Two stalwarts of British design heritage are joining forces this summer, as Smythson of Bond Street opens a new concession in Liberty's Regent Street flagship. The move brings together two 19th-century-founded brands whose reputations have been built on craftsmanship, quality materials and a certain understated luxury.
The concession, which opens on 14 August in Liberty's third-floor homeware department, offers Smythson's hallmark diaries, notebooks and stationery alongside a tightly edited selection of leather goods and best-selling bags. In keeping with the brand's tradition, an in-store personalisation service allows customers to foil-stamp initials or motifs in gold or silver.
This is not simply a co-location exercise but a deliberate pairing of sensibilities. Liberty, founded in 1875, has long been synonymous with distinctive prints and artisanal collaborations; Smythson, established in 1887, is known for its signature Nile Blue packaging, fine leatherwork and the Panama diary. Both have maintained relevance across changing fashion cycles by leaning on heritage while selectively modernising product lines.
To mark the launch, the two brands have developed an exclusive Smythson x Liberty collection. The first edit, arriving this month, features notebooks and diaries in Liberty Purple, Nile Blue and seasonal Coral, lined with Liberty's archival silk prints and available in Panama cross-grain and Mara croc-embossed leathers. A second drop in November will extend the colour story into travel accessories, including passport covers and luggage tags in Liberty Purple Mara leather.
The collection will be sold in the UK exclusively through Liberty's flagship store and its website, with international orders available via Smythson.com. While neither brand discloses sales by product category, both have cited steady growth in leather goods and personalised stationery in recent trading updates, a segment where cross-brand collaborations tend to command higher price points and repeat custom.

A new list has been made of the "dirtiest" beaches in the UK as many Brits are heading to the coast this month during school summer holidays to enjoy the hot weather Brits have been given a list of the dirtiest beaches in the UK where there have even been reports of human faeces found, according to new research. ‌ With the exceptionally hot weather so far this year many people have taken advantage by heading to the coast on holiday and some have been left shocked at the state of the beaches they have visited. Experts have also told how there is a lot of litter which is lift behind after vast crowds turn up with plastics a particular problem as it is a hazard for local wildlife. ‌ And for those wondering which is the dirtiest beach, Skegness Beach in Lincolnshire has been named as the worst offender, closely followed by Margate Main Sands and Formby Beach in Merseyside. ‌ The research was carried out by plastic waste specialists at have listed the most litter-strewn beaches in the UK. The experts analysed TripAdvisor reviews to determine how many mentioned litter on the beach. One review of Skegness Beach from June 2025 warned: "Avoid the grass dunes between the car park and the beach. Another visitor lamented: "Unfortunately, on the walk down the beach, we passed a lot of trash, dirty nappies and baby wipes strewn about the place in one area, and broken glass." Despite some comparing Skegness to North Korea and Syria as the worst place to visit, it continues to be a popular destination for many British families. ‌ A review posted in May 2025 reads: "Skegness is a proper seaside resort. It has everything that you expect from a trip to the coast and a lot more besides. From the iconic Clock Tower to its many attractions. "But for us the best part was the beach, immaculate golden sands with plenty of places to buy ice cream, fresh food and drinks (including beer and wine). Well done Skeggy! ! ! One visitor grumbled that they discovered the car park completely occupied by 10:30am and the coastline already packed with crowds and strewn with debris. Numerous other beachgoers remarked on abandoned picnics, discarded disposable barbecues littering the sand, and even discovering drug-related items, reported the Express. ‌ Graham Matthews, plastic waste specialist at says: "Litter on the UK's beaches turns our natural beauty spots into an eyesore and poses a huge environmental threat to marine life. Tomorrow, 15 branches are expected to permanently cease trading, in what is a massive blow for its customers and for UK high streets. The closures come as Polish owner Pepco Group sold Poundland to a US investment firm Gordon Brothers for £1 after a downturn in trading. Major restructuring plans have followed which include the closure of a whopping 68 stores by mid-October. Advertisement Among the stores closing tomorrow are branches in Sunderland, Poole, and Falmouth. Other sites across Newcastle, Coventry and Canterbury will also cease trading later this month. These closures follow the shuttering of ten stores earlier this month. Darren MacDonald, retail director at Poundland, said: "While our anticipated network of around 650-700 stores remains sizeable, it is of course, sincerely regrettable that we're closing a number of stores to allow us to get us back on track. This came after the company was sold to the firm that month as part of a deal that included major restructuring and an £80million cash injection. Plans include the shuttering of a total of 68 sites, as well as the closure of its frozen and digital distribution centre in Darton, South Yorkshire, later this year. Poundland will also stop selling products online and focus on expanding its womenswear and seasonal ranges. These changes, except for the 49 store closures, are still subject to High Court approval later this month. Poundland was put up for auction in March by its previous owner, Pepco, after the brand experienced weak sales. The Polish company reported a 6.5% decline in Poundland's revenue, dropping to £830million for the six months to March compared to the previous year.
