This vast undertaking actively involves 6,444 dedicated student volunteers across the nation, with work steadily progressing in the remaining 821 approved hospitals.
Project Sarathi was formally inaugurated on May 5, 2024. A total of 816 students from 18 institutions, comprising 10 colleges and eight schools, collectively contributed over 50,340 hours of invaluable hospital navigation and support services.
These efforts led to measurable and significant improvements, including a reduction in average patient wait time from 4.2 hours to 2.8 hours, increased patient and attendant satisfaction, enhanced staff efficiency as students took on non-clinical support roles, and the productive engagement of youth.
From its beginnings as a local pilot, Project Sarathi blossomed into a national initiative of immense scale.
The ministry of youth affairs and sports has confirmed that various states and UTs, including Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, have either completed or have ongoing programmes based on the Project Sarathi concept.

In light of previous incidents where five men have lost their lives during similar recruitment drives for home guards, foresters, and forest guards in different parts of the state, police said they had adopted all necessary precautions for the fitness test. "The recruitment venue was strategically chosen within a 400m radius of the district headquarters hospital to ensure immediate medical assistance. An ambulance equipped with an oxygen support system, paramedics, and a team of doctors were stationed at the site," Nath said. The running tests were scheduled between 6 am and 10 am under cloudy skies with normal humidity levels. "Adequate drinking water and staff support were available every 400m along the 1.6 km course. Prior to the test, candidates underwent physical screening by doctors and submitted self-declaration forms regarding their health status," the SP added. Sahadeb Mohanty, a retired police officer, emphasised the need for candidates to be transparent about their medical conditions. "Those with heart ailments, blood pressure issues, or other underlying health conditions should refrain from participating in rigorous fitness tests. Prior medical screening and proper medical support during such events are absolutely crucial," Mohanty said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Of 75 districts, Noida at 72nd spot in malnutrition drive
Noida: Noida, often synonymous with luxury and high-rise living, has found itself grappling with a stark reality — a dismal performance in the state's malnutrition drive. It has ranked 72nd out of 75 districts in UP under Sambhav Abhiyan, a campaign aimed at identifying and treating malnourished children. During a review meeting of the district nutrition committee on Thursday, chief development officer (CDO) Shivakant Dwivedi expressed strong dissatisfaction with the district's performance. He issued a directive to officials, giving them 15 days to elevate Noida's ranking into the top 10. The July progress report, presented by district programme officer Tarun Verma, revealed that while the height and weight of 92% of the district's children were measured, 747 were identified as severely malnourished (SAM) and 3,427 as moderately malnourished (MAM). You Can Also Check: Noida AQI | Weather in Noida | Bank Holidays in Noida | Public Holidays in Noida Verma explained that rankings were determined by six indicators, including the efficiency of data entry on the nutrition tracker e-Kavach portal, management of SAM cases by the CHO (community health officer) and VHSND (village health, sanitation & nutrition day) levels, and tracking improvements in SAM children. "We lagged in uploading data for the 747 SAM children on the e-Kavach portal, follow-ups, and other markers. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Passive Income Ideas Sitting at Home Mone Click Here Undo This work is to be done by Asha workers, anganwadi workers, and ANMs," he added. The e-Kavach portal is a mobile and web-based health application used by frontline workers in UP to track patient data, particularly for women and children, and to identify healthcare access gaps. CDO Dwivedi emphasised the urgency of improving the district's ranking. "This performance is unacceptable. Fix the coordination issues and get the numbers right," he instructed officials. When questioned about the district's poor performance, Verma attributed it to a lack of coordination among departments. "But we've assured officials that the ranking would improve over the next 15 days," he added. The CDO also reviewed the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (maternity benefit scheme), noting that 606 women had been registered so far. Officials were directed to expand outreach and train anganwadi workers to ensure better implementation. The review meeting was attended by senior officials from the health department, women and child development department, and the agriculture department. More than a thread: Siblings who turned life saviours for rakhi bond
Lucknow: The bond of Rakshabandhan goes far beyond threads and rituals, a fact beautifully demonstrated by city siblings who saved each other's lives during medical emergencies. Atul Pratap Singh, 39, who was diagnosed with a severe kidney ailment at the age of 26 and had to undergo dialysis, said he is alive today because of his sister, Vibha Singh (name changed) , who donated a kidney to him. "I will always remain in her debt," said an emotional Atul. "My kidneys started to fail and doctors advised a transplant. Without any hesitation, my sister offered to donate her kidney. She was tested and it was a perfect match, and after a successful transplant, I'm now fit and fine," he added. In another example of a sister's selfless love, athlete Raj Sarki shared how his sister, Rajni Sarki, became a lifesaver when he had nearly given up hope. "In 2022, I woke up one morning with blurred vision in my right eye. The doctor found my blood urea and creatinine levels were extremely high. I had to undergo dialysis and was later admitted to the hospital," he recalled. Doctors recommended an urgent kidney transplant as his kidney function had almost completely failed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brain tumor has left my son feeling miserable; please help! In another case, Shazia said she needed a bone marrow transplant in 2023 after being diagnosed with aplastic anemia, a rare and serious blood disorder where the bone marrow doesn't produce enough new blood cells. "Deepak, 55, my rakhi brother since childhood, donated blood for me," she said. Samiya Hasan shared how her brother, Wasiq Hasan, 36, donated blood when she needed platelets after being diagnosed with dengue.
