Julius Malema's message to KZN police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi
EFF leader Julius Malema has affirmed his party's support for KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
This follows Mkhwanazi's media briefing earlier this month, in which he levelled several allegations against police management and the judiciary, among others.
Mkhwanazi said an investigation with the Gauteng organised crime investigation unit unmasked a syndicate which involves politicians, law enforcement, metro police, correctional services, prosecutors, the judiciary, and is controlled by drug cartels as well as businesspeople.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has since announced the establishment of a commission to investigate the allegations, while parliament agreed to establish an ad hoc committee.
'We are Mkhwanazi'
Addressing supporters at the EFFTurns12 rally at Khayelitsha Rugby Stadium on Saturday, Malema affirmed his party's support for Mkhwanazi, urging him to stand his ground against opposition.
'Fighters, we are General Mkhwanazi, and General Mkhwanazi is us. We support Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. We are not ashamed of Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi,' said Malema.

'We are calling on all Mkhwanazis in the police to come out and fight crime and the syndicates that have captured the police and our country. We will not sit back and allow our country to be controlled by drug syndicates.
'To Mkhwanazi, do not be shaken, because if they fire you, there is a position for you in the EFF so that you can continue to fight corruption in South Africa.
'General Mkhwanazi should know that there is only one home for the fearless, and that home is the EFF.'
'Come forward'
Malema further assured EFF supporters that the ad hoc committee's investigation will not suffer the same fate as that which investigated the Phala Phala farm robbery.
The Section 89 independent panel had found that Ramaphosa may have a case to answer regarding the incident. However, the ANC used its majority in parliament to vote against the adoption of the report.

Malema called on people to come forward with information.
'People must come to parliament and tell us who the drug lords are and who is protecting them, because we need to start fighting drugs. We want to know where the guns come from in the Cape Flats and Khayelitsha,' said Malema.
'You the people know the truth, this is the time and platform to expose the rot. Do not be scared, the killing of our children must be stopped now. Mkhwanazi opened the way, we must join him and restore peace and order in South Africa.
'As long as the EFF is in that committee, we will make sure that this does not become another Section 89 report they brushed aside. Phala phala is not dead, we will find a way to bring it into this committee.'

ANC secretary general Fikile Mbalulainsists the ANC will not abandon Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment or transformation policies despite US pressure, warning that sanctions would be accepted rather than sacrificing South Africa's sovereignty. ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has criticised the Democratic Alliance (DA) for campaigning against South Africa's transformation policies abroad, saying this has contributed to punitive US tariffs and threats of sanctions against ANC leaders. South Africa faces a potential 30% tariff on exports to the US. He warned the ANC would not abandon its transformation agenda, including Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE), despite pressure from Washington and its political allies. Addressing the media in the post-NEC briefing on Wednesday, Mbalula said the ANC is not prepared to abandon its economic transformation policies to appease the United States. 'You must understand that the tariffs imposed by the United States of America are going to negatively affect our economy,' he said. Mbalula accused the DA of lobbying during US visits to have policies like BBBEE scrapped, which he said aligns with longstanding imperialist attitudes. 'You can't, for national interest, say undo BEE to appease the United States of America because, among others, this is what the US wants of us, that we must do away with certain policies which, for us in terms of transformation, are not going to assist us,' Mbalula said.

ANC Sedibeng goes to conference
VEREENIGING.- The Regional Conference of the ANC in Sedibeng is planned for the weekend of August 15 – 17. This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster by the current ANC Sedibeng Regional Secretary, Jason Mkhwane. The ANC, together with minority parties, is currently leading the most municipalities in Sedibeng. These are the Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM), where Lerato Maloka is the mayor, the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM), where Sipho Radebe is the mayor, and the Lesedi Local Municipality (LLM), where Mluleki Nkosi is currently at the helm. The exception is the Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM), where, under the leadership of Peter Teixeira, the DA has governed for years. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Mkhwane said that following a special Regional Task Team (RTT) meeting held yesterday, July 31, which was held to specifically assess progress on Branch Biennial General Meetings (BBGMs) and conference readiness, the following key points were resolved: • Sedibeng Region has 71 potential ANC branches across 73 wards. For the regional Conference to proceed, at least 50 compliant branches (70%) must have successfully held their BGMs and BBGMs. • 33 branches have successfully concluded both processes pending final verification of the National Office. 'It is therefore necessary to extend the BBGM deadline to allow the region to meet the required threshold and ensure that all branches are given adequate support or intervention where needed,' he said. Mkhwane added that the RTT has resolved on the following revised timeline: • Regional Conference: Now scheduled for August 15 – 17 • Dispute Resolution Period: May 18 to August 13 • Deadline for BBGMs: August 10 'This extension is intended to ensure that the process is inclusive, credible, and reflective of the democratic traditions of the ANC. The region remains committed to building strong, functional branches as the foundation of a united and renewed ANC.'
