Malaysia scores RM1.16bil in potential sales at Paris Airshow
The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) said IPAS 2025, held from June 16 to 22, 2025, in Le Bourget, France, served as a platform for Malaysia to showcase its evolving aerospace ecosystem, from advanced manufacturing and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) to aviation training and New Space technologies.
"The Malaysian delegation engaged in 145 high-impact business meetings with global buyers, original equipment manufacturers and strategic stakeholders.
"Eleven Malaysian companies participated, representing key sub-sectors such as composite aerostructures, aircraft systems, defence-related tech, hydrogen-powered gensets, and fan case manufacturing," it said in a statement today.
MATRADE chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz said the strong outcome at the Paris Airshow demonstrates growing global confidence in Malaysia's end-to-end aerospace capabilities, from precision engineering and MRO to New Space innovation
"This momentum reflects the nation's deepening integration into global supply chains, particularly in Europe and the Asia-Pacific. Malaysian exporters must seize this opportunity to scale their international footprint," he said.
Mohd Mustafa said Malaysia's aerospace exports reached RM3.63 billion in the first five months of 2025, signalling continued sectoral resilience and relevance.
Meanwhile, MATRADE noted that Malaysia's participation in IPAS aligns with the country's strategic aspirations as outlined in the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 and the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030, which identify aerospace as a core driver of future-ready industrial transformation.
"With a certified supply chain ecosystem, investor-friendly policies, and a highly skilled talent pool, Malaysia offers global aerospace players a compelling and competitive partnership hub in Southeast Asia," it added.

Palm falls on lower edible oils at Dalian
JAKARTA: Malaysian palm oil futures opened lower on Thursday as the market tracked lower edible oil prices at the Dalian exchange. The benchmark palm oil contract for October delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange lost 26 ringgit, or 0.59 per cent, to 4,409 ringgit (US$1,051.26) a metric ton in early trade. Dalian's most-active soyoil contract fell 0.14 per cent, while its palm oil contract declined 0.09 per cent. Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade were also down 0.13 per cent. Palm oil tracks price movements of rival edible oils, as it competes for a share of the global vegetable oils market. China announced preliminary anti-dumping duties on Canadian canola imports on Tuesday, which will be effective from Thursday, escalating a year-long trade dispute that began with Ottawa's imposition of tariffs on Chinese electric vehicle imports last August. Malaysia raised its September crude palm oil reference price, a change that increases the export duty rate to 10 per cent, a circular on the Malaysian Palm Oil Board website showed on Wednesday. Oil prices edged higher on Thursday, regaining ground after a sell-off in the previous session, with the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin raising risk premiums in the market. Stronger crude oil futures make palm a more attractive option for biodiesel feedstock. The ringgit, the palm's currency of trade, strengthened 0.26 per cent against the dollar, making the commodity more expensive for buyers holding foreign currencies. Palm oil still targets a range of 4,388-4,400 ringgit per metric ton, as it failed to break strong resistance at 4,455 ringgit, Reuters technical analyst Wang Tao said. The US dollar was under pressure on Thursday as traders piled into wagers that the Federal Reserve will resume cutting interest rates next month, powering Bitcoin to a record high, while a blistering rally in regional stocks took a breather.

Avangaad unlocks RM44.5m to drive strategic growth
KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia Main Market-listed marine operations service and solutions provider Avangaad Bhd has completed the sale of its floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessel for US$10.5 million (approximately RM44.5 million), realising an immediate gain of RM29.4 million. The divestment delivers RM44.5 million in cash proceeds, which will be strategically redeployed into higher-yielding, longer-tenured assets in line with Avangaad's long-term growth strategy. This move also provides greater financial flexibility to strengthen the group's capacity for sustaining a balanced fleet and expanding service offerings across both oil and gas (O&G) and non-O&G markets. Executive director Datuk Wira Mubarak Hussain Akhtar Husin described the transaction as a move to 'create optionality' for the group. 'We are monetising this asset at the right time to ensure Avangaad remains agile and well-capitalised. In asset strategy, success lies in aligning capability with contract tenure. Our fleet includes vessels capable of securing decade-long commitments, each contributing to long-term portfolio optimisation,' he said. Datuk Wira Mubarak added that the proceeds act as a natural hedge, enhancing the group's resilience to cyclical market changes while positioning it to capture opportunities that improve earnings visibility. 'The capital unlocked further strengthens our agility and decisiveness, setting a clear course to redefine integrated maritime solutions in the region,' he said. The next capital deployment is currently under review. The gain from this sale underscores Avangaad's stable operational cash flow and its readiness to pursue expanded charter contract opportunities.
