Megan Thee Stallion Wants You To Embrace Your Inner Anime Hottie

Refinery2902-06-2025

If you're tired of your vacation feeling like a mundane checklist of activities, Megan Thee Stallion and Airbnb are here to shake things up. As part of Airbnb's latest initiative to enhance travel experiences, the vacation rental site has expanded beyond booking people's homes through Airbnb Services and Airbnb Experiences. And kicking off Summer 2025 is the ultimate anime game day with Meg.
In the "Otaku Hottie Quest," 12 participants take on a series of five challenges in the Otakuverse, a dimension Megan created dimension where the Otaku Hottie journey begins. The players level up to new tasks like styling their own preppy anime school outfit, a "floor is lava" hidden treasure quest, and a one-on-one Mortal Kombat competition on Xbox Series X. Along the way they'll collect charms from Megan, their hottie senpai, to make prize Quest Bracelets to take home.
'Bringing the Otaku Hottie Quest to life with Airbnb has been such an amazing process,' Megan told Refinery29. 'Anime has always been a passion of mine, so I'm really excited for the Hotties to get a little taste of my world. It's going to be an adventure that the Hotties are going to absolutely love.'
Services offers travelers all the same conveniences as a hotel, from spa treatments and personal training to private chefs and personal photographers. The best part of these offers is that you can enjoy them either at your Airbnb-booked trip or from the comfort of your own home.Meanwhile, Experiences introduces travelers to the lifestyles of locals so you can skip general group tours of touristy spots. All Experiences activities are exclusively designed for Airbnb, like touring the Notre-Dame Cathedral with restoration architect Axelle Ponsonnet, making ramen with an award-winning chef in Japan, and journeying into an anime world designed by our favorite Hot Girl.
We had a quick chat with Megan about her love for anime, what to expect from the Otakuverse, and more.
Refinery29: What are your top 5 favorite anime?
Megan Thee Stallion: They change all the time, but right now, I just finished Solo Leveling. So I would have to say Solo Leveling is number one right now. JJK [ Jujutsu Kaisen ], InuYasha, Hunter x Hunter, and My Hero Academia.
Well, to all my hotties that like anime, basically the experience is them going through quests, and we play Mortal Kombat and we eat ramen. There's a challenge where they can't touch the floors — that's really crazy. They really just get to step into my world with me and it's really going to be insane. You have never really done anything like this in real life.
It's really amazing to be able to introduce us to this experience because a lot of Black people never used to feel comfortable openly embracing Japanese culture.
But the thing is, Black women have always loved anime. I just think A) If you're a baddie and you like anime, people don't believe you. Which is crazy because how are you not allowing me to enjoy this experience because I'm cute? And then, people never championed Black people who like anime. They were like, 'Oh, you're a nerd, you're weird.'
R29: Which ties into the fact that we don't want people putting us in a box as a monolith.
Selected fans will join Megan Thee Stallion in Los Angeles on June 12. In the meantime, there are a ton of other special offers to check out to get the most out of your PTO days this summer. We're starting with an at-home deep tissue massage.

Jordan Chiles Swears By Those $14.50 Acne Patches, Too

She's a two-time Olympian, Miami Swim Week model, bestselling author — and now, Jordan Chiles is adding beauty ambassador to her already impressive list of accomplishments. The 24-year-old gymnast is the new face of Hero Cosmetics, the viral skincare brand best known for its Mighty Patch hydrocolloid stickers. Chiles, who was part of the gold-medal winning US women's gymnastics team at the 2024 Summer Olympics, has been open about her skin journey, including hyperpigmentation, texture, and breakouts. Chiles is buzzing with energy when we sit down over Zoom to chat about the new partnership. 'People always ask me, 'What do you do for your skincare?' So I was really happy Hero wanted me to be one of their ambassadors,' she exclusively tells Refinery29. 'Whether it's dark spots or a pimple that's coming up and I want it gone, I've always loved Mighty Patch.' In addition to her out-of-this-world strength, artistry, and athleticism, Chiles has also authentically shown up as herself via her competition glam; strong brows, fluttery lashes, glowy skin, and medal-worthy nail art all figured heavily in her most epic Olympic moments. As she tells me, beauty has always been something she's passionate about. 'My older sister, who is my hair and makeup artist, definitely gave me a perspective of understanding that glam is something to enjoy, have fun with, and be creative,' she says. Chiles swears by a less-is-more approach to keeping her sensitive skin looking and feeling its best. 'A majority of the time, I only use a good cleanser, an exfoliator, and then a nice, silky moisturiser,' she says. 'I keep it very simple, but make sure everything is hydrated and my skin looks good and glowy.' When it comes to favourite products, Chiles lights up talking about being 'down bad' (same, girl) for Hero. 'I have Mighty Patches in every bag, my car, my room, and probably in five different bathrooms,' she says. Her favourites? 'Literally all of them, but since I go to practice a lot, [I love] the invisible ones and the dark spot ones with the prickly points.' We also bonded over a shared underrated Hero fave: the Pore Purity Cleansing Clay Mask, made with glacial sea clay and sea kelp bio-ferment to decongest skin. 'It makes my face so soft — I love it,' Chiles says. 'I've been recently using it two to three times a week to get my pores in the right way and all that stuff.' For Chiles, this partnership — which includes brand campaigns, social content, and live events — is anything but skin deep. 'I have [acne] scars here and there, but now I'm finally at a point where I'm positive with myself and my skin,' she says. 'Literally, it took me 22 years to finally be like, look, Jordan, you're a gorgeous girl. You have beautiful skin. Embrace that.'

Mortal Kombat 2 Early Reactions Similar to Avengers: Endgame, Says Writer

Jeremy Slater, the screenwriter for the upcoming , stated in a new interview that the early responses to the movie are similar to how he reacted to Avengers: Endgame. Mortal Kombat II will serve as the sequel to the 2021 film Mortal Kombat and be the fourth live-action movie in the franchise overall. Like its predecessors, it is based on the video game series of the same name, developed by Ed Boon and John Tobias. Slater drew a comparison between the early reactions to Mortal Kombat II and his own reaction to Avengers: Endgame during an interview with ComicBook. Notably, Endgame debuted in US theaters in April 2019 and went on to become one of the most successful movies of all time. It currently has a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes after 551 reviews. The movie is also the second-highest-grossing feature film of all time, behind 2009's Avatar. Slater disclosed that Mortal Kombat II had been complete 'for a while' and that they had been 'waiting for the right release date and waiting for the right window.' He added, 'I have been to those test screenings, which are full of Mortal Kombat fans, and watching them react to it the way I reacted to Avengers: Endgame. They were cheering and jumping out of their seats. Every joke is landing, and they are loving it. It's one of the greatest moments of my life. That's why you get into this business.' The release date of 2021's Mortal Kombat was initially delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since its premiere, it has garnered a 55% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes after 297 reviews. The movie had a modest to good box office run and did quite well when it became available for streaming. The cast of Mortal Kombat II includes Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Lewis Tan as Cole Young, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi / Scorpion. The movie premieres in US theaters on October 24, 2025. Country Star's Puzzling Reaction at the 2025 AMAs Left Fans Screaming

Did you catch Shaboozey's reaction at the 2025 American Music Awards? Country music fans certainly did. Shaboozey's now-viral moment took place during the May 26 ceremony, when he and fellow country star Megan Moroney presented the award for Favorite Country Duo or Group to the eventual winners, Dan+Shay. Both Shaboozey and Moroney represent the new generation of country music. Megan's breakout success came in 2022, when 'Tennessee Orange' reached the top 10 on the Billboard Country charts. Shaboozey (born Collins Chibueze) had the biggest hit of 2024 with 'A Bar Song (Tipsy),' going 19 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. While these two represent country music's future, something Megan said about its past left Shaboozey briefly speechless. In the lead-up to presenting the award, Shaboozey honored Charley Pride, who won the inaugural American Music Award for Favorite Male Country Artist in 1974. 'That same year,' said Megan, 'Favorite Female Artist went to Lynn Anderson, and this award [Favorite Country Duo or Group] went to The Carter Family, who basically invented country music.' Shaboozey then paused and let out a laugh. While this could have been him reading the next part on the teleprompter, the pause was all the Internet needed. 'Shaboozey's face when she said the Carter Family 'created country music' is frying me!' wrote one fan on X. 'The way his soul left his body from cringing,' said another, while a third wrote, 'his reaction is everything.' The Carter Family rose to fame in the 1920s and is considered highly influential in the development of country music as a genre. In 1974, the era Megan referenced, the Carter Family was two generations older, according to The Tennessean, with 'Mother' Maybelle Carter and the Carter Sisters (June and Anita) operating under the 'Carter Family' name. The Tennessean notes that 'traditional' country music comes from African, English, German, and other folk traditions, and that a Black artist named Lesley Riddle taught many of the Appalachian folk songs to A.P. Carter and the rest of the Carter Family. Maybelle's daughter, June Carter, was a member of the group. She retained her maiden name when she married Johnny Cash, going by June Carter Cash until her death in Star's Puzzling Reaction at the 2025 AMAs Left Fans Screaming first appeared on Parade on May 27, 2025
