'FIA officials sacked over misconduct'
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhary informed the National Assembly on Thursday that 51 officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had been dismissed over the past two years for various types of misconduct.
Speaking during the question hour, the minister said the FIA has an effective internal accountability system to take disciplinary action against its personnel involved in wrongdoing.
He expressed satisfaction with the performance of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Authority (NCCIA), particularly in addressing cybercrime across the country.
He told the House that a Director General had been appointed to lead the NCCIA and that about 500 personnel were currently working in the authority. A proposal has also been submitted to hire additional staff to enhance its capacity.
Crackdown
The Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) Counter-Terrorism Wing in Islamabad has intensified its crackdown on an international gang involved in issuing fake Pakistani CNICs, machine-readable passports and Saudi Arabia work visas to Afghan nationals and other foreigners.
Acting on intelligence reports, the Agency has arrested three more suspects linked to the network, bringing the total number of arrests to five.
According to officials, the latest arrestsmade during raids conducted in the last 24 hoursinclude Muhammad Alam Zeb, Asif Khan and Haroon Rashid.
Investigations have revealed that Zeb facilitated Saudi work visas for 31 Afghan nationals using Pakistani passports. Asif Khan reportedly arranged similar visas for four Afghan citizens, while Haroon Rashid enabled the issuance of Saudi visas for 58 Afghans.
On Tuesday, two other suspectsMuhammad Ishaq Khan and Syed Ahsan Shahwere arrested. Shah is accused of helping 580 Afghan nationals secure Saudi work visas with forged Pakistani documentation, while Ishaq Khan allegedly assisted 22 individuals.
Together, the five suspects are believed to have facilitated a total of 693 Afghan nationals in obtaining Saudi work visas using fraudulent Pakistani CNICs and passports.
Authorities noted that the involvement of officials from the Immigration and Passport Office and the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) in the scam will be determined during investigation.
Further raids are being carried out to apprehend other members of the network.

Deputy Health Minister Abdullah Asiri told AFP that officials were preparing for the "worst-case scenario." 'The focus is on heat-related illnesses because the Hajj coincides with extreme temperatures,' he said. In anticipation of potential health emergencies, the ministry has mobilised 50,000 medical and administrative personnel and allocated over 700 hospital beds equipped with ventilators for critical cases. Hajj is one of Islam's five pillars and is a religious obligation for all Muslims who are physically and financially capable. The pilgrimage this year coincides with Eid al-Adha, which will be observed on 6 June. 135,000 Pakistanis sought asylum in Europe, US in two years
Listen to article As many as 135,000 Pakistanis have applied for political asylum in Europe and the United States over the past two years, a Senate committee was informed on Tuesday. The figure includes 125,000 asylum applications in different European countries and more than 10,000 in the US. The startling revelations were shared by the director general of Passports during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis which was chaired by Senator Zeeshan Khanzada. The DG informed lawmakers that more than 52,000 Pakistanis have been deported over the past two years. Iran alone deported 34,000 Pakistani nationals attempting to enter the country illegally, while Saudi Arabia deported 5,000 Pakistani citizens involved in begging. Saudi Arabia has also reduced its work visa quota for Pakistanis and tightened the criteria for visa issuance. Meanwhile, several countries, including the UAE, Italy, the UK, and other European nations, have suspended student visa programs for Pakistani applicants. Officials from the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis confirmed these developments, adding that some countries are bypassing legal proceedings by repatriating Pakistanis immediately under provisions of the Passport Act, rather than jailing them. The DG also disclosed that the passports of deported Pakistanis have been blocked, and those found involved in criminal activities abroad are facing strict legal consequences. Despite these setbacks, the officials said that over 10.3 million skilled and professional Pakistanis continue to work overseas, contributing to the country's economy through remittances.

PM Shehbaz vows to resolve all issues concerning KP
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday assured to address all issues concerning Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Addressing a Jirga in Peshawar, he announced to form a committee to look into all the demands and issues raised by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, according to a statement from Prime Minister's office. The Honourable Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, along with Federal Ministers of Defence, Interior, Information and Federal Minister for Kashmir & GB Affairs, visited Peshawar today. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI(M), Chief of Army Staff (COAS) was also with PM on the visit to Peshawar. On arrival, CM & Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhawa welcomed the Prime Minister. During the visit, Prime Minister addressed a Grand Jirga attended by eminent tribal elders from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Governor and Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were also present at the occasion.
