8 of the best beauty buys that launched in April, from Charlotte Tilbuty to Laneige
We've pinned down all the new standout launches from last month, including Charlotte Tilbury's new kohl pencils
Somehow it's already May — how did that happen? As we swap chunky jackets for linen shirts and iced coffees, we can't help but feel a little nostalgic about April. It was the month that the sun finally came out and summer dresses made their long-awaited return.
April also brought a bunch of brilliant beauty launches — from haircare heroes to glowy skincare must-haves. This month, our beauty writers Lauren, Rachel and Tiffany have rounded up their favourite finds — including Philip Kingsley's latest hair treatment in a juicy nectar and peach scent (hello, summer hair) and ghd's brand-new tool for creating soft, beachy waves.
We've also pinned down the best skincare and makeup launches, from the likes of Charlotte Tilbury and Skin & Tan. Plus, Laneige has dropped a new Lip Sleeping Mask flavour and spoiler: it's green, fresh and you'll want to wear it all day (as well as the night).

Lauren's picks:
Skin & Tan Face Glow Advanced Hydrating SPF & Tan Cream - £20
Now that the sun's shining, I've started using fake tan again. I'm comfortable with my pale skin during winter, but a golden glow gives me an extra confidence boost when the weather warms up.
Skin & Tan has been on my list for some time (its setting mist is a real game-changer), so I was eager to try its latest product: the Glow Advanced Hydrating SPF & Tan Cream. This 3-in-1 multitasker is designed to fit seamlessly into your daily routine, serving as a daily moisturiser, providing essential sun protection, and delivering a gradual tan that looks natural and sun-kissed.
Admittedly, I had some reservations at first application — the formula is a bit thick — but it blended in surprisingly quickly, leaving no white residue. It did leave my skin feeling slightly sticky, but nothing too off-putting. It also smells like a gentle reminder of holidays (think subtle coconut and sunshine), and I noticed that my face felt more hydrated after use.
The tan itself took a few days to develop, but the results were worth the wait. It was a healthy, glowing, just-back-from-the-beach kind of colour that made me look instantly more refreshed.
Sure, it's not the lightest texture I've tried, but at £20, it's a solid budget-friendly choice if you're looking for an everyday SPF that delivers a gradual, healthy tan without fuss.
LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask Matcha Bubble Tea - £21
Rain or shine, winter winds or summer heatwaves, my lips are perpetually dry and chapped. It's a curse I've come to accept but one I never stop trying to fix.
So when Laneige's Lip Sleeping Mask went viral, I had to see what the hype was about. I picked up the vanilla version first, and it's been a non-negotiable part of my bedtime routine ever since. A quick swipe before sleep, and I wake up to soft, hydrated lips — no peeling or flaking.
Laneige has since expanded its lineup with a range of delicious flavours, and the latest addition to the family is Matcha Bubble Tea. It smells like a creamy blend of earthy green tea and sweet milk — comforting and refreshing.
Like all the other versions, it's packed with nourishing ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, and murumuru butter to deeply moisturise overnight. And if you're as obsessed with the scent as I am, there's even a matching Glowy Lip Balm for daytime use.
ghd Wave - £159
Now the weather is officially warm, and I've been on the hunt for a way to get that effortless, beachy hair vibe without the need for an actual beach (the struggle of living in London). After much searching, I'm thrilled to report that GHD has just launched its first device designed for exactly that: the ghd Wave.
This clever new tool features three barrels and uses advanced PTC heat technology to maintain the optimal styling temperature of 185°C, ensuring a consistent, gentle heat that helps create loose, natural-looking waves. GHD also claims it delivers 30% more shine and up to twice less frizz — ideal for polished, off-duty waves.
Don't forget, though, to always apply a heat protector spray before you get styling to keep strands healthy and strong all summer long. My personal preference is Beauty Works 10 in 1 Miracle Heat Protect Spray (£8.50), which eliminates frizz, nourishes hair, and prevents potential damage.
Rachel's picks:
Nala's Baby Strawberry Springs Body Lotion - £5.55
Ever since Nala's Baby was launched in 2022, it's become something of a force to be reckoned with amongst parents and skincare fans alike. Because it's made for babies, it's incredibly kind on even the most sensitive of skin, and as a result, it's become a firm favourite amongst adults too.
I'm one of Nala's Baby's stalwart fans, and swears by it for soft and nourished skin without it having to cost the earth. So, I was excited to try the newest scent of the brand's body lotion — Strawberry Springs.
I've been using Vanilla Cloud f or a good while, and the scent is unrivalled, so a more exotic version of my favourite lotion sounded perfect for the upcoming summer months. My skin is sensitive, so this lotion is perfect for me. as it's packed with hydrating apricot oil and soothing shea butter to absorb effortlessly and deliver long-lasting moisture and protection against dryness.
It's infused with strawberry, raspberry leaf, and black currant extracts for a gorgeous smell that layers perfectly with some of my fruitier summer perfumes. I can't say I prefer it to Vanilla Cloud as that's the OG, but it's definitely something I'll be using throughout the warmer spring an summer months.
Philip Kingsley Elasticizer Therapy in Honey Nectar and Peach - £24
As someone who has thick, long and often dry hair, keeping it hydrated and in good condition is paramount. Following advice from a Dyson hairstylist a few years ago, I began to apply Philip Kingsley Elasticizer once a week for a deep condition, and it's seriously helped in the upkeep of healthy, shiny hair with less split ends than I was experiencing before.
Anyone who knows anything about haircare will know that Philip Kingsley Elasticizer Therapy is nothing new, and has been a cult staple amongst many beauty lovers for years. But what is new is a Honey Nectar and Peach version, which hit shelves at the back-end of last month.
Having used this several times now, I can vouch for it having the same restorative properties as the OG, with the added bonus of a delicious, summer scent that lasts for days after washing.
Used before shampooing, it's clinically proven to reduce breakage by up to 46% after just one wash. It also adds instant shine, and makes your hair feel super soft. The only downside is you do need to leave it on to work its magic for 10-20 minutes before washing, but if you can make the time, it's well worth it.
Tiffany's picks:
Belif The True Cream, Aqua Bomb - £34.53
The craze of Korean beauty skincare is showing no signs of slowing down. One of the 'OG' K-beauty brands that I encountered in Southeast Asia is Belif, which uses apothecary traditions and herbal ingredients to restore skin conditions. I was excited when I found out Belif has landed in the UK — but especially for its bestseller, The True Cream Aqua Bomb.
The gel-cream moisturiser is loved by makeup artists in Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, who use it as a makeup primer before applying foundation. A blend of hydrating botanical extracts, glycerin, and macadamia nut oil bind moisture to the skin, plumping up the skin, restoring elasticity, and creating a dewy glow.
The Aqua Bomb range also includes a pillow-proof Sleeping Mask (£51.73), a refreshing jelly-to-foam Jelly Cleanser (£22) and a hydrating Toner (£21).
The Outset Lip Oasis - £22
Scarlett Johansson knows a thing or two about keeping lips looking luscious. Her clean beauty brand, The Outset, recently developed the popular Lip Oasis, which delivers intense moisture and high shine without that sticky, greasy feeling.
The brand launched three tinted versions to give shoppers' lips a sheer hint of colour with fruit-flavoured scents — Mirage (blackberry), Sun Kiss (orange-red) and Dune (nude).
It nourishes the lips, and the Maxi-Lip technology is also proven to enhance volume and contour over time. Scarlett added: 'The pigment also helps to camouflage any lip discolouration — think of it like the gloss equivalent of concealer for your lips.'
Charlotte Tilbury Rock 'n' Kohl Kajal Eye Pencils - £25
Charlotte Tilbury has added new kohl pencils to its ever popular makeup range. The new Rock 'n' Kohl Kajal Eye Pencils are the perfect solution for those wanting 'effortless, sultry smokey eyes' in seconds.
The new addition is a major improvement to Charlotte's original Kohl eyeliners, which launched in 2013. The new Kajal Eye Pencils are highly pigmented, ultra-creamy, and waterproof. In a test, 33 participants said their eyeliner lasted up to 28 hours on the eyelid and 10 hours on the waterline.
The three matte shades are Bedroom Black, Barbarella Brown, and Fig Smoulder, and the metallic shades are Smokey Bronze, Hypnotic Peacock, and Sapphire Nights. While reviews have yet to come in, Charlotte gave tips to customers on using the new Kajal Eye Pencils: "Line, Smude, and Smoulder. Apply along the lash line and in your waterline, smudge it out using the built-in smudger brush, or create Charlotte's iconic feline flick."

EastEnders star's emotional reaction to plot 'not done before' as fans reach out
EastEnders' Lauren Branning actress Jacqueline Jossa revealed all on her character's emotional new storyline about baby son Jimmy's health on the BBC soap, with fans reaching out online Amid an emotional few weeks on EastEnders for Lauren Branning, actress Jacqueline Jossa, who plays her, has shared her reaction to the plot that "hadn't been done before". In recent episodes Lauren has faced spiralling, almost relapsing and turning to alcohol following a sad diagnosis for her newborn son Jimmy. There was also the heartbreaking split with Peter Beale as the pair were torn apart, after Peter blamed Lauren's painkiller addiction on their baby boy being diagnosed with a severe sight impairment. Lauren knew there was something not right with her son days after his birth, but her loved ones were concerned for her and believed she was mistaken. Questioning if she had postnatal depression, her fears for Jimmy were ignored until she took him to hospital and he was diagnosed. In the aftermath, Peter has struggled with his son's condition, and it's pulled him and Lauren apart after his lack of trust in her and his cruel accusations. Lauren nearly relapsed and even cheated with Zack Hudson after Peter's action pushed her to the edge. This week we saw Lauren call Peter a "manipulator" and end their relationship for good, just weeks after they got engaged. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Jacqueline spoke about the moving storyline with Jimmy and shared her "honest" reaction. Jacqueline has been left overwhelmed with the response to the plot, with fans heaping praise on her portrayal. But it was the messages she was inundated with after the episodes aired from people who have been through or are going through what Lauren is, both with Jimmy's diagnosis and postpartum struggles, that left her making a moving realisation. Being "totally honest", actress Jacqueline didn't realise the impact her scenes and plot would have on viewers until it transmitted leading to huge praise for the star. Jacqueline told us: "If I'm totally honest I was excited to do the storyline, but I wasn't aware of the impact until it went on TV. "I thought I was telling Lauren's story and then all of a sudden it felt like I was telling a lot of other people's stories that I didn't really realise. In a way I am glad that I didn't go deep in with researching, cos then there would have been loads of pressure and I would probably have overthought it. "But I was really excited do it. It's not really been done so it's exciting." On the feedback from viewers, Jacqueline revealed she'd been messaged by so many people. She revealed: "It's been amazing, really amazing. It's nice to hear from people and talk to people who have been through it or are going through it. Even the postpartum side of the storyline, people who have been through it or are maybe seeing the signs." Jacqueline also shared her thoughts over Lauren and Peter's split, amid fans saying Lauren deserves better. She told us: "It's EastEnders and it's also life. "That is the thing. These things happen and when things happen in life, they take different turns so who knows."

I tested Aldi's 7 new beauty buys all for under £5 – a cult Charlotte Tilbury dupe is back but the blusher was my fave
Including the £3.49 lip balm that's said to rival Summer Fridays BEAUTY QUEEN I tested Aldi's 7 new beauty buys all for under £5 – a cult Charlotte Tilbury dupe is back but the blusher was my fave AFFORDABLE beauty products have a special place in my heart. While I love testing luxury launches, there's nothing more satisfying than finding a gem for less than a tenner. This year, more budget products than ever before have impressed me by far out-performing their price tags. When Rimmel Thrill Seeker Lip Ink Pen, £9.99, landed on my desk in January, I put it to one side while I continued working. But to my surprise, a few days later I realised I'd reached for it before every meeting that week to look more polished, and the colour had stayed put all day. It's not patchy or sticky, and the slimline nib means I can trace my lip line, then tilt the pen on its side to fill in the bulk of my lips. 10 The brand new Lacura Watermelon Serum promises to brighten skin Credit: Aldi Similary, I bought Maybelline Instant Anti Age Eraser Eye Concealer Color Corrector Pink, £9.99, on a whim with low expectations after a passport photo left me looking like I had two black eyes. The original version is my favourite budget concealer – even though I hate the sponge applicator, the formula and coverage is unrivalled. The light-pink hue is perfect for my blue-toned shadows and it applies smoothly. The sponge (for all its unhygienic flaws) helps control how much product is applied so you don't overload the delicate under-eye area. Plus, it layers well with my concealer, and makes my under-eyes look far less tired. 10 Aldi Luminous Filter is a returning fan favourite Credit: Aldi They're just a couple of the affordable beauty products to have made it into my regular rotation over the last six months, and I'm always on the hunt for more. So, when I heard Aldi were launching not one, but seven new beauty dupe products this week - all under £5 - I had to put them to the test. Here's how I got on... 10 Tara preferred the tinted Dulce de Leche shade of Lacura's Lip Balms LACURA LIP BALMS, £3.49 It only takes one look at these new balms to guess who Aldi used as inspo. Drum roll please... it has to be Summer Fridays. The tasty flavours are right out of the viral brands playbook - although Aldi's are £19.50 cheaper - and sure to be a hit with those who love sweet treats. Having tried all three, the 90s brown Dulce De Leche variety is my favourite, because of the pout perfecting sheer tint it delivers. On application, all three of the shades melted across my lips quickly, so didn't take any blending out, and felt buttery soft, with a gloss that isn't sticky or greasy. Aldi promise the formula is packed with Shea Butter and Murumuru Seed Butter to deeply hydrate and soothe lips - although I found they wore off quickly, and left my lips feeling tight and dry. 10 Lacura's bronzing stick is surprisingly long-wearing LACURA SCULPTING BRONZING STICK, £4.49 When I first opener the Sculpting Bronzing sticks, I was worried. There's very little variation between the two shades, and they're both very warm hued - bordering on orange. On skin, they're very pigmented, and you have to work quickly to avoid them going patchy. After some trial and error, I found using my fingers - rather than a brush or sponge - worked best, as the warmth helped melt the product into my skin. I'm extremely pale, so they're both too dark for me, but if you aren't paper-white, you'll have better luck. The formula layers well over foundation, and once it's set, it doesn't budge, which will be great for hot summer weather. I swatched both sticks on the back of my arm to work out which shade I should apply to my face, and despite removing both within a couple of minutes, they left a stain that withstood a bath and a shower! 10 Lacura's new watermelon brightening and bronzing serums were hit and miss LACURA WATERMELON BRIGHTENING AND BRONZING SERUMS, £4.99 EACH I'm a huge fan of Glow Recipe's Watermelon Serum, £32 - both the untinted and bronzing variety - so as soon as I saw the packaging of these serums I knew they were a dupe. Niacinamide is one of my favourite skincare ingredients - thanks to it's ability to reduce inflammation and redness, balance oil control and soothe skin - and both brand's hero it in their formulations. In fact, the first five ingredients are exactly the same across the two, so on paper you'd expect them to be similar. Unfortunately, that's not the case. 10 Tara put Aldi's new beauty products to the test The bronzing serum is extremely glittery, and very orange, giving me flash-backs to the Geordie Shore style fake tan of my teens. Thankfully, the untinted version was much better. It has a thick serum formula, that instantly cools the skin soothing any irritation. I used it for a few days, and my skin felt softer and more plump - although it does have a strong watermelon scent, so that's something to note if you struggle with fragranced products. 10 Tara couldn't find an occasion to use Lacura's shimmer face spray LACURA SHIMMER HYDRATING FACIAL MIST, £4.49 When this landed on my desk, I immediately question when I'd ever have an occasion to wear it. If you haven't already worked it out - I'm really not a fan of glittery products on my face. My skin is oily enough as it is, and I don't think the vampire look is very in. Formulated with antioxidant ingredients including Vitamin E, Chamomile, and Green Tea, the formula definitely leaves skin brighter and feeling refreshed. It took a few minutes to dry down, during which time the glitter transferred to everything I touched. I can't get past the school-disco levels of shimmer, but if that's your thing, you'll love the face mist! 10 If you buy one thing from Aldi's new beauty drop, make it the blusher LACURA BLUSH, £3.99 As far as I'm concerned, blush is the most underrated make-up product. So many people worry about where to apply it, or going to far and looking like a clown - but get it right, and it's the quickest way to add life to your face and revive your complexion. There's two shades of blush; coral - which has a peachy orange hue and candy, that's more pink in colour. Again, they're both extremely glittery - I'd love to meet the Aldi boss who's obsessed with the stuff! Supposedly, they're dupes of the iconic Nars Orgasm blusher - and while the packaging certainly looks similar, the OG formulas are not nearly as shimmery. Thankfully, after a few uses the glitter isn't quite so prominent - in future, I'd scrape the top layer of product off to get rid of it rather than apply it to my face. The blush has the perfect level of pigment, so you only need to dip your brush in once for enough pay off, but not too much that you risk over-doing it. You'd be hard pressed to find a better blusher for the price. 10 Lacura's illuminating base wasn't as pigmented as Tara expected LACURA LUMINOUS FILTER FOUNDATION, £4.99 Last time this was on shelves, shoppers went wild - calling it a dead ringer for Charlotte Tilbury's Hollywood Flawless Filter. I'd not tried it before, so I had high hopes. The product description claims it 'creates a flawless base and blurs imperfections' which sounds right up my street. The consistency is thinner than I expected, so I have to wear foundation on top to get enough coverage - which means I then loose out on the glow. As you can guess, it's also more sparkly than the £39 version, although I went in expecting as much so I wasn't too offended. Having experimented with it a few times now, it works best if you mix it with your foundation, or use your fingers to apply to the high points of your face rather than as an all-over primer. If you want a Flawless Filter dupe that's more like the real deal, I prefer E.l.f. Cosmetics Halo Glow, £15. 10 Tara wasn't a fan of Lacura's microblade effect brow pen LACURA MICROBLADE EFFECT PEN, £3.49 Tiktok goes wild for micro-blade effect brow pens, but in all honesty, I've never quite understood the hype. This one has three distinct tips, which do help to create hair like strokes, but the ink formula quickly spread into the fine lines and texture of my skin - so the definition quickly disappeared. With this kind of formula, it's really hard to control the pigment load you apply to skin, so you can quickly end up with brows that're far too dark. If you want to try the trend, £3.49 isn't too much of a risk, but be warned it'll take a lot of patience to get right!

Mum slammed for moaning about breakfast selection in Tunisia & gets told ‘if you want a full English go to Blackpool'
The mother has since responded to the backlash GIVE ME A BREAK Mum slammed for moaning about breakfast selection in Tunisia & gets told 'if you want a full English go to Blackpool' A BRIT mum has been ordered to ''go to Blackpool'' after she moaned about the breakfast options at her all-inclusive hotel in Tunisia. Mum-of-two Lauren Hudson came under a barrage of criticism just a day after a Brit nan Susan Edwards, 69, was less than impressed with the grub on offer in Corfu. Advertisement 2 The mother-of-two was ordered to 'go to Blackpool' after moaning about the brekkie options in Tunisia Credit: TIKTOK/@laurenhudson19 2 Lauren later told viewers she was 'fussy' Credit: TIKTOK/@laurenhudson19 Lauren jetted off to Tunisia with her family earlier this season and has regularly been sharing snaps on TikTok, sharing the sunny weather and poolside views. However, after inspecting the breakfast options at the hotel, the mother said she wasn't ''enjoying the food''. The buffet menu consisted of a huge variety of dishes from the local cuisine, with heaps of veggies, scrambled eggs and more. ''God knows what it is,'' Lauren could be heard saying in the video, as she walked viewers through the huge collection of meals. Advertisement Right next the different types of cereal Lauren also spotted eggs, a hearty porridge, a dish consisting of sausages and veggies. ''Doesn't look very nice,'' the Brit mum moaned. Hungry holiday-goers also had the option to kickstart their day with a range of healthy fruit, including watermelon, dates and a pile of apricots. Those keen to add more vitamins and minerals to their diet could also opt for a juice or indulge by the salad bar, with a range of dressings to choose from. Advertisement The all-inclusive hotel had also provided guests with several spreads, pastries and cornbread - to name a few. In the end, Lauren went for one croissant, as well as fried egg, as she told viewers: ''I'm not enjoying the food.'' Holidaymaker slammed as she says it's 'totally normal' to bagsy sunbeds before breakfast 'Go to Blackpool next time then' Since sharing her thoughts online, Lauren has faced backlash, with her video racking up 260k views and more than 1,300 people flooding to comments where they slammed her. One person reminded the mum: ''Different country different cultures, we don't offer Tunisian breakfast in English hotels, see how this works?'' Advertisement Another agreed, writing: ''You are in another country with other cultures - not sure travel is for you if you can't adapt - embrace it you will discover new favourites.'' ''Yeah, if you are just wanting full English breakfasts stay in England or go to Benidorm. You won't like many other place,'' a third advised. ''Go to Blackpool next time then,'' someone else urged. ''Looks like a lot of different options there. What else did you need?'' a baffled viewer wondered. Advertisement Hitting back at the critics, Lauren responded: ''I'm just fussy I guess.'' Experts weigh in on whether you should reserve your sunbed with a towel on holiday EVERY summer, hotels become the sites of frantic battles, as guests try to reserve the best loungers with their towels first thing in the morning. But etiquette and elegance expert Katarina, who shares her expert opinions about manners on TikTok at @ says people need to be less selfish and more considerate of other hotel guests. In the footage, she said: "If you're staying at a hotel, avoid blocking the sunbeds if you're not planning on staying. It's disrespectful toward other guests. "Unless the hotel has a reservation system in place, only occupy the sunbeds when you're staying by the pool." Renowned etiquette expert, William Hanson, believes there is a 30-minute grace period on poolside reservations. This is where hotel guests can use a towel or a book to reserve a spot for no longer than half an hour. William told the Sun Online Travel: "In the morning, at the start of the day, and you're by the pool after breakfast, then it's fine at 8.30 to put your towel on the bed to reserve your spot. "But later on in the day after you've used the lounger, and go off for a massage, for example, which is going to be an hour, then you can't use a towel to reserve the sun lounger." If you're grabbing some grub at lunchtime, William said holidaymakers are allowed to eat at the hotel bar or restaurant providing you're not gone longer than 30 minutes. He said: "It also gives your towel time to dry off." William said despite the grace period, "You can't hog the sun lounger for the entire day." Meanwhile, Laura Akano, the Principal Coach and Trainer at Polished Manners doesn't believe holidaymakers have a right to reserve a lounger at all. She told the Sun Online Travel: "I think it should be a first come first serve basis - if the resort doesn't have a booking system." 'No English food' Brit nan Susan Edwards, from Westerhope, Newcastle upon Tyne, jetted off in May with three cousins and her daughter for a seven-night stay at the Lido Corfu Sun Hotel on the Greek island. They were looking forwards to a week of relaxation, but the ordeal was "horrendous from the minute they got there," Susan said. She told Chronicle Live there was "no English food" on the all-inclusive menu and she was "sick to death of looking at rice" by the end. Advertisement The grumbling gran was also dismayed at only being offered chips "one day out of the whole lot" during her £750pp week-long stay. Now the hotel's manager, Makis Triantafyllos, has hit back - alleging Susan's complaints were a ruse to claw money back. He told The Sun: "From the very beginning of her stay, [Susan] demonstrated clear intent to fabricate complaints in pursuit of financial compensation, going as far as to complain about the weather." He alleged she demanded to know from the staff: "Why is it raining?" Advertisement The manager claimed Susan's attitude had been "sarcastic and dismissive" to staff who did their best to accommodate her. The hotelier also fiercely defended the menu, saying the food service is "generous and diverse, offering fresh salads, fruits, hot and cold dishes daily". He fumed that Susan's account of the food was "entirely false and disrespectful to our culinary staff". And as for the "no English food" dig - Makis said the Sun Hotel offers "world-renowned and beloved Mediterranean cuisine" with other options tailored to guests' preferences - including those from the UK.
