What Does Patriotism Mean? 120 Bahadur Actor Ankit Siwach Explains

News18a day ago
Independence Day for Ankit Siwach was never just a holiday, it was a celebration of unity, joy, and pride.
Ankit Siwach has been winning hearts through his work in television, web series, and films, but behind the glamour of the screen lies a man deeply rooted in discipline, values, and love for his country. This Independence Day, the actor, who comes from a proud farming and defence background, opened up about what freedom, patriotism, and responsibility truly mean to him.
Born in Meerut Cantt, the city where the first battle of freedom in 1857 began, patriotism runs in Ankit's blood. 'Independence Day is always very special and I am personally very proud of being born in the Cantonment area. I have seen the Army very personally, with my cousins serving in the army. So Independence Day holds a very special place in my heart," he shares.
Growing up in a family of farmers and defence, discipline was a part of Ankit's everyday life. 'You see people from the Army jogging at 4 a.m. on Mall Road and coming home by 5 p.m., playing sports in the evening, it's a lifestyle. Even the school I went to, St Mary's Academy, added to those values. Being hardworking, disciplined, diligent, all of that comes first. Talent comes much later," he shares.
Independence Day for Ankit was never just a holiday; it was a celebration of unity, joy, and pride. He fondly recalls, 'We used to have a grand celebration in our school. After that, we would take our bikes, hold the Tiranga in our hands, roam around the city, play the dhol, enjoy food, play cricket, and have a great get-together. It used to be one of the best days of the year."
For him, patriotism in today's time goes beyond waving the flag. 'To me, patriotism means being a good citizen, not just of the country, but of the world. It's about doing the basics right: stop polluting, avoid corruption, conserve energy, prevent food wastage, treat people with kindness, pay your taxes on time, contribute to society, and love every living being around you. Be responsible, stay aware, and instead of blaming the system, work to become a positive part of it, because change begins at home," he says.
And to the youth of India, Ankit's message is heartfelt and powerful: 'Stay deeply connected to our identity as Indians. Be aware of our history, culture, languages, and traditions, these are our roots. If our roots are strong, we can grow higher and stronger. We, the youth, must take charge of our country, be responsible, and love and respect every element that makes India what it is. We are responsible for both what goes right and what goes wrong. So my message is simple: take charge."

War 2 (Hindi) Day 3 Box Office: Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR starrer drops big; Adds Rs 26 crore net on first Saturday

War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji, and starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani, added Rs 26 crore on its first Saturday at the India box office for the Hindi version. If anyone would have said that War 2, on its first Saturday, would end up with identical collections as Fighter on its first Saturday, they would be laughed at. But the unexpected as happened, like it always happens in the movie industry. With a weekend trajectory that's not even as good as Fighter, War 2 is on its way to sealing a poor fate. War 2 Adds Rs 26 Crore On Day 3 In India For The Hindi Version; Packs Rs 99 Crore Net In 3 Days War 2 opened to collections of Rs 28 crore net. It grew by 55 percent on day 2 (Independence Day), to collect Rs 45 crore net. With Saturday collections coming under its non-holiday opening day collections, War 2 is headed for a sorry fate. The movie's collections stand at Rs 99 crore after 3 days and the Sunday collections may just come under Saturday's, now. Even if we assume that the Sunday collections will be identical to Saturday's, the movie will stand at Rs 125 crore after the extended weekend. To reach Rs 200 crore net is going to be an uphill task if the movie fails to do Rs 8 crore net on Monday. The Day Wise Hindi Net India Collections Of War 2 Are As Under War 2's Dubbed Versions Disappoint Too War 2's contributions from the dubbed versions aren't any good, either. The dubbed (Tamil plus Telugu) collections of War 2 are slightly under Rs 40 crore net. By the end of the weekend, it may just be Rs 45 crore net or so, giving the movie an extended net weekend of Rs 167-170 crore (Rs 200 crore gross). The overseas collections of the Ayan Mukerji directorial will be around USD 6.75-7 million (Rs 58.50 - 61 crore gross) after the extended weekend, meaning that the movie will be sitting at Rs 260 crore or so after 4 days. Unless the movie manages some sort of consolidation over the weekdays, it is ending its run in the range of Rs 350 - 375 crore gross worldwide.

Will fully cooperate for release of The Devil: Actor Darshan

Agency: PTI Bengaluru, Aug 16 (PTI) Kannada actor Darshan on Saturday said he would 'fully cooperate" for the release of his film 'The Devil'. He also expressed confidence that his 'celebrities" — as he calls his fans — will also stand by his decision. The message was conveyed through his wife Vijayalakshmi's Instagram account. Directed by Prakash Veer, the first song of the film was supposed to have been released on August 15. But with the Supreme Court cancelling his bail, Darshan was taken into custody a day before, on August 14. Following which, the plans for the film were reportedly put on hold. However, Darshan said his first duty is to support the directors who believed in him and the producers who have invested crores of money in him. 'So, I hope that all the work of my film 'The Devil' will proceed without any hindrance. I hereby inform you that you (makers of the film) have my full cooperation. And I firmly believe that my celebrities (fans) will consent to this," Darshan is quoted as saying in his wife's Instagram post. Darshan had wrapped up the film in July. The reshooting of the film started in February after the actor was released on regular bail. 'Cinema is an entertainment medium and should be viewed only from the perspective of entertainment," the actor said further through his wife's post. Darshan was arrested on June 11, 2024, in connection with Renukaswamy murder case. Darshan was granted interim bail on medical grounds after he claimed back pain. He was then granted regular bail by the Karnataka High Court in mid-December. PTI JR ROH view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
