Superintendent of VSCS appointed to Ivy Tech Campus Board of Trustees
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Ivy Tech Community College Terre Haute has appointed Chris Himsel, Ph.D., Superintendent of the Vigo County School Corporation (VCSC), to the Campus Board of Trustees.
'I am honored to join the Ivy Tech Terre Haute Campus Board of Trustees, and I look forward to continuing partnerships between K-12 and higher education,' Dr. Himsel said. 'Ivy Tech is an immeasurable asset in our community.'
Himsel has held the position of Superintendent of VSCS since May 2023. Since then, Himsel has made a positive impact on education in Vigo County, according to Ivy Tech.

'Dr. Himsel's extensive background in education and community service makes him a tremendous asset to the Ivy Tech Terre Haute Campus Board of Trustees,' said Lea Anne Crooks, Ph.D., Chancellor of Ivy Tech Terre Haute. 'We look forward to the perspectives and expertise he will bring to the campus.'
Later this year, Ivy Tech said, the partnership between Himsel and Ivy Tech will launch a summer camp program for Vigo County 7th graders. The initiative will introduce students to hands-on experiences that will align with career pathways available through dual credit classes and Ivy Tech programs.

Ivy Tech freezes tuition through 2026–27 academic year
INDIANAPOLIS — The Ivy Tech Community College State Board of Trustees has voted to freeze tuition and mandatory fees for the next two academic years, ensuring no increase for both 2025–26 and 2026–27. The decision reflects the college's commitment to ensuring affordability and delivering value for Hoosiers, the school said, and follows Gov. Mike Braun's request and a unanimous recommendation by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education that all public higher education institutions freeze tuition to support Hoosiers. 'The action by our State Board reflects our commitment to putting students first,' said Dr. Sue Ellspermann, president of Ivy Tech Community College. 'Holding tuition flat builds on our years of work to improve affordability, access and completions for students, and that effort has brought positive outcomes for the state.' In-state tuition for full-time students taking 12 or more credit hours will remain at $2,577.11 per semester; tuition for part-time students will remain at $178.38 per credit hour. Out-of-state tuition rates will also remain unchanged. Ivy Tech's innovative Ivy+ Textbooks program, which provides students with all required textbooks and course materials at a low, predictable cost, will continue at $18 per credit hour in 2025–26 and $18.25 in 2026–27. The tuition freeze is part of Ivy Tech's broader mission to eliminate financial barriers and deliver high-quality, workforce-aligned education and training to Hoosier students, Ellspermann said.

Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce to hold 112th Annual Meeting
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce will hold its 112th Annual Meeting on Thursday, August 21, at the Terre Haute Convention Center from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The chamber of commerce said the event will bring together West Central Indiana businesses and community members to celebrate the past year's accomplishments and achievements. They said the annual meeting will also be a platform to highlight progress, unveil future initiatives and continue momentum across the business community. Ohio Blvd Project discussion continues
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Dozens of residents attended the Terre Haute City Council Thursday night, as they discussed the proposed Ohio Boulevard Project. Brickyard Estates and Paddock at the Park is a proposed $70 million project. It will include single family homes and multi family units located between Ohio Boulevard and Edgewood Grove. The homes are slated to be part of 93 home subdivision of 1600 square feet and with a price between $350,000 to $400,000. There will also be 11, three story apartment complexes. Many residents voiced they agree with the housing side of the project, but not the apartment side. 'This proposal, the money it will need to be paid back over a 20 year span. And knowing that 20 years from now, think about what those apartments potentially could look like and how they may downgrade and be a detraction from the jewel of Ohio Boulevard and Deming Park,' Resident Heidi Isaia said.
