Cardiff City are set to add Rochdale head of football science and performance Kevin Gibbins to their first-team coaching staff.
Brian Barry-Murphy has been in the job a fortnight and brought with him Lee Riley, an assistant coach with whom he worked in Manchester City's academy setup. However, there are still voids to be filled on the Irishman's staff, given he had almost a blank canvas after the coaching upheaval last season following the sackings of both Erol Bulut and Omer Riza.

And the news of Gibbins' impending appointment comes just three days after Cardiff's head of performance, Jonny Northeast, announced he was leaving the club to pursue an opportunity elsewhere.

Northeast joined the club in December 2022 following a stint in Turkey with Besiktas. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community
Eagle-eyed supporters will have spotted academy strength and conditioning coach Arron Garrett having stepped in last week to aid Barry-Murphy during the transitional week. Gibbins, however, will now join the Bluebirds' first-team staff.
Gibbins ends his long association with Rochdale, a club Barry-Murphy of course knows so well, having played there and managed there before moving to Man City.

Gibbins himself was a player at The Dale, a midfielder who retired in 2006.
After that, the 39-year-old moved into sports science and performance. He took up a role with Rochdale's academy as an analyst in 2013 before becoming head of football science in 2014.
In 2018, Gibbins left Rochdale for a season with Wigan as first-team fitness and conditioning coach, before returning to Rochdale in June 2019.

He worked alongside Barry-Murphy, who was head coach at The Dale between 2019 and 2021, at Spotland Stadium and has been there since.
Elsewhere Gavin Ward will stay on as the club's goalkeeper coach. Ward, a former Bluebirds goalkeeper, is the last remaining member of Riza's staff.
Ward's contract was due up this week but it now looks as though a new deal has been thrashed out and he will stay on under Barry-Murphy, despite reports of interest in his services from Championship club Millwall. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community

Cardiff fear for 'pretty serious' Tanner injury

Cardiff City fear that winger Ollie Tanner could be facing a long spell on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury in their 1-0 win at Wimbledon on Tuesday 23-year-old, who has only recently signed a new four-year contract, collided with an advertising board just before half-time and had to be carried off ."It was an ankle injury, it didn't look a good incident and it's not an insignificant injury, it looks pretty serious," said Cardiff manager Brian Barry-Murphy."We'll scan it tomorrow [Wednesday] and reassess from there, but he's on crutches at the moment and will be going to hospital."Tanner was hurt trying to prevent the ball going out for a goal kick."In this moment he'll regret going for the ball but that's the natural instincts of a player of his qualities to go for the ball and never give up on it," Barry-Murphy added."There's no point looking back, from this moment onwards we'll look forward to help Ollie in every way we can, and make sure he has a speedy recovery to get back as soon as possible."Cardiff's win, which continued their unbeaten start under new boss Barry-Murphy, came late courtesy of Isaak Davies' 92nd-minute winner and kept Cardiff second in League One as they chase an immediate return to the Championship.

Louis Munteanu bid blows Celtic out the water as Brendan Rodgers reveals reason for two transfer blocks

The Hoops are desperate to get attacking reinforcements in before the September 1 deadline Celtic's hopes of landing Louis Munteanu have suffered another setback - with the CFR Cluj star said to be on the brink of a move to La Liga. ‌ The Romania striker is said to be on Brendan Rodgers' radar, with the Hoops reportedly seeing a £6.9million bid thrown out earlier this summer. ‌ Munteanu is also wanted by Ligue 1 side Rennes, who are on the hunt for a forward after selling Arnaud Kalimuendo to Nottingham Forest. ‌ And now Fanatik now claim Valencia in Spain have launched a bid to bring the player to the Mestalla. They report that a loan offer worth £.17million has been submitted, with the Munteau then joining the La Liga club permanently next summer for £8.6million. As well as Munteanu, Celtic have been linked with Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy, who is a free agent after ending his memorable spell with the Tigers at the end of last season. Rodgers previously worked with the ex England international during his tenure at the King Power Stadium but has refused to comment on Celts' interest in the 38-year-old. The Irishman has however confirmed that loan rules have held up the Parkhead exits of duo Stephen Welsh and Marco Tilio. Defender Welsh is a target for Plymouth Argyle while Rapid Vienna are keen on Aussie Tilio. ‌ Rodgers said: "What makes it difficult is that there's selling a player and loaning a player. "And obviously we only have a certain amount of loans. ‌ 'So there's six loans internationally that the boys can go out. So then you then have to look at it. Who is to go out? And sometimes clubs will offer to buy a player and they'll offer to loan a player. "So we have to make sure that it is the right loan. "And the two boys that you mentioned have been great and they've had opportunities to move on and I hope for them that they get the chance to do that. "But there's a little bit more behind the scenes that needs to happen for that to take place.'
