
Nestle Malaysia's Q2 earnings jumps 20pct on 9.5pct revenue increase
Its revenue for the quarter grew 9.5 per cent to RM1.67 billion from RM1.52 billion previously, driven by steady domestic demand and resilient export performance.
In a Bursa Malaysia filing, the company said this reflected its strong global position, particularly as the largest Halal manufacturing hub within the Nestlé Group.
It added that continued emphasis on quality, taste, and nutritional value helped maintain strong brand loyalty amid a fast-evolving market.
Nestlé Malaysia declared an interim dividend of 70 sen per share, unchanged from the previous year, to be paid on Oct 2.
Chief executive officer Juan Aranols said the company is confident in its ability to sustain strong growth momentum and achieve profit recovery in the second half of 2025 (2H25).
"We are mindful and vigilant of the geopolitical uncertainties that may impact the business environment in Malaysia.
"Despite these ongoing uncertainties, we are committed to upholding our promise to provide great-tasting and nutritious Halal products, under Malaysians' favourite and most trusted brands," he said.
Aranols said the company will continue to accelerate its digital transformation and drive efficiencies to support brand investments and innovation, aiming to reinforce its market leadership.
This, he added, will be guided by a deep understanding of Malaysian consumer values and a firm commitment to making a positive impact on communities and the environment.

KAMPAR, July 26 — Bursa Malaysia has maintained its lead position in initial public offering (IPO) activities in South-east Asia, recording a market value exceeding RM1.9 trillion in the first half of 2025. Bursa Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Fad'l Mohamed said this achievement reflects the strength of the country's capital market and also the business community's confidence in Bursa Malaysia as a partner for long-term growth. 'Retail investors' participation remains strong and continues to be a major contributor to the country's equity market. The average daily trading value (ADV) of retail investors remains stable at about RM450 million, in line with pre-Covid-19 levels, as of the middle of this year,' he said in his speech at the 2025 Perak Stock Carnival at Tunku Abdul Rahman University (UTAR) here today. Fad'l added that there are more than 113,000, or eight per cent of active retail investors in Perak, out of a total of 1.4 million in Malaysia, with nearly 6,000 new Central Depository System (CDS) accounts opened as of the middle of this year. He said Perak's potential for further growth in the capital market is very high with its 2.5 million population. 'However, despite these impressive figures, our priority is to build retail investors who are knowledgeable, responsible and confident about their investments,' he said. Bursa Malaysia also emphasised the need to raise awareness about the growing issue of investment fraud, with the police reporting more than 2,000 cases in the first quarter of this year, he said. The exchange is intensifying financial literacy programmes such as Sens-Ability, and providing various educational materials for new and experienced investors as a preventive measure, he said. 'Bursa Malaysia also introduced investment products like BR Capital, Bursa Gold Dinar, and MyBursa to cater to various investor segments. 'We encourage everyone present to leverage the knowledge-sharing sessions and opportunities provided throughout this carnival to make informed and wise investment decisions,' he added. The carnival, held for the first time in Perak, is part of a series of programmes that started in 2022, after previous events in Pahang, Terengganu and Perlis to strengthen investment literacy among the public. C4, G25 renew calls for procurement law after latest audit report
The 2025 Auditor-General's Report Series 2 identified serious problems in how over RM460mil of public money was spent on land deals, university tenders and defence contracts between 2020 and 2024. PETALING JAYA : Two independent reform advocates have renewed calls for a legally binding government procurement law, saying it is essential to strengthen transparency, accountability and governance in public spending. In separate statements to FMT, the Center to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4) and G25, a group of retired senior civil servants, said the current framework — based largely on non-binding Treasury circulars — lacks the legal force needed to curb abuse and wastage. C4 CEO Pushpan Murugiah said the proposed government procurement law should mandate minimum disclosure standards for tenders, project details and eligibility criteria. 'This is to ensure that such contracts entered into are never fully obscured from public scrutiny,' he told FMT. Pushpan Murugiah. He said the law must also include accountability mechanisms at every stage of a project's lifecycle to ensure that public funds are used effectively. Pushpan also said such a law would allow legal action to be taken against ministries or agencies that fail to comply with procurement rules. He added that while deterrence is important, punitive measures like imprisonment should not be applied indiscriminately without addressing root causes such as coercion or systemic pressures faced by officers. The 2025 Auditor-General's Report Series 2 released on Monday found serious problems in how over RM460 million of public money was spent on land deals, university tenders, and defence contracts between 2020 and 2024. G25 said the repeated issues raised by the latest report reflected systemic governance failures, including poor planning and disregard for financial procedures. 'The proposed law should regulate direct negotiations, unify procurement processes across ministries and statutory bodies, and follow international best practices such as the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law,' the group said. The group also called for stronger enforcement of the Financial Procedure Act 1957 and Treasury Instructions, and urged mandatory training for public servants in procurement and financial governance. It stressed that civil servants must never carry out instructions that violate the law, even if directed by superiors. It also called for deterrent reforms, including criminal liability for senior officials, whistleblower protection, and full autonomy for oversight agencies such as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the auditor-general's office. G25 urged the declassification of government contracts currently protected under the Official Secrets Act 1972, saying public access would help reduce corruption, cronyism, and unnecessary spending. A government procurement bill is expected to be tabled in Parliament this year.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 — The risk of higher United States (US) tariffs on Malaysia as the Aug 1 deadline draws near is likely to weigh on Bursa Malaysia next week, although domestically-oriented counters are expected to remain relatively resilient, supported by firm internal demand and fiscal tailwinds. UOB Kay Hian Wealth Advisors Sdn Bhd head of investment research Mohd Sedek Jantan said volatility is expected to intensify as markets approach a critical inflection point in global trade policy. 'Domestically-oriented counters on Bursa Malaysia are likely to remain relatively resilient. However, export-driven sectors may continue to face pressure in the absence of a favourable resolution to the tariff negotiations,' he told Bernama. He noted that no formal announcement has been made on the revised US tariff schedule for Malaysia. 'Should Malaysia succeed in securing a rate below the symbolic 20 per cent threshold, we anticipate renewed investor interest, particularly in the manufacturing and electrical and electronics sectors. Until then, most investors are expected to adopt a wait-and-see approach, prioritising capital preservation over risk-taking,' he said.
