Overhead electric wire breakdown paralyses train movement between Mumbai and Bhusawal for 9 hours

Time of India20-07-2025
Nashik: An overhead electric wire broke down between Devlali and Nashik Road railway stations at 2am on Sunday, paralysing train movements between Mumbai and Bhusawal for over nine hours, Central Railway official said.
The incident caused delays to at least three trains, the diversion of four trains via Daund or Vasai, the rescheduling of two trains, and the cancellation of one train.
The chief public relations officer of Central Railway said, "The train services were disrupted at 2am due to the breakdown of the overhead electric (OHE) wire. A team of employees and officials reached the spot, and the restoration work was completed by 11am.
However, this delayed three trains and several other trains had to be diverted."
Officials from Nashik Road said, "The OHE wire broke down after train 10757 Mumbai-Hyderabad Devgiri Express passed through the section between Devlali and Nashik Road railway station at 2am, leading to the paralysis of services on the Mumbai Nashik route 'down' track. Since there is heavy movement of trains towards Mumbai on the 'up' track during the same period, no train was allowed to pass from the 'up' track towards Mumbai until 9.30am.

The Bhusawal division had arranged for catering services including distribution of packaged drinking water, biscuits and snacks for the passengers of Devgiri Express at Nashik and those of Shalimar Express stranded at Lahavit station and Howrah Mail at Manmad railway stations.
Trains, including 10829 LTT Kolkata Shalimar Express, were the first to travel from the up track across the section after all trains heading to Mumbai in the earlier hours had passed.
The train had been halted since 2.30am. This was followed by 12322 Mumbai-Kolkata Howrah Mail and then 12167 LTT Banaras Saket Express, which were allowed to pass through the section.
Meanwhile, the Railways cancelled the Devlali Bhusawal MEMU service. Authorities diverted three trains towards Howrah: 12859 Mumbai-Howrah Gitanjali Express, 20103 Mumbai LTT Azamgad Express, and 22129 LTT Ayodhya Cantonment Tulsi Express via Vasai Road railway station, Surat, Jalgaon, and then towards Bhusawal. The fourth train, 22223 Mumbai-Sainagar Shirdi Vande Bharat Express, was diverted via Kalyan, Lonavla, Pune, and then to Shirdi.
The railways rescheduled the journey of two other trains by approximately four hours without changing their routes.

Five years since formation of Tadigadapa municipality, Kanuru lacks basic amenities

Vijayawada: Basic amenities like CC roads, side drain canals, and bus stops are still a work in progress in the Kanuru locality, even five years after the formation of the Tadigadapa municipality. In December 2020, four major panchayats including Kanuru, Poranki, Tadigadapa, and Yenamalakuduru were merged to form the Tadigadapa grade-1 municipality. The Tadigadapa municipality has an annual budget outlay of approximately Rs 60 crore. The municipality does not receive any special grants from the Centre and the state govt as it lacks an elected council and is ruled by a special officer with the municipal commissioner as its head. The municipality has a population of 2.15 lakh and is witnessing rapid growth with major commercial, educational, and residential units coming up in the region. "Five years have gone by, CC roads, drain canals, and underground drainage system (UDS) are still a distant dream for many residents residing in the Kanuru area. Previously, officials did not even listen to our problems. Now, the newly appointed commissioner and MLA have promised to address our problems in a phased manner," says Srinivas, a resident of the Kanuru area. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Treatment That Might Help You Against Knee Pain Knee pain | search ads Find Now Undo "The road leading to Kanuru from the Vijayawada-Machilipatnam highway is completely worn out with overflowing drains," Srinivas said and added that the reason for such a situation is because no proper road was laid after Kanuru was merged into Tadigadapa municipality. The municipal authorities stated that Kanuru main road falls under the jurisdiction of the roads and buildings (R&B) department and the municipality is not the competent authority to take up road works. "However, the municipality has filled the potholes with dust, thus providing temporary relief," Tadigadapa municipal commissioner Sk Nazeer said. Nazeer told TOI that the municipality identified all the works required to be taken up and would execute them on a priority basis as the municipality does not have adequate funds to take up development works. "Recently, the AP Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) promised to allocate Rs 9 crore funds in a phased manner to the municipality. To utilise the CRDA funds in an effective manner, the municipality identified 26 prominent works for which tenders will be called soon," he added. He said the CRDA collects development charges while issuing permissions from layout and apartment developers and agreed to extend Rs 9 crore for executing development works in the municipality. Meanwhile, another citizen, 50-year-old Rambabu, pointing to the drain on the Shamrock School and PVP Engineering college road, said: "The lack of a protection wall along the drain poses a serious threat to motorists as there is a high possibility of vehicles veering off the road and falling into the drain, as the narrow road cannot accommodate two-way traffic when heavy vehicles enter the road. Rambabu, who daily drops his daughter to the school on his two-wheeler, fears some untoward incident might happen and urged the authorities to close the drain at the earliest. He also demanded the authorities to install speed breakers near the Petrol Bunk towards Enikepadu stretch on the 100-feet road, as at least one minor mishap is reported daily.

CISCE handbook to make schools more inclusive

Kolkata: The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has released a handbook for school administrators and teachers on inclusive education. The handbook, designed as a practical guide to support educators in implementing inclusive education within the diverse classrooms of CISCE-affiliated schools, highlights various challenges and provides suggestions for addressing them. For instance, it suggests that children with visual impairment be seated in the front row to access teaching-learning materials more easily. Classrooms should be kept free of obstacles to avoid accidents, and teachers should read aloud while writing on the chalkboard. Additionally, learning materials should be available in Braille format, and Braille should be incorporated into classroom displays. The seating arrangement should be designed to minimize background noise, and teachers should speak clearly and loudly. For students with speech and language disabilities, it is important to allow them more time to process information and respond to tasks, and to encourage them to build confidence. For intellectual disabilities, the handbook recommends providing adaptive equipment, breaking tasks down into simple, doable steps, and using praise and encouragement instead of punishment. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Key to a Healthier Heart (Most People Ignore) Undo It also emphasizes the importance of sticking to a routine. The handbook suggests interventions for other difficulties, such as learning disabilities and mental behaviour issues. CISCE has highlighted that the move is to recognize and value the unique potential of every child and create learning experiences that cater to their individual needs, following the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This policy emphasizes the creation of inclusive and equitable learning environments for all students, regardless of their diverse abilities and backgrounds. Schools are encouraged to plan at least one training session on inclusive education for general educators each academic quarter. While principals across schools welcome this move, several have highlighted that such changes cannot be implemented suddenly and require time and proper planning. Mousumi Saha, principal of National English School, Calcutta, said: "This is a very good move by the council. All these things are known to us, but now it comes up in a well-organized and specific manner. The handbook is very handy, and now everyone will get to know about it." Julien Day Group of Schools' director (education and development) Terence John said: "We have to equip ourselves to accept these children properly in the normal classroom situation, for which our teachers need to be a little more trained than they are today."

Kar sewa group repairs Anandpur Sahib roads in Punjab after government inaction.

Ropar: A volunteer group in Punjab has taken over road repairs in a historic Sikh pilgrimage town, highlighting growing frustration with govt inaction on crumbling infrastructure. Kar Sewa Qila Anandgarh Sahib, a religious service organisation, has begun repairing the deteriorating Agampur bridge and an adjoining smaller bridge in Anandpur Sahib, using its own funds after repeated pleas to authorities went unanswered. The town, home to the Takht Kesgarh Sahib — one of Sikhism's five temporal thrones — attracts large numbers of pilgrims, especially during the Holla Mohalla festival. Yet its roads have been left in a dangerous state, critics say. In a widely circulated video showing pothole-ridden stretches of the Anandpur Sahib–Mehatpur road, Nangal municipal council spokesperson Paramjit Singh Pamma asked: "What is the role of the govt if NGOs have to build and repair roads?" Kar Sewa sewadar Dharampal Singh said the Agampur bridge, which leads to the pilgrimage site of Naina Devi, had become hazardous. "We've repaired it permanently and are now working on the adjacent Agampur pully," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like UOL's Vision of Home, Redefined Portfolio Magazine Read More Undo The group had earlier funded a ₹2-crore project to repair and widen 12 km of the Anandpur Sahib-Garhshankar road, with 80% of the work already completed. Govt officials have offered delayed assurances. Ropar executive engineer (B&R) S S Bhullar said a proposal worth ₹6.5 crore had been sent to higher authorities for repairs to both bridges. "The damaged piers will also be addressed," he said. Meanwhile, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) executive engineer Sandeep Kumar said the central govt had sanctioned ₹2 crore on July 16 for repairs to the Anandpur Sahib-Mehatpur road, though final approval from Patiala was pending. A proposal to four-lane the Anandpur Sahib-Nangal road has also been submitted. Kumar noted, however, that the Agampur bridge was outside NHAI's jurisdiction. Following the cancellation of the Anandpur Sahib-Mehatpur toll agreement in March 2023, the road fell under the NHAI control. But with official funds still tied up in red tape, it is volunteers — not the state — keeping the town's arteries open.
