Agartala, Jun 14 (PTI) The Tripura unit of the BJP on Saturday staged protest rallies across the state protesting the attack and vandalisation of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral house in Bangladesh.
'We took out rallies in all the organisational districts of the party, condemning the attack by fundamentalist groups. Under Muhammad Yunus, a chaotic situation has been created in Bangladesh and minorities are facing hardships,' Das told reporters.
'The attack on Tagore's ancestral house is an attack on Bengali heritage and our identity. If such attacks continue, we will launch massive protests in future,' he said.
The party's media in-charge, Sunit Sarkar, said that under the Yunus regime, it appears fundamentalists have a free run in Bangladesh.
'The attack on Tagore's ancestral house is a glaring example of how fundamentalists have become active in the neighbouring country. The BJP will not remain silent if such a situation continues to prevail,' he said.
Tipra Motha Party (TMP) supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma said, 'How do we expect that a nation, which could not show respect to its father of the nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will tolerate Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore?' 'The library of Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya at Comilla was vandalised senselessly by fundamentalist groups. We strongly condemned the attack on Tagore's house. PWD to check feasibility of flyover from Sonia Vihar to Delhi-U.P. border
The Public Works Department (PWD) has started the process to engage consultants to prepare a detailed feasibility report for an elevated corridor in Sonia Vihar to Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border near Tronica City, to decongest areas in northeast Delhi, officials aware of the matter said on Saturday. The ₹500 crore elevated road will run approximately six kilometres from Nanaksar Gurudwara in Sonia Vihar. It is the first flyover project announced by the BJP government in Delhi after PWD minister Parvesh Verma took charge. Officials said that the corridor is part of a larger integrated transit corridor development and street network plan aimed at easing vehicular movement along one of the city's interstate arterial stretches at an estimated consultancy cost of ₹1.52 crore. 'The corridor witnesses significant traffic during both peak and non-peak hours… Construction of an elevated road may improve traffic flow and help reduce congestion issues, and appears constructible on the existing median/central verge without major hindrance,' the tender document reads. The consultant will be first required to involve surveys including traffic counts, topographical mapping, lane configuration assessments, and cost estimation for land acquisition and utility shifting. In the second stage, it will include detailed feasibility like 3D walk-throughs, soil investigations, environmental and heritage assessments, and multimodal integration plans with metro, BRT, and local transport networks. The consultant is then expected to prepare three alternative proposals for the corridor's alignment, assess each for viability, and present a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis, including potential savings in travel time, fuel consumption, and reduction in emissions. The consultant will also be responsible for obtaining No Objection Certificates (NOCs) and approvals from over 20 agencies including DUAC, UTTIPEC, ASI, fire department, DMRC and DDA. The project also plans to include pedestrian-friendly design with footpaths, signage, landscaping, and provisions for street furniture and universal access, along with stormwater infrastructure and integrated rainwater harvesting features. The elevated road is set to start from Nanaksar Gurudwara T-point and will cross the Wazirabad road to go further till Tronica City near UP border. The existing Sonia Viahr-Pusta Road is a 100-metre-wide, three-lane stretch that carries traffic from both directions. The new elevated road will span approximately 5,750 metres with pillars constructed on both sides to minimise land acquisition and environmental impact. Officials added that the interstate traffic going to Tronica City will be on the elevated road, while the existing road will be used by the local traffic, thereby reducing conflict points. 'Due to the large number of trees in the area, we decided that an elevated road will be the most sustainable option. We are committed to protecting Delhi's environment while addressing its infrastructure needs,' the minister had said. PWD officials and once the DPR is prepared, it will take about two years to obtaining permissions, issue a tender and finish construction.

Speaking at a press conference, Saini criticised the AAP-led Punjab govt for allegedly denying Haryana its share of drinking water from the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB). "When Haryana only seeks water to drink, this govt, despite Punjab being the land of great Gurus, has turned it into a political drama," he said. Row over dismissal of Muslim workers at Shani Shingnapur temple
MUMBAI: Controversy has erupted over the dismissal of 114 workers from the Muslim community by the Shri Shaneshwar Devasthan, the trust that manages the Shani Shingnapur temple in Ahilyanagar district. The 144 workers are among a total 167 workers who have been dismissed, allegedly on disciplinary grounds, for failure to perform their duties. The temple, in Shani Shingnapur village, in Nevasa tehsil, is patronised by lakhs of devotees from all over the country. The temple trust also runs various public service institutions like hospitals, hostels and solid waste management projects. Last month, a video went viral online, showing Muslim workers performing maintenance work and painting the property. Local BJP workers along with activists of an outfit called the Sakal Hindu Samaj objected, and performed a purification ceremony at the temple. Following protests, the trust dismissed the workers, who had been employed in various departments such as maintenance, solid waste management, agriculture etc. Asked if the action amounted to discrimination based on religion, Tushar Bhosale, who heads the BJP's spiritual cell, said, 'Various organisations are registered with the charity commissioner and we have no objection to Muslims or people from any other religion working there. But the Shani Shingnapur temple is a Hindu shrine running on donations given by Hindus for religious reasons. This money should be used for Hindus only, and we will not allow non-Hindus to work in Hindu shrines.' However, Shri Shaneshwar Devasthan chief executive officer GK Darandale claimed that no one was removed for religious or caste reasons. 'The temple trust employs 2,464 workers but only 900 have been active. We removed the 167 workers for not performing their duties and irregular attendance for the last few months. Along with Muslims, there are Hindus and people from different castes in the list of 167 workers. They were working on a daily-wage basis.'
