Tata Motors on Friday reported a 62.2% year-on-year drop in consolidated net profit to Rs 4,003 crore for the June quarter, hit by lower volumes across segments, reduced profits at Jaguar Land Rover due to US tariffs, and a high base from gains on the sale of discontinued operations last year.
In the April–June quarter of the previous fiscal, the auto major had posted a net profit of Rs 10,587 crore, the company said in a regulatory filing. Revenue from operations came in at Rs 1,04,407 crore, compared to Rs 1,07,102 crore in the same period last year. Tata Motors Q1 Results
TML's performance in the quarter was impacted by volume decline in all businesses and a drop in profitability primarily at JLR, the company said.
Following the amalgamation of Tata Motors Finance Ltd (TMFL) – a wholly-owned step down subsidiary of the company – into Tata Capital Ltd, the company had received equity shares of TCL amounting to Rs 8,016 crore over the book value of net assets transferred as at appointed date of April 1, 2024, amounting to Rs 4,975 crore as gain on sale of discontinued operation in consolidated results, the filing said.
'Despite stiff macro headwinds, the business delivered a profitable quarter, supported by strong fundamentals. As tariff clarity emerges and festive demand picks up, we are aiming to accelerate performance and rebuild momentum across the portfolio. Against the backdrop of the upcoming demerger in October 2025, our focus remains firmly on delivering a strong second-half performance,' Tata Motors Group CFO PB Balaji said. How JLR Was Hit By US Tariffs?
Addressing an earnings call, he said, 'In the current quarter, we (JLR) have got hit by almost 250 million pounds on (US) tariff charges because even though the deal (UK-US trade deal) was announced on May 8, it got ratified only on June 30, and it is not with retrospective effect.'
Going forward, he said the correction for the reduction in tariffs from 27.5 per cent to 10 per cent under the US-UK trade deal and 27.5 per cent to 15 per cent, under the US-EU deal, along with the removal of the penalty for emission in the US will play through.
'Net impact is what we want to figure out a way to manage through the rest of the year,' he said, adding that while the US demand is holding up, China has introduced luxury tax on all imported vehicles and 'we have to figure out a way to manage that'.
JLR revenues were down by 9.2 per cent to 6.6 billion pounds, impacted by significant new US trade tariffs on the UK and EU-produced cars exported to the US, and the planned legacy Jaguar wind-down.

Pakistan hits JACKPOT due to Trump's tariff, set to become rich, Indian farmers may suffer due to..., may decide to switch to...

New Delhi: The decision of US President Donald Trump to impose a tariff of 50% on exports from India, especially on Indian Basmati rice, is going to affect not only the economies of both countries but also have an impact on the global economy. Indian traders, especially Basmati farmers and exporters of Punjab and Haryana, are very much worried and uncertain, hoping that the government will help them come out of this mess. Moreover, this decision has been taken at a time when prices are already falling, and uncertainty has increased in the market. When did the USA impose the tariff on India? America imposed the tariff on August 7 after Trump's executive order, in which an additional penalty of 25% was added on India's purchase of oil from Russia and with the already applicable 25% reciprocal tariff, the total tariff became 50%. This 50% tariff will be applicable from August 28. Why is it an advantage for Pakistan? The imposition of a 50% tariff on India will work in Pakistan's favour, as it has given Pakistan a big lead over India in the American market. This is because only a 19% tariff has been imposed on Pakistan. These two different tariff rates, i.e., 19% and 50% will give Pakistan a huge margin of 31% in Basmati exports as Indian Basmati rice will cost 31% more to the American customers. What do Indian traders say? 'Pakistani traders have already started taking orders from America, but Indian traders are not even able to negotiate due to the price difference,' said Vice-President of Basmati Exporters Association Ranjit Singh Josan as quoted by a report in the Hindustan Times. Josan added that this is causing a loss to India and benefiting Pakistan. What is the biggest fear of Indian farmers? The tariff has been imposed at a time when the prices of famous varieties like 1121 and 1509 have already fallen from Rs 4,500 per quintal to Rs 3,500-Rs 3,600. Now there is a fear that the prices may reach Rs 3,000. In such a situation, the tariff is a double blow. 'If this situation continues, farmers will leave Basmati and go back to ordinary rice,' said Gurbakshish Singh, a farmer from Tarn Taran in Punjab, as reported by news18. Price difference between Indian and Pakistani Basmati rice in the USA? One ton of Basmati rice bought in the USA for $1,200 will cost an additional $600 if imported from India, while importing it from Pakistan will cost only $228 extra. Mill owners are not able to sell their old stock.

8th Pay Commission: Fitment Factor Explained — What It Is and Why It Matters For Your Salary Hike

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet, earlier this year, approved the setting up of the 8th Pay Commission, as announced by Union Minister Piyush Goyal. The commission will review and revise the salaries of central government employees, and one of the most talked-about elements in this process is the fitment factor. Understanding the fitment factor The fitment factor is a crucial multiplier applied to the basic pay to determine new salaries, pensions, and allowances for government employees. It is fixed after taking into account factors like inflation, employee welfare, and the government's fiscal capacity. In the 7th Pay Commission (implemented in 2016), the fitment factor was set at 2.57. This didn't mean pay packets were multiplied by 2.57; instead, the basic pay was recalculated using this number, which set the minimum salary at Rs 18,000. Since the dearness allowance (DA) is reset to zero with each new pay commission, the actual salary jump at that time worked out to about 14.3 percent Breakdown of a government employee's salary A typical salary structure for a central government employee is made up of: Basic Pay – around 51.5 percent of the total Dearness Allowance (DA) – about 30.9 percent House Rent Allowance (HRA) – roughly 15.4 percent Transport Allowance – close to 2.2 percent What to expect in the 8th Pay Commission Market estimates, including one from Kotak Institutional Equities, suggest that the 8th Pay Commission may propose a fitment factor of around 1.8, which could translate into an average salary increase of about 13 percent for central government employees.
