Dubai's Meydan Free Zone has launched a new initiative called Fawri, a fully digital platform that enables entrepreneurs to receive a complete business licence in just 60 minutes. Aimed at solo founders and small enterprises, the service offers a simplified, all-in-one process that includes a business licence, certificate of formation, and lease agreement.
Priced at Dh15,000 (approximately $4,100), Fawri covers up to three activity groups per licence and includes one free amendment within the first year. The platform supports over 1,800 business activities across sectors like e-commerce, education, consulting, trading, and fintech.
In addition to speedy setup, the package allows for 100% foreign ownership, no paid-up capital requirements, and full repatriation of profits and capital. Entrepreneurs can also initiate visa applications and corporate bank account openings directly through the platform's integrated digital system.

The Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC), an affiliate of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), has announced the launch of the 47th round of its Start IT incubation program. Additionally, cloud support from Amazon Web Services (AWS) has doubled to USD10,000 , reflecting TIEC's strategy to accelerate cloud readiness and adoption among startups by enabling access to cutting-edge infrastructure and services. This round also introduces the exclusive Start IT Perks platform, offering participants special discounts and benefits from TIEC partners, including InterAct and These partnerships provide startups with access to advanced technical tools and applications that enhance operational efficiency and foster business growth. To address talent acquisition challenges faced by early-stage ventures, the program now includes dedicated recruitment support through collaborations with specialized platforms such as Talents Arena , Sprints , and Techie Matters , enabling startups to build skilled and professional teams. Further, in response to the growing demand for AI-driven innovation, the new package features specialized support in Artificial Intelligence , including training programs and personalized consultancy sessions with experts. Key selection criteria also include economic viability, sustainability potential, scalability, and the ability to attract investment. Projects must be led by dedicated entrepreneurs fully committed to developing their ventures. Applications from teams with non-dedicated undergraduate students or projects incubated concurrently elsewhere will not be considered. Start IT is one of Egypt's leading startup support programs in the ICT sector, delivered quarterly by TIEC. Accepted startups benefit from a 12-month incubation period at TIEC centers across the country. These centers provide fully equipped workspaces, business and technical consulting, software and hardware support, and marketing services. Project evaluation considers several key factors, including product or service uniqueness, market analysis, competitive advantage, prototype maturity, and founding team expertise. The grocery retail segment contributed AED 487 million, with like-for-like sales declining 5% as legacy stores undergo transformation. In Q1 2025, 20 stores were rebranded, with an additional 80 stores on track for completion by June 2025, marking a strategic shift towards modern and community-focused formats. The commercial real estate segment recorded AED 53 million, up 8% year-on-year, underpinned by a 92% occupancy rate across the Group's 70+ Makani-branded community malls. Solid Underlying Profitability While statutory profit for the period declined from AED 69.5 million in Q1 2024 to AED 51.5 million in Q1 2025, the Group performed well on an underlying basis with +41% underlying net profit growth. This was driven by improved operating performance and lower finance costs following the full repayment of debt. Q1 2024 enjoyed the one-off benefit from the disposal of non-core assets, partly offset by costs associated with the merger. Strong Cash Flow and Debt Free Balance Sheet MAIR continued to generate a strong cashflows and ended the quarter with AED 549 million of cash after repayment of all remaining external debt in full. This gives MAIR the ability to continue to invest in its strategic growth initiatives across both the grocery retail and commercial real estate segments.
