Hello world, and welcome to the game that absolutely nobody knows as The Glenn Roeder Derby. The late West Ham and Newcastle manager, who also featured nearly 200 times for the Magpies as a player in the 1980s, became the first person to win anything with the north-east side in 37 years when Newcastle won the Intertoto Cup (well, they were handed it by default as the last surviving Intertoto entrants in the Uefa Cup) in 2006 – following a seventh-placed finish the season previous – under Roeder's stewardship.
While the Intertoto is not recognised as a major trophy, meaning Newcastle's drought continues to stretch back to 1969. The Roeder years are not looked on particularly fondly by either West Ham (despite finishing seventh in 2001-02) or Newcastle fans, but how both teams would take a seventh-placed finish and a bit of silverware this year.
West Ham's season, however, is pretty much done. Out of all cups and in the league, they are too good to go down and too inconsistent to qualify for anything else. There have been signs of life under Graham Potter, who will surely be using the rest of the campaign to figure out a gameplan for next season.
For Newcastle trip to east London tonight is a little more pertinent. Not only are they just about in the hunt for Champions League/Europa League/Europa Conference League qualification in the league, but this is the final game before the Carabao Cup final on Sunday against Liverpool. Will Eddie Howe look to rest a few key players? Or could that be detrimental to the league season, and the sharpness, form and fitness for the players on Sunday? We will find out very shortly.

The Blues face an uphill fight after this compelling thriller in north Dublin. The League of Ireland champions edged out the Irish Premiership holders 2-1 over two legs in a Champions League qualifier last month and they are favourites to make the League phase after this result. Healy, however, felt decisions went against his side, particularly Matthew Fitzpatrick's red card, and now his side need to hit back next week. 'That was chaotic,' said the Blues boss. 'A lot of that was down to the officials, though I am not blaming them. 'I thought one or two moments were created by the officials. I spoke to the fourth official, when he could be bothered listening, as Matthew Fitzpatrick doesn't see the player and it was not intentional. 'He catches him but didn't mean to hurt him. He tried to receive the ball and there was a collision. Against 10 men in European competition so early on it was a big ask. 'I wouldn't say the officials were out of their depth, I know Greek football is a high level, but I felt decisions could have been given more consideration.' Linfield had an early let off when Mipo Odubeko headed wide from Kerr McInroy's cross but the visitors were rocked by Fitzpatrick's first half dismissal after a high challenge on Milan Mbeng. Healy's side responded with a Kieran Offord's drive over the top but they were on the ropes. The first half was explosive, with Odubeko missing a penalty after a Kyle McClean handball and then Harry Wood converted from the spot after Ben Hall's late challenge on the striker. After the restart Odubeko doubled Shelbourne's lead, leaving the visitors with a mountain to climb. Kieran Offord struck on 52 minutes to give Linfield hope. It was a sixth goal of the season for the former Crusaders striker in all competitions but he then saw his spot kick saved by Wessel Speel. On 77 minutes, Harry Wood's strike deflected off the post and Evan Caffrey stroked in the third. 'The penalty for Kyle's handball was baffling,' added Healy. 'I watch so many football games and I am mystified and baffled by handball decisions. Something needs to be change about that. Kyle is sliding in to block a challenge. I thought it was a poor decision. "I felt Paddy Barrett stopped a goal on the line, was that a red card? He stopped an intentional goal so the level of consistency wasn't there from the officials. He booked him because Chris Shields was asking the question. He has put his hand up to stop Sam Roscoe scoring an equaliser.' Healy said he was proud of his side's efforts but was now hoping for better luck next week. 'We need more luck,' he added. 'Shelbourne dominate the ball here but the players dug in. 'They have been to a tough place and showed they can dig in. With us missing a penalty, had we made it 2-2 it potentially could have changed things.'

The fed up fans have fired out a list of SEVEN grievances they currently have with under-fire chiefs. On a night when many Hoops fans would've been expecting to see their team take control of the tie, they instead watched their team labour to a forgetful 0-0 draw against the Kazakhstan outfit. It's a result that means there's still plenty to do in next week's 7,000-mile round trip to a country that borders China with Champions League qualification hanging in the balance. Loud chants of 'sack the board' echoed around Celtic Park at various points during the second half while chairman Peter Lawwell and chief executive Michael Nicholson were also singled out with other X-rated chants. Much of the Celtic fans' current state of unhappiness stems from the recruitment - or rather, a perceived lack thereof. Manager Brendan Rodgers has repeatedly spoken of his desire for more players throughout the summer. Celts supporters have felt the board should've built on last season's strong position, investing in more quantity and quality, especially following the exits of high profile stars such as Kyogo and Nicolas Kuhn for big money. Those frustrations came to a head with the chanting during Wednesday's Euro clash. Now, prominent ultras group Bhoys Celtic have made their feelings known. But the situation on transfers is far from the only issue they currently have with those running the club. They did, however, call on Celtic fans to unite and "back the team, hold the board accountable." In a lengthy Instagram post, the group said: "On Wednesday night we joined thousands of Celtic fans throughout the stadium in chanting 'sack the board.' "For us, this chant was not just about one poor result in a European qualifying campaign, although the last two decades have seen many of those - often due to a lack of timely investment to strengthen our playing squad, something many of our managers have called out during their time here. "While 'sacking' the board may not be a realistic demand, such chants are one of the few methods of airing discontent available to us due to the way our club operate. "For us, this is about the board's continuous incompetence and total disregard of the opinions of Celtic fans who spend thousands of pounds every season supporting the club and see little to no return on investment either in the playing squad, the stadium and the match day experience to name just a few grievances. "Examples include: "1. The recent season ticket price increase for the 2025/26 season. These were justified by the club as necessary to cover the recent national minimum wage and national insurance increases for match day staff - while we have tens of millions of pounds in the bank. "2. The severe lack of investment into an ageing stadium, with ordinary fans seeing no improvement of their match day experience over many years. "3. The lack of transparency around ticketing: tickets for away matches becoming more difficult to attain for fans who've attended matches for years, a dysfunctional ticketing office and a slow march towards pricing increases throughout Scotland which our club are complicit in. "4. The fans survey which was undertaken a year ago with much fanfare from the club, yet the results are still unreleased and excuse after excuse is given as to why not. "5. The lack of meaningful engagement and unwillingness to work with active fan groups to improve match day atmosphere, at times descending into total farce, such as the suspended ban currently imposed on the Green Brigade. "6. Unwillingness to explore or work towards a 'Celtic End' - one of the key results of the fans survey, despite many examples now of other clubs in Scotland working proactively with their active fan organisations. This total refusal to increase standing capacity despite overwhelming demand leads to 'solutions' such as fencing off parts of the stadium and introducing enhanced security checks with no regard for fan safety. "7. The lack of update on or release of the Fairhurst Inquiry into the unacceptable kettling of Celtic fans nearly five months on. "Wednesday night was just one poor result, but taken with the above issues, highlights our many grievances with the way the club is run. "While we may still win the tie and we may strengthen the squad this transfer window, the issues outlined above are just some of many which will not change without accountability and transparency from the Celtic board."
