Huntr/x And 11 Other Best Fake Bands From Movies And TV

Buzz Feeda day ago
I have to admit: sometimes, the fake bands in movies and shows go harder than the real ones. Honestly, can you blame me? It's not my fault they have such catchy songs...
These groups have given us performances so good, that some have even gone on to become real-life bands. Sorry to your favourite rock legends, but I'll take a Big Time Rush hook over a Rolling Stones riff any day. Here are 12 movie and TV bands that are so iconic, they make actual bands look like amateurs.
Huntr/x from Kpop Demon Hunters (2025) are pure queens. A K-pop girl group who double as demon slayers? Yeah, they're eating up the competition. Literally! They just became the first girl group to hit No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 since Destiny's Child in 2001. Their songs are total bops (especially "Golden"), that Netflix even hosted sing-along screenings for fans.
The Archies from The Archie Show (1968) were bubblegum pop royalty. Did you know that these comic book characters (turned TV stars) are responsible for the hit track "Sugar, Sugar"? It spent 22 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and is still the ultimate '60s teen anthem. If your parents haven't heard of this track, I'd be very surprised.
The Cheetah Girls from The Cheetah Girls (2003) were the ultimate Disney girl group. Their first film had a long list of achievements: it was the first DCOM musical, and the soundtrack sold 2 million copies in the U.S. They really said "world domination"! After the success of the first movie, they launched two more, plus multiple tours. "Amigas, Cheetahs, friends for life" still runs through my head on repeat.
The Blues Brothers from Saturday Night Live (1978) have one of the most unusual origin stories...Starting as a comedy sketch, Dan Aykroyd and Jon Belushi's cover of "Soul Man" hit No.14 on Billboard. They later made several albums and a movie, further cementing themselves in pop culture history.
Josie and the Pussycats from Josie and the Pussycats (2001) are coincidentally yet another animal-print girl group that absolutely ROCKED. The movie was super campy, the songs slapped, and yet — the movie flopped at the time. Honestly, it was just too ahead of its time — a story about the government using subliminal messages in music was A LOT for audiences back then. Today? It's a total cult classic! The soundtrack still hit its mark, climbing to No.16 on the Billboard soundtrack charts at the time.
The New Directions from Glee (2009-2015) were the ultimate glee club, period. Their cover of "Don't Stop Believin" hit No.4 on the Billboard Hot 100 back in 2009 — and that was just the beginning. The show was hilarious, unhinged, sometimes problematic, but always packed with amazing covers and original songs. The group even went on tour and had a concert movie. These stars were more than just a TV band, they were a cultural phenomenon.
Pink Slip from Freaky Friday (2003) gave us the Lindsay Lohan pop-punk moment we didn't even know we needed. "Take Me Away" is still an absolute head-banger, and even made a reappearance in Freakier Friday (2025), the sequel! The song was originally by the Australian band, Lash, but honestly? Lohan and Pink Slip made it even better.
Sex Bob-Omb from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2010) were messy, loud, chaotic, and totally iconic. It was a box office bob-omb at first, but overtime it quickly became a beloved flick by comic, music, and movie fans alike. Fun fact: musician Beck even helped craft the band's songs!
Big Time Rush from Big Time Rush (2009-2013) started out as a fake boyband and somehow became real. They toured arenas, released three Billboard 200 top-20 albums, and even had Snoop Dogg feature on one of their hits, "Boyfriend." These boys were so famous at the time that they even had One Direction open up for them. The show was hilarious, but the music? Legendary.
The Barden Bellas from Pitch Perfect (2012) basically made a cappella cool again. Every rehearsal, mashup, and competition scene was cinematic gold. Their performances had millions of viewers falling in love with show choir music, and yes — they even topped real-world charts. This movie single-handedly turned a cappella into a cultural moment, and gave the ICCAs (International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella competition) a major uprise in ticket sales.
I was once in a University a cappella group too, so this one hits close to home...
The Wonders from That Thing You Do! (1996) were so convincing, people genuinely thought they were a real '60s band. Their fake one-hit wonder, "That Thing You Do!" became an instant classic — and people love it even 25 years later. The song even reached No.41 on the Billboard Hot 100, proving that fake bands can still have amazingly catchy songs.
The Stiff Dylans from Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging (2008) were literally every teenage girl's dream. Georgia's crush Robbie played in this teen pop-rock band with the catchiest song ever, "Ultraviolet." Were they everyone's favourite? Absolutely. Were they my favourite? Also absolutely.
From saving the world to dominating the charts, these bands proved that some fictional music groups hit harder than the real ones. Who's your fave fake band or solo act? Let us know in the comments!

Paris Jackson's Family Rift Over Michael's $2 Billion Estate Deepens Amid Broken Engagement

Paris Jackson recently ended her nearly three-year relationship to fiancé Justin Long — and according to sources, the breakup was fueled by a growing storm of money, manipulation and family tensions. While the 27-year-old singer and model confirmed the split on July 31, Star has learned that the drama swirling around her has little to do with Long himself — and everything to do with the vast fortune left behind by her late father, Michael Jackson. The King of Pop died unexpectedly in 2009 at 50 years old. Despite reports that he was $500 million in debt at the time of his death, People states that his estate is now valued at around $2 billion. Contrary to popular belief, Star can confirm that Paris will not automatically inherit her portion of Michael's massive fortune when she turns 30. At some point in the future, Paris may receive a partial distribution of her inheritance, but for now, the estate's funds are being invested and managed by court approved executors. The real pressure on Paris is said to be coming from Michael's siblings — relatives who are not beneficiaries of the late pop star's estate but who see his only daughter as vulnerable and an easy target for undue influence. They cannot legally claim any of Michael's fortune for themselves, but they are believed to be urging Paris to push for greater access to estate funds, desperately hoping they might personally benefit if she succeeds. Adding to the intrigue is the role of Paris's personal attorney and business advisor, Craig Peters. Observers note there may be arrangements between them, with suggestions that he, too, could be angling for a piece of the Jackson fortune. Paris — who has faced personal struggles and admits she often leaves her financial affairs in the hands of her lawyer — may be unknowingly opening herself up to manipulation. This latest chapter comes on the heels of Paris marking five years of sobriety from alcohol and 'all drugs.' In a candid Instagram post earlier this year, Paris introduced herself as 'an alcoholic and a heroin addict.' 'To say that I'm thankful would be a poor euphemism. gratitude hardly scratches the surface,' Paris wrote in the post. 'It's because I'm sober that I get to smile today. I get to make music. I get to experience the joy of loving my dogs and cat. I get to feel heartbreak in all its glory. I get to grieve. I get to laugh. I get to dance. I get to trust. I feel the sun on my skin and it's warm. I've found that life keeps happening regardless of whether I'm sober or not, but today I get to show up for it.' Star has reached out to Paris's personal attorney, but he has not responded. Play Farm Merge Valley

Lil Nas X arrested and hospitalized after reports of possible overdose, police say

Lil Nas X was hospitalized and arrested in Los Angeles. The 26-year-old "Old Town Road" rapper and two-time Grammy winner – whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill – was arrested just after 6 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, according to Los Angeles Sheriff's Department inmate records. In a statement to USA TODAY, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Drake Madison said, "This morning, around 5:50 am, officers responded to the 11000 block of Ventura Boulevard for a nude man walking in the street." "Upon arrival, the suspect charged at officers and was taken into custody," the LAPD alleged. "He was transported to a local hospital for a possible overdose and placed under arrest for Battery on a Police Officer." Though the LAPD did not identify the man in their initial statement, Madison later confirmed the incident was related to Lil Nas X's arrest. USA TODAY reached out to reps for Lil Nas X for comment. The social media sensation's Instagram page has also been scrubbed except for 11 posts. One of Hollywood's most high-profile LGBTQ+ stars in the music industry, known for his eccentric forms of music promotion and signature humor, Lil Nas X has receded from the heights of his past viral stardom in recent years. In 2018, he broke out with his popular country-tinged single "Old Town Road" after dropping out of college. The track featured a buzzy remix with genre patriarch Billy Ray Cyrus, and the collaboration later became the longest-running No. 1 song in Billboard Hot 100 history. Two other Hot 100 No. 1s followed: "Industry Baby" with fellow rapper Jack Harlow and the solo "Montero (Call Me by Your Name)." The singer released his aptly-titled debut album "Montero" in 2021. He recently released the EP "Days Before Dreamboy" in late March, ahead of the release of his upcoming second studio album "Dreamboy," which is expected to drop later this year. He also boasts 11 career Grammy nominations. But earlier this year, the "That's What I Want" hitmaker faced health struggles. He posted an Instagram video of himself from a hospital bed late in April, telling his followers he "lost control of the right side" of his face. "This is me doing a full smile by the way," he said in the video, laughing in disbelief. "I can't even laugh right, bro. Oh my God!" He then joked about his condition on his Instagram stories, but assured fans he was OK. "Stop being sad for me!" he wrote. "Imma look funny for a lil bit but that's it," he said, adding crying emojis.
