Reports: Canadiens acquire D Noah Dobson in sign-and-trade with Islanders
June 27 - The Montreal Canadiens acquired Noah Dobson in a trade with the New York Islanders and agreed to sign the top-pair defenseman to an eight-year, $76 million contract extension, multiple media outlets reported on Friday.
Per reports, the Islanders will receive forward Emil Heineman and both of Montreal's first-round picks (Nos. 16 and 17) in the 2025 NHL Draft.
Dobson, 25, was a pending restricted free agent after wrapping up a three-year, $12 million contract last season.
He recorded 39 points (10 goals, 29 assists) and averaged 23:16 of ice time in 71 games last season.
Dobson has totaled 230 points (50 goals, 180 assists) in 388 career games since being selected by the Islanders with the 12th overall pick of the 2018 NHL Draft.
Heineman, 23, had 18 points (10 goals, eight assists) in 62 games with the Canadiens last season. He was held without a point in four contests during the 2023-24 season.

June 28 - Jose Berrios tossed seven scoreless innings to lead the visiting Toronto Blue Jays to a 9-0 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Friday night. In the seventh, Addison Barger scored on Alejandro Kirk's double to extend the lead to 4-0 before Gimenez drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Guerrero to stretch Toronto's advantage to 5-0. Toronto's four-run eighth featured an RBI single by Springer, a sacrifice fly by Myles Straw and a two-run single by Gimenez. Islanders select Matthew Schaefer No. 1 at 2025 NHL Draft
June 28 - The New York Islanders selected defenseman Matthew Schaefer with the first overall pick at the 2025 NHL Draft on Friday afternoon in Los Angeles. Schaefer, who will turn 18 on Sept. 5, played for the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League the past two seasons. The 6-foot-2, 183-pound Hamilton, Ontario native was limited to 17 games with Erie last season after missing the first nine with mononucleosis and then breaking his right clavicle on Dec. 27 while playing for Canada at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championships. Schaefer was the second-youngest player on Canada's World Junior roster, two months older than forward Gavin McKenna, who isn't eligible until the 2026 NHL Draft. The day before he was injured, Schaefer scored an empty-net goal and had an assist in Canada's 4-0 victory against Finland in the tournament opener. Schaefer lost his mother, Jennifer, to breast cancer in February 2024, two months after his billet mother, Emily Matson, died in an apparent suicide. Despite having the 10th-best chance of winning the draft lottery at 3.5 percent, the Islanders landed the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NHL Draft last month, the first time since drafting John Tavares No. 1 overall in 2009. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman was slated to announce the first-round picks for the first time since he took over the position in 1993. This year also marked the first time team staffs did not attend the draft, but rather participated from their home cities. "The clubs asked for this," Bettman said in February. TNT Sports stepping away from NBA TV
June 27 - TNT Sports will relinquish oversight of NBA TV operations, it was announced today by TNT Sports Chair and CEO Luis Silberwasser. After a 17-year run with TNT Sports, day-to-day operations will revert to the league on Oct. 1. "We made several proposals to continue to provide services and operate the NBA TV network and related digital assets," Silberwasser wrote in a memo to employees of the Warner Bros. Discovery cable unit, as reported by Sportico. "However, we were unable to agree on a path forward that recognized the value of our expertise, quality content and operational excellence that our fans and partners have come to expect from TNT Sports." In July 2024, the league announced a new 11-year agreement with the Walt Disney Company, NBCUniversal and Amazon Prime Video to broadcast approximately 75 games on linear television in addition to all national games being available on streaming services. TNT's agreement called for a minimum of 15 games on broadcast television. TNT will continue to generate digital content for the league through Bleacher Report and House of Highlights and maintain editorial control of the Inside the NBA studio show. The highly popular program that features Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, Shaquille O'Neal and Ernie Johnson will air on ESPN and ABC. --Field Level Media
