Armor from Alec Baldwin's Rust shooting scandal gets early jail release
's Rust shooting scandal has seen a major update as the armorer implicated in the case has been released from jail.
In October 2021, while filming the Western movie Rust in New Mexico, Baldwin was holding a prop revolver that went off and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Baldwin, who denied pulling the trigger, faced a charge of involuntary manslaughter but this was ultimately dismissed by the judge.

However the armorer on the set, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to the maximum 18 months in prison which begun last March.
Now, 14 months into her time behind bars, she has been released early for good behavior after she completed a drug program in custody, sources told TMZ.
Although she is no longer in jail, she will reportedly be on parole for a year in Bullhead, Arizona and is barred from owning weapons.
Additionally, she is required to undergo a mental health review and comply with all of the recommendations made following the assessment.
Gutierrez-Reed is also not allowed to contact any of Hutchins' family.
The armorer was convicted of involuntary manslaughter after a jury determined that she was reckless in her on-set handling of the ammunition.
The gun that Baldwin fired was supposed to be loaded with blanks rather than the real bullets that were fatally fired.
Rust had its world premiere at a film festival in Poland last September before opening in the United States earlier this month to a polarized critical response.
Meanwhile, this January, Baldwin filed a civil lawsuit, accusing several people in the Santa Fe, New Mexico District Attorney's office of malicious prosecution and civil rights violations after he was charged over the shooting.
Baldwin claimed he pulled back the hammer of the revolver, not the trigger, but the gun fired anyway.
Director Joel Souza was also injured in the incident.
In the court filing, Baldwin and his legal team accused prosecutors of trying to 'scapegoat Baldwin for the acts and omissions of others, regardless of the evidence or the law,' according to the Associate Press.
Baldwin's legal team also accused prosecutors and investigators of targeting the star for professional or political gain.
The actor is seeking unspecified punitive damages, compensatory damages, attorneys' fees, and interest.
The case against Baldwin was dismissed in 2024 after it was discovered the prosecution had withheld evidence in the case, and did not share information about or access to live ammunition brought in by a retired police officer who said it could be related to the killing.
The ammunition was filed under a separate case number and Baldwin's legal team was not notified.

BOSTON, June 12 (Reuters) - A Russian-born founder of a cryptocurrency financial services firm avoided having to spend any further time in a U.S. prison on Thursday for participating in a wide-ranging scheme to manipulate the market for digital tokens on behalf of his company's clients. Federal prosecutors in Boston had argued that Aleksei Andriunin, the founder and CEO of cryptocurrency "market maker" Gotbit, deserved a 15-month prison sentence after he pleaded guilty in March to charges that he conspired to commit market manipulation and engaged in wire fraud. Instead, U.S. District Judge Angel Kelley sentenced him to just eight months in prison, which he was deemed to have already served based on the time he spent in jail following his arrest in October in Portugal, prosecutors said. Portugal extradited him in February. He now faces deportation. His company Gotbit was meanwhile ordered to forfeit $23 million worth of cryptocurrency as part of a separate plea deal. "We're incredibly gratified by the sentence, and he's looking forward to getting home to his wife and family," Roger Burlingame, his lawyer at Dechert, said. Andriunin and Gotbit were among 15 people and three firms charged last year following a novel investigation dubbed "Operation Token Mirrors," in which the FBI for the first time directed the creation of its own digital token to help catch fraudsters in the crypto market. Before the charges were filed, Gotbit was a premier "market maker" in the cryptocurrency industry, making tens of millions of dollars in annual revenue and employing over 200 people, prosecutors said. Prosecutors said that from 2018 to 2024, Gotbit engaged in "wash trading," a form of sham trading, and market manipulation on behalf of several cryptocurrency clients to help artificially inflate trading volume for their tokens. Prosecutors cited a 2019 interview published online in which Andriunin described developing a code to wash trade cryptocurrencies to artificially inflate trading volume so they could become listed on larger cryptocurrency exchanges.
