon, Kyiv has carried out countless strikes on numerous Russian energy facilities including oil pipelines and pumps, gas metering stations, power lines and substations. The Russian ministry said these repeated premeditated provocations by Kyiv were aimed at derailing the US president's peace initiative.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated at a press conference that 'Ukraine's constant continued attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure proves that Kiev clearly does not want peace.'
One of the more recent energy ceasefire violations by Ukraine was over the Easter weekend on Saturday 19 April when, according to the Russian MOD, Kyiv reportedly launched ten strikes within 24 hours, targeting energy facilities in Belgorod, Bryansk, Donetsk and Kherson.
Despite yet another ceasefire violation from Ukraine, on that same Saturday, President Putin, once again, went and did the totally unexpected…
Over the Easter weekend, on Saturday 19 April, Putin announced a temporary 30-hour Easter pause in hostilities with Ukraine. Commencing at 18:00 Moscow time on Saturday and ending midnight on 21 April, Easter Monday.
Putin expressed hope that Kyiv would demonstrate goodwill and adhere to the ceasefire.
'Ukraine's reaction to the ceasefire would be a clear indicator of whether Kiev is sincerely willing to engage in negotiations to end the conflict,' he said.
The Russian DefenCe Ministry called on Kyiv to reciprocate, stating: 'The ceasefire is being introduced for humanitarian purposes and will be mutually observed by the Russian Joint Group of Troops and the Kiev regime.'
On Easter Sunday evening, 20 April, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced on Telegram that, predictably, Ukraine failed to uphold the 30-hour Easter ceasefire. She accused Kyiv of violating the truce with American HIMARS systems.
On 21 April, Easter Monday, Russia's Defence Ministry reported Kyiv's forces had continued military operations throughout the 30-hour truce, logging approximately 4,900 violations during this period – including the deployment of short-range drones targeting areas outside the combat zone.
At the close of Zelensky's visit to SA last Thursday (which he cut short after being told we won't be providing Ukraine with any weapons), Cyril Ramaphosa praised Zelensky for agreeing to an 'unconditional ceasefire' in the war with Russia.
'It is a good signal from President Zelensky that Ukraine is agreeable to an unconditional ceasefire so that discussions and negotiations can ensue,' Ramaphosa told reporters after talks with the Ukrainian leader.
On 25 April, the day after Ramaphosa said that, the Kyiv regime killed a top Russian military general in a terrorist attack with a car bomb.
Does any of this sound like Ukraine sincerely wants to end the war with Russia?
Just before Kyiv's terrorist attack, Trump posted on his Truth Social that Zelensky is stalling peace in Ukraine.
According to the South African Presidency, Ramaphosa and Zelensky were coming together to explore cooperation in trade, agriculture, and education. While continuing discussions on peace efforts related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Really…?
There's just one problem. Zelensky's not in any position to negotiate anything. He's an illegitimate president. Any 'negotiations' our government has with Zelensky are redundant.
Zelensky recently delayed elections, again, and extended his own illegitimate 'presidency' by prolonging martial law measures and general mobilisation in the country for another three months.
Ukrainian (state-run) media reported that Zelensky would not extend his regime – but he did. The measures were set to expire on 9 May, but will now be extended to 6 August.
Zelensky initially invoked martial law following the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022. Since then, he has extended the measure more than a dozen times and has cited it as the reason for not holding elections in the country.
Officially, Zelensky's presidential term expired nearly one year ago, and Moscow has since repeatedly rejected his legitimacy as Ukraine's leader.
Even Trump insisted that Zelensky has to hold elections at some stage.
Trump was right about something else…
When Trump blasted Zelensky in the White House in late February he told him, 'you don't have the cards right now'.
In other words, Zelensky is not in any position to demand a goddamn thing. Like military analyst, former Marine Intell officer Scott Ritter recently said in an interview, 'Zelensky needs to shut up and sit down. He's done.'
Because Russia's holding all the cards.
Speaking of…back in late March 2022, barely a month into the Russian SMO, Scott Ritter said; 'Russia is holding on to so many cards right now, and when they start slapping them down they're gonna pick us apart at the seams.'
Well, the Russians are slapping those cards down now, and most of them are non-negotiable – like the issue of returning Crimea to Ukraine. Not going to happen.
Right now, as we speak, the real adults and chief negotiators in this saga are Trump and Putin – through their reps, Witkoff and Lavrov. The US and Russia are negotiating Ukraine's fate and future, nobody else. Not Zelensky. Not Europe. Not Ramaphosa.
All Zelensky gets to do now is submit to whatever peace deal Trump and Putin agree on.
By now, we've all seen numerous videos of Ukrainian military 'recruitment' officers dragging random, reluctant men off the streets and busses, and out of nightclubs and cafes, to be sent to the 'meatgrinder' frontline – without adequate training – as cannon fodder.
Does that sound 'democratic' to you? That sound like respecting human rights and individual freedoms? Also, does that sound like an army on the verge of victory? Or rather, one on the verge of defeat and throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the conflict in final desperation?
And why is Ukraine so desperate for cannon fodder..?
Yes, you read that right. Western MSM has been telling you it's only a few hundred thousand Ukrainian soldiers killed and a few hundred thousand more Russians.
That's a lie.
More than one credible source, including Antiwar.com and Consortium News, military analysts Col. Doug McGregor and Scott Ritter, and ex-CIA analysts Ray Mc Govern and Larry Johnson – to name a few – have claimed that more than a million Ukrainians have lost their lives to date in that conflict, and the Russians have lost around 90-100k.
That's more than a million Ukrainians who, as we established upfront, never needed to die in the first place.
If only Zelensky had ratified that treaty in Istanbul back in April 2022, instead of selling out his country and sacrificing his people…for personal wealth.
Zelensky's culpability can perhaps best be summed up by a message Scott Ritter posted to former US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken in January this year:
'⁣You are singularly responsible for the deaths of more than a million people as a result of a conflict you could have avoided but facilitated. You took us to the brink of nuclear war with Russia.
You are a war criminal in every sense of the word. I hope you are investigated, charged, and found guilty of betraying your nation.
And I hope you are given the justice you so richly deserve.'

Zelensky urges US to 'shift tone' in dialogue with Russia as new POW swap takes place

Ukrainian prisoners of war hug after an exchange of prisoners at an undisclosed location in Ukraine. Image: Handout via AFP Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday urged the US to "shift tone" in its dialogue with Russia as he warned that appeasing President Vladimir Putin would not help to end the war. "Right now, the tone of the US–Russia dialogue feels too warm," Zelensky wrote on X, formerly Twitter, adding, "let's be honest: that won't stop Putin. What's needed is a shift in tone." Ukraine and Russia conducted another POW swap - the fourth one in a week - the warring sides said on Saturday, under agreements reached in Istanbul earlier this month. "We continue to take our people out of Russian captivity. This is the fourth exchange in a week," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on social media. "In accordance with the Russian-Ukrainian agreements... another group of Russian servicemen was returned from the territory controlled by the Kyiv regime," Russia's defence ministry said on Telegram. Kyiv also said it had received another batch of 1,200 unidentified bodies from Russia, which it said Russia claimed "belong to Ukrainian citizens, including military personnel," as part of the Istanbul agreements as well. Ukraine did not say whether it returned any bodies to Russia. Photos published by Zelensky on Telegram showed men of various ages, mostly with shaved heads, wearing camouflage and draped in Ukrainian flags. Video Player is loading. BEE is at a Crossroads - But Who Benefits from Its Destruction?

BEE, as it has been implemented in too many cases, has failed to meet the aspirations of the majority, writes the author. Gumede is right to point to the recycling of beneficiaries, the political gatekeeping, and the elite capture of empowerment deals. But he is wrong, dangerously wrong, if his insight is used to argue for scrapping BEE altogether. Let me be clear: BEE, as it has been implemented in too many cases, has failed to meet the aspirations of the majority. It is a critique we cannot afford to ignore. But neither can we afford to allow this critique to be weaponised by those who have always opposed transformation, to delegitimise the very idea of economic justice in post-apartheid South Africa. The recent critique by Professor William Gumede that over R1 trillion has been 'transferred' under Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) to fewer than 100 politically connected individuals is a sobering wake-up call. It is ironic that the same voices calling BEE 'racist' rarely propose solutions to white economic over-representation. Here are the facts: 8 of the top 10 richest South Africans remain white men. Over 70% of agricultural land remains under white ownership. Access to venture capital, export markets, and finance remains racially skewed. The idea that 'BEE is the biggest scam in post-apartheid SA' dangerously distracts from the real structural crisis: the continued racial and gendered concentration of wealth. Certainly not the millions of unemployed black youth in townships and rural villages. Not the historically disadvantaged communities who still lack access to capital, land, and markets. And not the African, Indian and Coloured women who remain structurally excluded from the mainstream economy. We must ask ourselves: who benefits when BEE is destroyed instead of reformed? Reset restore all settings to the default values Done Beginning of dialog window. Escape will cancel and close the window. The only ones who benefit from the collapse of BEE are those who were never in favour of transformation in the first place the economic oligarchs who would be thrilled to return to a status quo of white dominance wrapped in the language of meritocracy. Despite limitations, BEE is not a failure: Over 6 million black South Africans now hold direct or indirect ownership in companies through broad-based share schemes (e.g. MTN Zakhele, SASOL Inzalo, Phuthuma Nathi at MultiChoice). Black ownership on the JSE has grown from less than 1% in 1994 to an estimated 25–30% today (direct + indirect via funds and B-BBEE schemes). Over 50,000 black-owned SMEs have been supported via enterprise and supplier development obligations. BEE has enabled the creation of black industrialists, catalysed youth training schemes, and expanded procurement access. The BEE scorecard includes ownership, skills development, employment equity, socio-economic development, and procurement. It is a multidimensional framework, not simply elite enrichment. However now that we know better , we must do better. Acknowledge the Failures, But Don't Abandon the Mission As a former Member of Parliament and lifelong activist for social and economic justice, I have seen first-hand how some BEE deals were little more than rent-seeking schemes. Politically connected figures often acted as fronts for white capital, offering legitimacy without empowerment. These are not just moral failings they are strategic betrayals of the people. But the answer is not abandonment. It is reform, accountability, and reorientation toward true broad-based empowerment. We must ask: What models have worked? What does inclusive, community-rooted BEE look like? And how do we ensure that BEE no longer becomes a revolving door for the same elite, but instead a ladder for the many? What Broad-Based Empowerment Really Looks Like The idea of broad-based empowerment is not hypothetical. I have checked ,it actually exists though often drowned out by the noise of scandal. Let us spotlight real, replicable models that show us what is possible. 1. Sasol Inzalo Trust (2011) – R26 Billion Empowerment for the Public One of the largest and most ambitious empowerment transactions in South African history. Over 200,000 South Africans from nurses to pensioners acquired shares in Sasol via the Inzalo Trust. This was not an elite project, but a mass participation vehicle offering dividends, ownership, and dignity. Yes, the deal had flaws (especially when Sasol's share price dropped), but the intent and structure were inclusive. We must learn from and build on this. 2. Absa Employee and CSI Trust (2023) – A New Vision for BEE In 2023, Absa created a model that should become the new gold standard. It allocated 7% of its ownership to: 3% for over 35,000 employees; 4% to a Community Trust focused on healthcare, education, and township upliftment. This is real empowerment linking productivity with ownership, and profit with community reinvestment. 3. PepsiCo / SimbPioneer Foods (2020) – Worker Trust PepsiCo's merger with Pioneer Foods resulted in a R1.66 billion worker trust benefiting over 12,000 employees 90% of whom are black. It wasn't politically brokered. It was structurally designed to include workers at scale. 4. Heineken's 'Bokamoso' Trust (2021) When Heineken acquired Distell, it was required by the Competition Tribunal to create a broad-based employee share scheme. 'Bokamoso' gave 6% equity to workers a model where empowerment was made a regulatory condition of doing business in South Africa. These are not isolated cases. They are models for the future evidence that BEE can work, and work for the people. Why can the JSE Top 100 Listed Companies not follow this and give shares to their workers, their customers and communities they serve? B-BBEE That Serves the Nation, Not the Network For BEE to be legitimate, it must: Stop recycling elites: No individual or consortium should benefit from more than one major BEE deal. Impose sunset clauses: Empowerment credentials must expire after a certain period. Create a National BEE Beneficiary Registry: All deals and beneficiaries must be publicly disclosed and tracked. Mandate community participation: At least 30% of all future equity deals must be routed through community trusts, worker funds, and township co-operatives. Align with the District Development Model: BEE must build local economies not extract value from them. We must turn BEE into a mechanism for building black productive capacity, not just redistributing shares. That means more funding for black industrialists, township-based manufacturing, rural cooperatives, and tech-enabled youth entrepreneurship. A Call to Action: Reclaim Empowerment from the Few, for the Many To comrades, policymakers, business leaders, and community activists: we are at a crossroads. Either we allow the failures of the past to paralyse us or we reclaim the transformative promise of BEE and remake it to serve all who were historically disadvantaged: Black Africans, Coloured South Africans, Indian South Africans, women, youth, people with disabilities, and the rural poor. I call on the ANC to: Codify a new generation of community-based empowerment deals Reject individual-based enrichment without public impact Strengthen the oversight powers of the B-BBEE Commission Incentivise cooperatives, worker-ownership, and community reinvestment We must restore the moral authority of economic redress by placing THE PEOPLE not political patrons at the centre of empowerment. Conclusion: Build, Don't Burn Professor Gumede has done us a service by exposing what went wrong. But let us not allow this moment to be hijacked by reactionaries who wish to dismantle BEE altogether. Let us not abandon the house of transformation because the roof leaked. Instead, let us rebuild it, repair it, and expand it, so that it shelters all South Africans who have for too long lived on the margins. We don't need to scrap BEE. We need to liberate it from the few and make it finally work for the many. That is the real empowerment and economic justice we must fight and struggle for. Zambia's youngest mayor calls on South African youth to take charge of local governance

South Africans youth have been encouraged by Zambia's youngest mayor, George Mwanza, to run for office during the 2026 local government elections. Image: Oupa Mokoena / Independent Newspapers George Mwanza, the young mayor of Chipata, Zambia, has urged South African youth not to miss opportunities to make a difference in local government by being candidates in next year's municipal elections. Mwanza was 27 when he swept into office in the eastern Zambian city, on the border with Malawi, in 2021 as an independent candidate full of promises of change. He became Zambia's youngest mayor and the first to be elected independent of a political party since the country gained its independence in 1964. Mwanza was rejected by the ruling party at the time, the Patriotic Front led by Edgar Lungu, the former president of Zambia, who died earlier this month in Tshwane. Video Player is loading. Advertisement Next Stay Close ✕ Ad Loading 'I was the first independent mayor. I was clearly rejected by the political party system. They said I was too young to be a mayor of a city for that matter, but the people gave me the vote through direct vote – one man, one vote,' Mwanza said on the sidelines of the two-day U20 African Mayors' Assembly at the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research in Tshwane this week. According to Mwanza, he was told he was too young and could not be mayor, and other small parties approached him, but he had the resolve to work for the people independently. He explained that in Zambia, the voting system allows registered citizens to vote for their preferred leader or mayor, enabling any young person with a dream to run for elections and gain citizen support. Mwanza is proud to continue representing not only the citizens of Chipata but also the young African people hopeful for youth leadership and to be given an opportunity to lead in their various countries. 'South Africa needs young people in leadership, especially in local government, which interfaces with the challenges of the citizens every day. It requires young people with energy, fresh ideas to innovate at the grassroots level and drive change from the grassroots,' explained Mwanza, who studied at the Zambian Open University, University of Lusaka, and internationally in Amsterdam. He encouraged young people in South Africa to run and take advantage of the 2026 local government elections and offer themselves for leadership. 'Africa needs them, it needs their innovation and energy. There is a lot of work in local government, it requires young people who can run 24/7. There is no holiday in local government,' Mwanza added. He believes local government and cities are the engines of transformation for African economies and for countries on the continent. Mwanza understands his responsibility does not end and stop with Chipata but also to send a voice to the African continent to entrust leadership to young people who can drive fresh ideas, innovation, and people-centred leadership. 'And this is what is so important about my election. We are working extremely hard to ensure that we provide services, embrace innovation, and young people and women with traditional knowledge on how they wish to address various challenges they face in entrepreneurship and how their daily lives can be improved,' he said. The son of a local marketeer mother and a peasant farmer, Mwanza said seeing his parents experience injustice from those who are powerful politically sparked his interest in high office. 'So when I was growing up, I said I needed to be in a position of leadership so that I could protect those who are weak in society, so that is the desire to lead that started when I was young,' he remembered. However, the other issue was the incapacity of the municipality to provide sanitation facilities for traders while collecting resources such as daily levies and so on. 'So I said, when I become a mayor and I'm able to provide, I'm going to provide sanitation facilities. I didn't know that I would be the mayor, but I wanted to be in a position of leadership.' He said he decided to work on a three to four-year plan with the community, mobilise young people, and tell them that they also needed to participate in shaping the future. And that is how he ended up planning to run as an independent, simply volunteering in communities with a local NGO supporting citizens to claim their right to development. 'That is what we were doing every day, and that gave me a lot of traction and direct contact with the citizens,' stated Mwanza. In Chipata, Mwanza's primary role is to make sure citizens can access services that they are duly entitled to from the municipality easily in the comfort of their homes. 'That is the reason why three years ago, we introduced the digital system for billing processes (so that) people can receive whatever notices and bills, or responsibilities that they have to contribute to their city, right in the comfort of their homes on their phones,' he said. The service is available in both English and Ngoni, and it does not matter whether residents have big or small phones, but they are able to receive reminders, according to Mwanza.
