Certain destinations across Europe are constantly busy, like Zante Paris and Majorca.
Which? analysed European Commission (EC) tourism numbers from the most recent data and found where holidaymakers might avoid due to overcrowding and where to go instead.
The research found that the island of Zante is most affected by overtourism.
Around 40,000 people live there, but the island had a whopping six million overnight stays in 2023.
Along the south coast of Zante was 150 overnight stays for every person who lives there.
Another incredibly popular holiday destination is Istria in Croatia.
It's often described as the country's 'best-kept secret' - but in fact Istria was only second to Zante when it comes to being overcrowded.
It has 133 overnight tourist stays for each resident.
Meanwhile, Majorca is the most visited place in Europe by holidaymakers. It had over 51 million stays in 2023 which is massive considering the population is 966,000.
Paris has a population 2.1 million and in 2023 had around 44 million overnight stays.
This French hotel has a 'Bali' style water park and petting farm
For anyone who would rather avoid tourists altogether Which? discovered the least visited destinations.
At the very bottom of the list of overcrowded European cities was Teleorman in Romania.
The county is on the border with Bulgaria and the capital city is Alexandria.
You can explore historical sites like the Teleorman County Museum, St. Alexander Cathedral, and the Church of the Holy Apostles.
There's also outdoor activities at Parc Pădurea Vedea and relax by the Teleorman River.
Teleorman recorded just 20 overnight stays per 1,000 residents in 2023.

Other destinations that aren't holiday hotspots, yet, are Rybnicki in Poland, Targovishte, Bulgaria, and Soignies, a municipality in Belgium.
For a quiet seaside holiday, Which? suggests heading to Haapsalu in Estonia.
The seaside resort has around 120 overnight stays by tourists per square km.
Visitors can explore Haapsalu Castle and stroll the scenic promenade.
For anyone still wanting to explore Italy but doesn't want to see the busy cities of Rome and Milan, the city of Benevento is one of the quietest.
You can still see historic monuments like the Roman Theatre, Arch of Trajan and enjoy authentic Italian food.

Why tourists are picking north Africa over traditional holiday hotspots

British tourists are increasingly choosing north Africa for holidays due to the availability of cheaper, high-quality hotels compared to traditional European hotspots like Spain, France, and Italy. Aviation analysts report a significant increase in flights from UK airports to north Africa, with 19,847 flights projected for this year, more than double the 8,653 flights recorded in 2019. Travel company Tui reports a 30 per cent increase in summer bookings to Egypt compared to 2024, with double-digit growth for Tunisia and strong demand for Morocco, citing better value for money. recorded a 68 per cent increase in searches for summer breaks in Tunisia, with Egypt and Morocco seeing rises of 64 per cent and 39 per cent respectively. The five quiet, beautiful European islands that have avoided overtourism

Plenty of Europe's islands, be them famous Spanish party spots or lovely Italian islets, tend to get pretty crowded during the high season – but there's a handful across the continent that have managed to avoid overcrowding. Holiday booking platform BookRetreats has analysed data from the European Commission on overnight stays in tourist accommodation per square kilometre, and produced a list of the least crowded islands in Europe. Included in that list is Svalbard in Norway, which has a tourism density of just 2.4 per kilometre squared, making it the quietest European island by far. We reported recently that the country has just implemented a brand-new tourist tax, and the report cites Norway's strict regulations as one reason why Svalbard is so untouched: two-thirds of the archipelago is protected by nature reserves and national parks. Despite being Greece 's fifth-largest island and around the same size as Lanzarote, Chios has a tourism density of just 353.81 per square kilometre, and around 21,000 fewer overnight stays than its Canary Island counterpart. Why? Well, its economy relies not on tourism like plenty of Greece's other islands, but on local industry like the unique mastic (a natural resin) trade, and when travellers do pay the island a visit, it's to stay in guesthouses and little villages as opposed to mega-resorts. Revealed: The world's best destination for solo travellers has incredible historic landmarks and beautiful hiking trails

Solo travel is becoming increasingly popular with more and more travellers eager to explore the world alone. A new study has now revealed the best country in the world for solo travel taking into account safety, affordability of eating out and the ease of getting a flight from the UK. And top of the list is Italy which picks up a high score in each of the categories. From Rome's incredible historic landmarks to Bologna's world-famous tagliatelle bolognaise or the Dolomites' hiking trails, solo travellers will be spoilt for choice in Italy. Currently Rimini, an underrated seaside town, is the cheapest Italian destination to fly to in July. Both British Airways and easyJet recently launched direct flights to the beach hotspot. Next on the list is Japan, renowned as one of the world's safest countries. Solo travellers can explore the bright lights of Tokyo or head to Okinawa for beaches. Norway rounds off the top three. While its capital Oslo is one of the most expensive destinations for a city break, the country has some of Europe's most spectacular natural landscapes. Home to Europe's longest coastline, Norway has breathtaking beaches and offers tourists the chance to see the Northern Lights. From Rome's incredible historic landmarks to Bologna's world-famous tagliatelle bolognaise or the Dolomites' hiking trails, solo travellers will be spoilt for choice in Italy Spain takes fourth place on the list. Although its Costa del Sol beaches are particularly popular with Brits, there are many lesser-known spots to discover. Solo travellers could visit San Sebastian, known as Spain's gastronomic capital, or visit Granada's incredible Alhambra palace. Albania is ranked as the fifth best destination for solo travellers. An up-and-coming European holiday hotspot, the country is one of the more affordable destinations on the list. Sam Bruce, co-founder of Much Better Adventures, the company that commissioned the research, says: 'There are so many wild corners of the world still to explore, which is as exciting as it is overwhelming. 'That can make it tough to decide where to go next, especially if you're travelling solo. There's so much travel inspiration online, it can be hard to know what's right for you. 'Some of the most rewarding experiences come when you go beyond the beaches and the city breaks and into the wild places that most guides overlook. Getting away from the crowds doesn't just mean you have a more enjoyable experience, you're also helping to distribute the wealth of tourism to areas where it can have a positive impact and you'll learn a lot more about the places you see.' Portugal just misses out on a spot in the top five. The country is often described as the most affordable destination in western Europe and offers beaches and world-class hiking. Hikers might want to head to Nepal, which ranks sixth on the list. Home to Mount Everest, the country also has more accessible hiking suitable for walkers of all levels. Sam adds: 'Italy, Norway and Albania are home to a great range of activities and culture-rich towns where you can get lost in experiencing new and wild things with welcoming locals. 'But don't let the distance of Japan or Nepal put you off experiencing these captivating countries solo. Both are unforgettable destinations.' Montenegro, Jordan and Greece round off the top 10 list while Peru, Canada and Guatemala land just outside.
