Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has lauded the manner in which his troops showed their determination to wrap up the league title early.
Sundowns bagged their record-extending eighth Premiership crown in a row, and 15th overall in the PSL era, after beating Chippa United 3-0 on Wednesday night.
While their run looked easy on the eye, it needed Cardoso to be smart in his tactical approach as they have bigger fish to fry in continental football later this month.

Sundowns will face Pyramids in the CAF Champions League final over two legs, eager to return to the top of African football for the first time since 2016.
With that clash in mind – the first of which will take place at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria next Saturday – Cardoso rotated his players and resting others, while tapping in those who were in the fringes for their contributions as well.
The match-day troops aced their roles to the tee in their last five games as they've won all those encounters, and kept as many clean sheets and scored 14 goals in the process.
Speaking during his post-match media briefing at Buffalo City Stadium after beating Chippa in their penultimate game in East London, Cardoso heaped praise on his players.
'I agree it was important (wrap up the league early), but I think the way the players committed themselves in the last games (was commendable),' Cardoso explained.
'Their need to achieve victories was so wonderful that it brought us results and allowed us to manage players.
'Throughout the last matches, we were not only able to take out players during matches, but leave out some players as well.
'Today, Mali (Khoza), and Aubrey (Modiba) stayed out. We didn't play Themba (Zwane) because the pitch was a little bit risky for playing him.
'In the previous games, Marcelo (Allende) and Grant (Kekana) stayed out.
'So, we are able to manage players throughout the last matches. The compromise to achieve was high!'
When Cardoso took over the reins from Manqoba Mngqithi last year, there were concerns about his prowess to defend the title and reach the Champions League final.
This stems from the fact that he was the third coach to take over the helm just when the team was starting to acclimatise to the philosophy of Mngqithi.
However, the Portuguese-born coach made his detractors eat humble pie as he could very well become the first mentor to win the team their second Africa crown in nine years.
Cardoso admits that their journey hasn't been easy due to the quick turnover of matches between domestic and continental football in the past few months.
And that's why they've had to use different match-day squads to prepare for the upcoming games, something that requires the rotation of the playing personnel.
'I know that some of you joked a little bit when I said we were preparing for matches in 20 minutes, but it was true,' Cardoso said.
'Our concern is that if we play the way we want you can use the games as a training session, and go from there.
'But of course, when you play badly, you'll get nothing.
'But when you commit yourself to playing good and the way you want, you'll get the best training sessions that you want to do.'

Sundowns will be duly crowned champions when they face Magesi FC in their last league match of the season at Loftus Versfeld tomorrow afternoon (5.30pm kick-off).
Cardoso is, again, expected to rest his regulars in the game as he'd have one eye on the Champions League final first leg clash at the same venue on May 24.

Kwayiba and Cupido lead Bafana Bafana to a solid win against Mozambique
ASHLEY Cupido and Sinoxolo Kwayiba scored two second half goals as Bafana Bafana beat Mozambique in an International Friendly match at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Tuesday. | BackpagePix As he'd promised, Broos gave every player he selected a chance to play and Chippa United's Kwayiba scored his first goal in national team colours and even walked away with the Player-of-the-match award. Not that coach Hugo Broos would have complained, the victory, better than what transpired at the same venue on Friday when Bafana drew goalless against Tanzania. South Africa's men's senior national team should have won the match by a much bigger margin such was their domination and numerous chances they created. SINOXOLO Kwayiba and Ashley Cupido scored second half goals that helped Bafana Bafana beat Mozambique 2-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Tuesday night. His goal came three minutes after the break as he headed in a corner kick by Mohauu Nkota. Kwayiba could have scored a hat-trick actually as he incredulously side footed the ball way off target when Oswin Appolis set him up on 86 minutes. He'd also missed another on 21 minutes. Ashley Cupido made it 2-0 with his first goal for Bafana after ten appearances by just lobbing the ball into the open net after the Mozambique defence had given the ball away on the left side of their box. Nkota was again responsible for the assist. The match could well have been over as a contest by half time, such was the domination Bafana enjoyed and their ability to pierce the Mambas' defence open. The hosts had no less than seven shots on target at the break but they found Ivanne Urrubal in an uncompromising mood, the Mozambique goalkeeper playing a blinder. Relebohile Mofokeng could easily have had a first half hat-trick had it not been for the brilliance of the number one who plays his club football for Sombo in Mozambique. The Orlando Pirates star was in imperious form as he hovered around the top of the box, switching flanks and varying his attempts at goal – shooting from range, trying to dribble his way past defenders and getting into good position to receive passes. He had his initial chance on 17 minutes when he made a fantastic break to receive a through ball and watched in disbelief as Urrubal used his outstretched leg to block his low shot that was headed in. Later on the Mambas keeper stopped Mofokeng's shot from range but the young South African did not give up. Late in the half, he tested the keeper with a sweetly-struck high shot but Urrubbal was equal to the task, showing his agility to fling himself up and punch the ball away. There were chances for Kwayiba and Nkota on ten and 21 minutes respectively but Urrubal was uncompromising, ensuring the scores were level when the referee blew his whistle for the break Yet there was no way just one man was going to withstand such relentless pressure as what the goalkeeper endured and it was just a matter of time before Mozambique were breached. And it took just three minutes after the break for the resistance to crumble, Kwayiba heading in Nkota's corner almost unchallenged. The Pirates man could have made it 2-0 on 54 minutes but Urrubal again came to the Mambas' rescue with a good save pushing away Nkota's left-footed piledriver after he'd cut in from the right. Mozambique had one chance late on but Ricardo Leaner pulled off a fantastic save as Bafana left Broos smiling from ear to ear, confident that he now has a much larger pool of players to pick his squad from.

Russell looks forward to Twickenham roar as Bath seek end to Premiership drought
Bath and Scotland fly-half Finn Russell is relishing the unusual prospect of being a Twickenham hero in Saturday's English Premiership final against Leicester. Russell is used to being regarded as a villan by fans at the English national stadium on his international visits with Scotland. But the British and Irish Lions number 10 can expect vociferous backing from Bath's travelling army of fans this weekend as his team go in search of their first English top-flight title since 1996. Russell kicked 14 points to help Bath beat west country rivals Bristol 34-20 in the play-off semi-finals, securing their second successive final appearance. "It is always good playing in front of a sold-out stadium," said the 32-year-old playmaker. "Having your home fans there, hopefully the majority of tickets are Bath fans, that will be special. "I know the other side of playing at Twickenham. Usually when I am there, it is 70-odd thousand fans against me." Russell is determined to help Bath make amends for last season's final loss, a painful 25-21 defeat against Northampton. "I think that motivation has been there for everyone," Russell said. "After getting that final and losing it last year, it is always quite tough to come back in that next year. "But I think everyone came back in pre-season in good shape and kind of ripped in straight away." Bath, who came top of the regular-season Premiership table, are chasing a treble, having already won the European Challenge Cup and the Premiership Rugby Cup. Johann van Graan's side finished 11 points clear of second-placed Leicester and Russell called on them to secure the long-awaited title at Twickenham this weekend. "At the start of the year, the goal was to win the Premiership. We have gotten ourselves in a good spot just now to hopefully go and do that," he said. "We have almost got back to where we wanted to be and hopefully can go one step further this year."
