Drunk driving suspected in Brooklyn Park crash that killed passenger
Alcohol may have played a role in a fatal crash in Brooklyn Park this past weekend.
The Minnesota State Patrol says the crash happened just before 7:30 a.m. Saturday on Highway 252 at Humboldt Avenue, with the driver of a Chevy Impala traveling northbound when he crashed into a semaphore at the intersection.
A passenger in the car, identified as 36-year-old Carlos Chavez Holliday, of Minneapolis, died at the scene.
The 33-year-old Minneapolis man driving the car was taken to North Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Mike Lee tells Bring Me The News the man will be transferred to the Hennepin County Jail for pending DWI charges. He remains in the hospital as of Monday and the crash remains under investigation.
Bystanders pulled both men from the burning car before first responders arrived, according to the Brooklyn Park Police Department.

Former officer in DWI scheme relinquishes certification
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – On Thursday, a former Albuquerque Police Officer at the center of the DWI corruption scheme was officially stripped of his certification. KRQE Investigates sat in on the meeting with the Law Enforcement Certification Board. Former APD Officer Joshua Montaño was one of the first officers to admit his own guilt in federal court back in February to RICO conspiracy, bribery, and conspiracy to commit Thursday, Monaño agreed to relinquish his right to hold the title of officer in New officer in DWI scheme relinquishes certification Will DWI corruption criminals have to pay victims? 'We're not done yet': FBI discusses future of DWI scandal as another APD officer takes a plea Take a look at the plea deals in New Mexico's DWI scandal The LECB formally accepted a proposed settlement with Montaño. They voted unanimously to accept Montaño relinquishing his law enforcement certification, rather than revoking it. The LECB went into a closed session for three hours during the meeting to discuss officer discipline matters, including Montaño's. Neither KRQE nor members of the public could hear that part of the meeting. When the board members returned to the open meeting, it was a short vote with neither Montaño nor his attorney there for the formality. Montaño started working for the City of Albuquerque as a Police Service Aide in 2005 before becoming a sworn officer in 2007. He worked in APD's DWI unit from 2015 through 2024. The former officer was also highlighted in a case KRQE Investigates reported on last year, where Montaño was shown using a DWI suspect's bracelet to connect the driver with a defense attorney's office — who then offered a guaranteed case dismissal for a price. Montaño is the first officer connected to the scheme to be officially stripped of his certification. So far, there are seven law enforcement officers who've taken plea deals in federal court for their roles in the DWI corruption scheme. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Burglars break into Minnesota bar closed since May fire, steal and cause damage
Burglars break into Minnesota bar closed since May fire, steal and cause damage originally appeared on Bring Me The News. A sports bar that has been closed since a fire in May was burglarized last weekend. Neisen's Riverside Sports Bar in St. Peter, closed since a fire on May 19, was broken into sometime between 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Authorities believe an unknown number of people pried open a door and "removed copper pipes from the bathroom and utility room areas and copper wiring from the electrical panels and other areas." The crooks also caused "extensive damage to an empty ATM," according to the Le Sueur County Sheriff's Office. "They cut all of our water lines off to get to the copper piping," a post on the sports bar's Facebook page reads. "They also ended up destroying our cash machine into multiple pieces. Along with all of our control panels." Anyone with information about the break-in is asked to call the sheriff's office at 507-357-4440. Minneapolis raid sparks protests: Woman charged with assaulting officers says she was assaulted too
Minneapolis raid sparks protests: Woman charged with assaulting officers says she was assaulted too originally appeared on Bring Me The News. Protesters have demonstrated in cities across Minnesota following the arrest of a 27-year-old St. Paul woman during a narcotics raid in south Minneapolis. Isabel Lopez made her first court appearance on Tuesday, facing four charges for physically assaulting federal agents and officers. She was arrested as search warrants related to narcotics, money laundering, and human trafficking were being carried out in south Minneapolis on June 3. As the raid of Las Cuatro Milpas was carried out, protestors gathered under the assumption that an ICE deportation operation was underway. Instead, the criminal complaint charging Lopez reveals that the raid was one of eight carried out in the metro related to the drugs, money laundering and human trafficking. The operation yielded the seizure of 900 pounds of methamphetamine with a street value of $22-$25 million at a storage unit in Burnsville. Since Lopez's arrest, additional footage from the protest was released by independent journalist Georgia Fort, and it shows Lopez being held down and pushed to the ground by law enforcement. In a post on her Instagram account, Lopez says she was pinned down by an FBI officer, and was yanked off a trash bin and slammed to the ground. In the post, she also shares pictures of bruises on the back of her legs. Lopez is accused of punching, kicking and shoving officers and agents during the protest. While she was being arrested, Lopez kicked an FBI agent and also threw a softball at a Hennepin County sheriff's deputy, according to the charges. On Wednesday, demonstrators gathered outside the Sherburne County Jail in Elk River — where Lopez is being held — calling her a longtime artist and activist. At the same time, people rallied in Minneapolis, protesting ICE raids happening across the country. Lopez was scheduled to appear in court in St. Paul, where protestors again gathered, on Thursday morning. She reportedly pleaded not guilty to the four charges and was released from custody with conditions. This story was originally reported by Bring Me The News on Jun 12, 2025, where it first appeared.
