But according to an expert, a key car component that many motorists are unaware of could be the cause of heightened discomfort while driving during the summer months.
A recent poll by FixMyCar revealed that more than 50% of mechanics reported that over half of the cars they service have not undergone a full service in over a year.
And this often means that the pollen filter is no longer effective.
Speaking exclusively to Sun Motors, Matt Wrankmore, Head of Garage Network at FixMyCar, explains that this simple car part can help alleviate hay fever symptoms while driving.

He said: 'Most modern vehicles are fitted with a pollen filter, also known as a cabin air filter. Its job is to trap pollen, dust, and other allergens, making the air inside your vehicle clean and breathable - a godsend for anyone suffering from hay fever.
'However, problems arise when the filter is not replaced regularly. Like any filter, it becomes dirty and clogged over time, ceasing to function effectively. Instead of filtering the air, it allows pollen and allergens to enter the car directly.
'A clogged pollen filter not only exacerbates hay fever symptoms but can also impact airflow, affecting the car's heating and cooling systems.'
FILTER FAIL
Having a full service every 12 months is likely to ensure the pollen filter is replaced, as this is typically included in a full service.

However, it's important to note that a pollen filter replacement is not part of an interim service.
FixMyCar's latest poll highlighted confusion around car servicing, which may cause many drivers to miss this crucial maintenance and suffer unnecessarily during hay fever season.

When asked if they knew when a mechanic would replace their pollen filter, FixMyCar found that only 22% of drivers were aware.
In fact, 30% of drivers believed pollen filters are replaced during both full and interim services, while 20% thought replacement was not included in any service at all.

A further 22% admitted they did not know when a mechanic would change the filter.
FixMyCar spoke to 55 garages on its network, asking how many cars they see each month that have not had a full service in over a year.
Alarmingly, over half of these garages - a figure of 58% - reported that more than half of the cars they service monthly had not undergone a full service in over 12 months.
Even more concerning, 1 in 5 mechanics said that over three-quarters of the cars they see have not been fully serviced in over a year.

Wrankmore said: 'My recommendation to hay fever sufferers this year is to ensure your car has a full service if it hasn't had one in the past year. Not only will this help alleviate your hay fever symptoms while driving, but regular servicing is also vital for the overall health of your car.
'If the cost of maintenance is a concern and you opt for an interim service, but still want relief from hay fever, you can book a simple pollen filter replacement.
"Pollen filters are inexpensive but invaluable for hay fever sufferers.
'With a new pollen filter installed, keep your windows closed, switch on air recirculation, and enjoy a symptom-free journey. Just remember to replace the filter every 12 months or 15,000 miles.'

DO IT YOURSELF
For penny-pinching Brits, changing a pollen filter in a car yourself is both easy and affordable, with a standard filter typically costing around £10.
A carbon filter, which helps with odours, may cost around £20, while online prices for cabin air filters generally range between £11 and £30, depending on the make and model.
Better yet, no special tools are needed for the job - although occasionally a screwdriver or socket set might be necessary.
The pollen filter is typically found under the bonnet in a cold air collector box, or inside the car - possibly behind the glove compartment or in the passenger footwell.

Vauxhall are to use the platform to show off the new Corsa GSE Vision - which is set to debut at the Munich Motor Show in September before being available to drive and race in the game. But while most concept cars are bizarre and, in some cases, a little silly, this one truly serves as a vision of the all-new Vauxhall Corsa supermini that's due to arrive in 2027. This bold look is simply the car's potential high-performance GSE iteration and takes the form of a three-door hatchback with quite a few extravagant design elements. That includes staggered 21 and 22-inch wheels within huge wheelarches and the 'Vizor' design at the front, as well as new lighting to create a cross-like design. Naturally, for a souped up concept design, there's also an outrageous air intake and bonnet vent, as well as a roof-mounted wing and enormous rear diffuser. The rear sees a clean and simple glazed tail that leads into an illuminated Vauxhall badge and a lightbar. The cabin is also rather futuristic and purely conceptual, with a yoke-style steering wheel and a head-up display, including back-lit fabrics for driver information such as blind-spot warnings. Powered by electric, of course, the concept boasts impressive performance details with two electric motors - each producing 400bhp - to combine for 800bhp and 800Nm of torque. It's also extremely lightweight at 1,170kg, enabling acceleration from 0 to 62mph in just two seconds with an eye-popping top speed of 199mph. The new Vauxhall electric Mokka GSE has some serious rally vibes… and it's closely related to speedy GTI Mark Adams, Vauxhall's chief designer, explained the concept's role in introducing the GSE brand. He told Auto Express: 'We wanted to build this because introducing the GSE brand in the right way, it was important to put the vision here first. 'But it then happens that following hot on the heels of this is a real first production car. "It's not exactly the same as this, but then it's the first of several to come.' While the dual-motor layout is purely conceptual, the car uses the Stellantis SLTA-S platform, set to underpin superminis and SUVs. A production GSE Corsa is expected - but will likely feature a single-motor front-wheel-drive layout, much like its label-mate the Peugeot 208 GTi.

The electronic dance music festival, a four-day event held annually on the August Bank Holiday weekend in Daresbury, Cheshire, is located near Junction 11 of the M56 motorway. Their warning stems from pedestrians walking on the motorway or vehicles stopping to drop off or pick up passengers - which is illegal and highly dangerous. Offenders who are caught doing this may be fined, with those arriving by car instructed to use designated collection points which are clearly marked off the motorway. To this end, drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys to avoid congestion, while also following dedicated event signs - rather than relying on sat nav systems which may lead them onto unsuitable roads. For the event, extra police and National Highways traffic officers will be stationed near junction 11 of the M56 to manage traffic and ensure safety. Car parks for the festival site will open at midday on Thursday and close at 2 pm on Monday. Traffic from the north, south and east are urged to use junction 11 of the M56, while traffic from the west should use junction 12. Congestion hotspots include junctions 10, 11 and 12 of the M56 and the M56/M6 interchange at Lymm are expected to be particularly busy. Electronic motorway signs will be used to provide real-time updates on congestion and incidents. Creamfields, which runs from Thursday at 2 pm to Sunday at 11 pm, will have an expected 70,000 attendees. Watch Tesla test self-driving cars on London streets as it passes famous landmarks TAKE THE LEED Reading and Leeds Festival is also taking place over the Bank Holiday weekend, running from Thursday to Sunday. At the Leeds iteration, held at Bramham Park, around 90,000 attendees are expected and those driving to the event have been warned that roadworks on certain routes, including the M1, A1(M) and A64, could cause delays. Drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys, while on-site parking is included for ticketholders - with routes to car parks clearly signposted. Helpfully, a dedicated festival bus will run from Leeds railway station to the site from Wednesday to Monday, with tickets available online. As with Creamfields, National Highways will have extra traffic officers on duty and electronic signs will provide updates on incidents and congestion.
