‘Rajesh Khanna's bungalow was always surrounded by 10,000 women; they were jealous I got to romance him': Mumtaz

Veteran actor Mumtaz opened up about her streak of hits with the late Rajesh Khanna, who is often described as India's first 'superstar'. She said that his fans were jealous that she got to romance him, and would gather in large numbers outside his house. Mumtaz scoffed that she could just walk over to Rajesh's bungalow, which was next door to hers. In an interview, she recalled that thousands of Rajesh's fans would be stationed outside his house just to catch a glimpse of him. Legends of his fan-following have been shared by his contemporaries; the most famous incident involves his car being covered in lipstick because women kissed it.
But Rajesh's downfall was just as drastic as his ascent up the Bollywood ladder. In the 1970s, after the arrival of Amitabh Bachchan, he found his stardom declining. He married the then-teenage Dimple Kapadia, but the relationship failed, with Dimple leaving him after a decade. In an interview with Filmibeat, Mumtaz recalled working with Rajesh at the peak of his stardom, and said, 'We didn't have a single flop, not even one. Distributors would buy our films just because Rajesh and I were in them. But it's very sad that artistes are forgotten when their films start flopping,' she said.

Asked about his female fan-following, she continued, 'When we'd shoot outdoors, they would make faces at me. They never liked me, they were jealous that I got to romance him. Women don't like sharing. They were jealous. And it's not like I had to work hard to catch a glimpse of him. We were neighbours. I used to look out of my window and see 10,000 women outside his house. I would think, 'Baap re Kaka, yeh toh problem ho gayi hai'. They would stand there, thousands of them.'
She said that Rajesh was very 'sophisticated', and was very 'choosy' about his partners. Rajesh was in a relationship with Anju Mahendru, but he dumped her abruptly and married Dimple Kapadia. Mumtaz, who remains close friends with Anju, said that she wasn't too bothered when she learnt that Rajesh and Dimple had tied the knot. 'She wished the best for him, and continued to till the end,' she said, adding that he could have married just about anyone he wanted.
Stories of Rajesh's downfall have been discussed by everybody who knew him. In an old article, journalist Ali Peter John recalled an incident when Rajesh went unrecognised at the airport, and had to sit on his own luggage because nobody offered him a seat.

This film faced 34 legal cases, still earned 225% profit, made lead actress an overnight star, movie is..., lead actor was... There are several films in Bollywood that have landed in legal controversy prior its release. Today, we will talk about one such movie that really underwent through trouble seas, and dealt with 34 legal cases. Despite being in bad publicity, the film did exceedingly well and turned out to be a box office hit. Released in 1982, the film we are referring to is BR Chopra's Nikaah . Starring Raj Babbar, Deepak Parashar, and Salma Agha, the film was based on the concept of triple Talaq. According to IMDB, the film was initially titled, Talaq Talaq Talaq. However, the makers later changed it to Nikaah. During that time, the film as well as the storyline didn't settle well with the certain section of Muslims, and as a result the makers of Nikaah faced shocking 34 court cases. Many people intervened during the screening, and asked to stop the film. While, some just threw the posters out on the road in anger. Not just this, lead actress Salma Agha was threatened and harassed. There were several outrageous letters sent to her, warning to leave India and move back to London. Despite all the controversy, the film did surprisingly well and became a box office success. Made on a budget of Rs 4 crore, Nikaah earned Rs 9 crore, making a 225% of profit. The success of the film catapulted Salma to overnight stardom, leading to several offers for many other films. Other than Salma, Raj Babbar, and Deepak Parashar, the cast also consisted of Tanuja, Hina Kausar, Iftekhar and Asrani. Those who wish to watch the film, you can catch it on YouTube, Hotstar or Amazon Prime. Nikaah is surely way ahead of its time, showcasing a quite bold theme out and out.

Jeetendra refused to work with this 'B-grade' actress, then director crushed his arrogance, asked him to…, she is…

Bollywood actor Jeetendra has starred in over 200 films in over six decades, The legendary actor once dominated the box office during his prime; he even challenged Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, and Dharmendra's stardom. But many may not know that Jeetendra once rejected working with a B-grade actress? Yes, you read that right, despite doing close to 200 films, Jeetendra once refused to work with an actress from the B-grade industry. However, Jeetendra's ego came to an early end soon after a director bashed him. Let's know which actress he refused to work with. The actress in question is none other than Bollywood's famous actress Mumtaz, who was one of the most popular actresses of her time. Not only based on acting but also with her unique style, Mumtaz made her name in the world of cinema. Although this journey was not easy, there was a time when she worked as a background dancer and did multiple supporting roles. But after some time, she received multiple offers for lead roles. Mumtaz recently revealed in an interview that Jeetendra did not want to work with her. In 1967, filmmaker V. Shantaram starred Mumtaz as the lead actress in his film 'Boond Jo Ban Gayee Moti', and Jeetendra was paired with her. V. Shantaram clearly said to Jeetendra that 'The heroine will remain here; if you don't want to do this film, then you can leave.' Shantaram had full faith in Mumtaz's art, acting, and beauty. He had known her since childhood. Recalling this incident, Mumtaz said, 'Sorry, Jeetu, but this is true.' She further said that in those times, no big hero was ready to work with me. In such a situation, Dilip Kumar saw her work and agreed to work with Mumtaz in the movie 'Ram Aur Shyam'. Mumtaz further said that if Dilip Kumar ji had not done this, she would probably never have become an actress. After Boond Jo Ban Gayee Moti, Jeetendra and Mumtaz worked together in many films such as Jigri (1969), Maa Aur Mamta, Khilona (1970), Ek Nari Ek Brahmachari, Chahat Aur Kathputli (1971), Roop Tera Mastana (1972), and Nagin (1976).

Saunkan Saunkanay 2 Box Office: Set to be a HIT in India passing Monday test, nears 17cr worldwide in 4 days

Punjabi film Saunkan Saunkanay 2 held well on Monday, collecting approximately Rs. 1.35 crore at the Indian box office. This represents a 43 per cent drop from its opening day on Friday, which had the advantage of a partial holiday. Adjusted for the holiday factor, the real drop is closer to 35 per cent, indicating a healthy hold. The film has amassed Rs. 9.35 crore in India over its four-day run so far. Overseas, it has grossed another Rs. 7.40 crore (USD 875K), bringing its worldwide total to Rs. 16.75 crore The Box Office Collections of Saunkan Saunkanay 2 at the Indian Box Office are as follows: Saunkan Saunkanay 2 is on track to gross over Rs. 12 crore in its first week in India. Some good daily holds could push it closer to Rs. 13 crore, which will be a very good result. There will be competition in the form of Housefull 5 next week, but that shouldn't hurt it much in mainland Punjab. Subject to how it sustains against the competition, the film is on track to gross over Rs. 20 crore in India. That will make it the first HIT Punjabi film in India, in nearly nine months since Ardaas 3. During the period, there were a couple of HITs overseas, some even did BLOCKBUSTER business, but domestically, it's been a drought. That said, the overall sentiment around the film remains somewhat muted. The business is expected to fall significantly short of the original Saunkan Saunkne, which is less than ideal for a sequel, especially in Punjabi cinema, where sequels often outperform their predecessors. The relatively underwhelming trailer and music, along with mixed reception to the first film, likely contributed to this. Nonetheless, it's good to see numbers being back for Punjabi films. End of the month will see a big release in Sardaar Ji 3, hope will be for it to set the box office on fire and set some new benchmarks.
